Valve’s Steam service is popular, anyone who has a tiny bit of interest in gaming news is aware of that, but the company has revealed today just how popular it really is. Valve has announced that Steam now boasts more than 65 million users around the globe, and that the service has seen a 30 percent increase over the past year alone, that’s 15 million new accounts in one year. It might be possible to tell from looking at Facebook whether a relationship is going to last, researchers say.
And, they add, clues on the social-networking site may reveal whom you’re dating even if you don’t broadcast your relationship status.
In a recent study, Lars Backstrom, a senior engineer at Facebook, and Jon Kleinberg, a computer scientist at Cornell University, started off with this question (PDF): “Given all the connections among a person’s friends, can you recognize his or her romantic partners from the network structure alone?”
To determine the connection and potential romantic links, the researchers created a new measurement they call “dispersion.” They define dispersion as “the extent to which two people’s mutual friends are not themselves well-connected.”
Let’s say you met your significant other in college. All of your mutual friends would likely also be friends with each other, because you were all well connected then. You would have a lower dispersion score.

Two of the flashiest colors among Apple’s new iPhones also have been the least popular, according to a new consumer study.
The gold iPhone 5S and the yellow iPhone 5C made up the smallest number of sales compared with Apple’s other device colors during the past month of sales. That’s according to a study of early buyers polled by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).
New research published by the research firm on Wednesday suggests 43 percent of iPhone 5S buyers went with Apple’s space gray color, with another 30 percent going with silver. It was a tighter mix on the 5C, with 27 percent going with blue, followed by white, green, pink, and finally yellow — which was purchased by just 7 percent of those polled:

Prior to its announcement, it was rumored that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3′s camera will tout optical image stabilization. OIS is a feature which, quite simply, reduces blurring when the camera is being used to take a photo or record a video. Samsung’s new phablet doesn’t come with OIS, unfortunately, though there a number of manufacturers who offer the feature in their flagship smartphones, manufacturers like HTC, LG and Nokia. At some point in time, Samsung is expected to catch up with its rivals, but a new report by Korean publication ET News suggests that might not happen with the Galaxy S5.
Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S5 in January next year, presumably because Galaxy S4 has not met its internal sales projections. The smartphone is said to have an Exynos 6 64-bit processor with a whopping 4GB of RAM, but that’s not confirmed yet. The Galaxy S5 camera will presumably not have optical image stabilization because Samsung’s supply partners are unable to manufacture enough components to meet Samsung’s demand. Samsung sells millions of units of its flagship devices, so suppliers might have a hard time keeping up, if this report is to be believed. The company has previously been rumored to be interested in developing its own camera modules, a step which might become absolutely necessary to take if Samsung wants to bring OIS to its future devices without having to depend on independent suppliers.

Dalek Costume Done Right
Posted in: Today's ChiliOver the years we have seen plenty of Dalek costumes. All different kinds. And while most are great, they are far from complete. Sure, they have the eyestalk, those bumps all over the body, a bumper at the base and the required plunger arm, but they are missing something very important – the actual mutant lifeform on the inside.
Well, this one is complete. Costume Works reader Michelle has made the ultimate Dalek costume for her daughter and she is all about the finer details. It not only has a Dalek body inside, but that body is all gross and shriveled, complete with a door to show it off.
The girl inside is also wearing a red dress. Is that you Clara Oswald? Everyone just send her your candy now and turn your lights off this Halloween. It’s all over. It doesn’t get better than this.
