This is the story of New York’s lost, forgotten, or perhaps just mythical subterranean meat infrastructure.

17,000 Nexus 7 Tablets Donated By Google To Victims Of Hurricane Sandy

17,000 Nexus 7 Tablets Donated By Google To Victims Of Hurricane Sandy

We’ve seen companies contribute to charitable causes in the past, we’ve also seen them help out when tragedy has struck due to natural causes. Take Hurricane Sandy for example, believed to be the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the season last year, as well as the second costliest hurricane in the history of the U.S. To help out the victims, Samsung donated $3 million, Apple contributed $2.5 million and Goal Zero managed to bring $600000 worth of portable power products to bring power to the affectees. An entire year later, in an effort to bolster recovery, Google has donated 17,000 Nexus 7 tablets to libraries, businesses, community and senior centers in the areas affected by Sandy.

Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York said that private donations such as the one made by Google are “critical” in helping the local communities in their ongoing recovery after the superstorm Sandy, adding that they would like to thank the internet search giant for helping them to build back New York better than before. The 17,000 Nexus 7 tablets Google has donated have a retail value of $2.7 million, surely a drop in the ocean for a company of its size. Its a nice gesture though. If you remember, Google also postponed the launch of its Nexus 10 tablet back when Sandy struck.

Rockstar Rewarding Unique Selfies With GTA 5 #EpicPhotobomb Contest

Rockstar announced earlier today Grand Theft Auto V has shipped 29 million copies ever since it was first released last month, which is an extremely impressive amount considering the game has only been out for a little over a month. One feature of the game that surprised many players when they first started playing Grand Theft Auto V was the fact you could take selfies with the cellphones of in-game characters, resulting in many humorous images to be posted online. Rockstar realizes you all really enjoy this feature, and as a result has put together its first Snapmatic Photo Contest. (more…)

NSA keywords become fodder for automated haiku

Now that’s some poetic justice right there.

    (Credit: Screenshot by Amanda Kooser/CNET)

The National Security Agency’s domestic spying efforts have been all over the news for months. Because it can’t listen in to absolutely everybody’s electronic missives, the NSA allegedly uses a database of keywords to trigger surveillance. It just so happens that those words make for some interesting poetry.

The NSA Haiku Generator is a Web site that spits out automated poems in the classic 5-7-5 syllable format. It feeds off NSA keywords and pulls from a Department of Homeland Security keyword list.

I didn’t think I could possibly top my first automated haiku:

ISS S/Key Sneakers strain sardine veggie Phreaking ninja WINGS Phreaking ninja wings? Awesome! After a good laugh, the absurdity of it all starts to set in. I could be triggering NSA surveillance by posting on Facebook about phreaking ninja wings, when all I’m referring to are some hot wings with a sneaky pepper kick to them.

There are some other interesting words that pop up in the generator, including Tie-fighter for all you “Star Wars” fans, and Twister for all you fans of uncomfortable body-distortion games. Another effort nets me this gem:
