Xenex Robot Does Its Rounds At The Hospital

Xenex Robot Does Its Rounds At The HospitalAccording to the Centers for Disease Control, one out of every 20 patients would be on the receiving end of an infection whenever they stay at the hospital. That sounds like a pretty high chance – 5%, to be exact. Well, for a certain hospital over in Fort Worth, the hospital intends to fight this particular issue with an ultraviolet light machine which resembles a droid from the world of science fiction. Over at the Texas Health Resources Southwest Fort Worth, a robot known as Xenex will move around operating rooms on its routine, sending out ultraviolet light in order to kill potentially dangerous microbes.

Kathy Rhodes, the infection prevention co-ordinator, shared, “We put this in the room, close the door and it gives a pulsated ultraviolet light that actually essentially ruptures the bacteria and viruses and kills them on the spot.” The Xenex robot was purchased over a year ago where it came with a $82,000 price tag. The Xenex robot stands at 3 feet in height, where it will raise its round head for approximately two feet as it turns its head 360 degrees while emitting the pulses of UV light, performing what is known as environmental cleaning. Do you think that all hospitals should employ such robots to get the job done?

Diablo 3 PS3 Patch Fixes Up Some Crashes

Diablo 3 PS3 Patch Fixes Up Some CrashesThere is nothing quite like a patch to fix up issues in a game, and hopefully for gamers of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, a patch will be issued soon so that the game-breaking save bug would be fixed and gamers are able to move on with their lives without seeing all of their hard work go down the drain. I guess this is why it always pays to have at least a couple of save game slots in existence. Well, here we are with word that the Diablo 3 PS3 patch has been issued so that it will be able to fix whatever annoying crash issues that had plagued gamers for some time already, although those who are rocking to the Xbox 360 from Microsoft will have to sit it out for the moment and wait a little bit longer.

A post on Battle.net touts that the folks over at Blizzard does not quite yet have an ETA on when the Xbox 360 patch will be madeavailable to the masses. Apart from that, it remains unclear as to whether the Xbox 360 version is currently in the pipeline, or whether it has already been completed but simply needs certification from the folks over at Microsoft. Either way, both patches should carry the same content and fix similar issues, so whatever we see in the PS3 patch notes ought to be an indicator of what is to come.

Nokia Lumia 521 Is Most Used Windows Phone Stateside

Nokia Lumia 521 Is Most Used Windows Phone StatesideMicrosoft as well as Nokia have both been doing their bit to promote the Nokia Lumia 1020, which is all well and good considering how that happens to be their flagship device. Heck, there has even been a special Windows commercial that was made for The Walking Dead TV show, but in terms of popularity, both the Nokia Lumia 520 as well as its sibling in the US, the Nokia Lumia 521, remain as the most widely used devices that run on the Windows Phone mobile operating system platform. The online ad network AdDuplex, which rolls out monthly reports on the Windows Phone devices which hook up to its service, earlier announced this week that the Nokia Lumia 521 happens to be the number one Windows Phone device in the US as it carries a 19.2% market share.

This would mean that the Nokia Lumia 521 has at long last, passed the previous number one device, which is the Verizon exclusive Lumia 822, while the Nokia Lumia 520 takes the position of seventh place on the list. In terms of the worldwide market share, however, the Nokia Lumia 520 continues to hold the lion’s share of the market where Windows Phone handsets are concerned. If you were to jump aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon, just which particular model would you go for?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini La Fleur Edition Is In The Pipeline

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini La Fleur Edition Is In The PipelineWhat do you think of special editions when it comes to hardware such as smartphones and tablets? Recently, we did talk about a Hello Kitty edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 tablet, and this time around, the folks over at Samsung do seem to be interested in working on a La Fleur Edition of its Galaxy S4 Mini. Of course, the La Fleur edition is nothing new at all, as we have already seen similar of such special editions introduced in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, Samsung Galaxy S Duos, and the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2.

SamMobile claims that the S4 Mini La Fleur will be introduced to the masses before the holiday season, where it will arrive first in red. In all probability, it will not be a global launch, which means it ought to hit only select markets. Just like the original Galaxy S4 Mini that you see above in a lovely shade of purple, the La Fleur Edition ought to come in both single SIM and dual SIM versions. In terms of its hardware specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini La Fleur should be similar to the standard model, and it will most probably arrive with a version of Android Jelly Bean in tow that will hopefully be upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat, apart from a 4.3″ Super AMOLED qHD display, a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera, an 8-megapixel shooter at the back with an LED flash, a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and a 1,900 mAh battery.

Underwater Internet may be coming to an ocean near you

Wi-Fi can now be found in Africa’s grasslands, around the glaciers of the North Pole, and in airplanes flying high above the Earth’s surface, but underwater is one place the Internet still can’t go… until now.

Researchers at the University of Buffalo in New York are developing a “deep-sea computing network” that can beam data from submerged sensors in oceans, seas, and lakes to users’ wireless devices in real time.

The goal of creating underwater Internet is to help people get a better gauge of what’s going on in the oceans’ depths. For example, underwater Wi-Fi could help scientists detect tsunamis and send warnings to coastal residents, collect data on water pollution, and monitor offshore oil and natural gas rigs.

“A submerged wireless network will give us an unprecedented ability to collect and analyze data from our oceans in real… [Read more]

Would You Work In This Viewless Bubble Building?

The curvaceous forms of blobitecture may look like they’re malleable, but the swoops that define the modern style of lady Zaha, Future Systems, and ol’ Frank Gehry aren’t flexible at all. That’s not the case with the concept for the “Bubble Building” in Shanghai, an ambitious re-imagining of an existing structure that covers the windows in a series of nylon pockets that appear to breathe based on the amount of activity inside.

    Yahoo Ad Share Slips

Yahoo Ad Share SlipsIt has been over a year since Marissa Mayer became the CEO at Yahoo, but her dynamic leadership has not managed to bring a permanent boost to the company as its revenues and profits still remain down, never mind that Ms. Mayer has not stopped purchasing other start-ups that she figured out would be essential to make sure that Yahoo has a strong future ahead. In fact, during the previous quarter, Yahoo picked up a total of eight start-ups, including Xobni, an e-mail service, and Bignoggins, a programming house that does fantasy sports mobile apps, in addition to rolling out 15 new product updates.

Ms. Mayer claimed that the slew of products unveiled and acquired resulted in a 20 percent increase in Yahoo’s traffic, which actually touched the 800 million monthly user mark in September, which was the first reversal in Yahoo’s traffic decline in a couple of years. The growth, of course, did not take Tumblr into consideration, even though Yahoo picked up the service sometime last May.

Unfortunately, Yahoo, a company that used to be the biggest seller of display ads, has ceded its share of the display advertising market for years. This particular market share is tipped to drop to 7.7% from a 8.6% market share last year, whereas Google and Facebook’s share of the market is said to grow and touch 17.4% and 17%, respectively.
