The Financial times (FT) came up with a report (link: subscription required) that suggested that Amazon was partnering with HTC to build Amazon smartphones which are supposedly the ones using the new Amazon 3D user interface as mentioned in our previous coverage. According to FT, the smartphones have reached an “advanced” stage of development, but they don’t believe that a 2013 launch will happen. (more…)

There is a Nissan R33 Skyline cruising around in England that looks a bit different than most cars. It has an all-over custom heat-reactive paint job that changes from black to orange depending on the temperature across the surface. West Yorkshire body shop Auto Kandy undertook the task of applying the special paint.
Heat-sensitive paint has been applied to automobiles before, but generally as a special effect to create looks like color-changing flames. What’s unusual about this application is that the whole car was done up. It appears black when cool and turns orange as it heats up. On a cold day, taking it for a drive will turn the hood orange from the heat of the engine.

A license to send a warning letter?
(Credit: ClickOrlando Screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET)
Please imagine that your live-in lover goes to get the mail and sees a letter.
She opens the letter and discovers images of your car and a warning. The letter insists that your car has been seen loitering with intent to solicit a prostitute and that you should never, ever, ever do it again.
Who has sent this letter? A concerned citizen? A former jealous lover? No, your local police force.
This is the scheme now illuminating the lives of the people of Sanford, Fla.
As ClickOrlando reports, the police have decided that they will use special license-plate-reading cameras to, as it were, name and supposedly shame so-called johns.
These are the (often) men who drive by slowly and sometimes repeatedly in the attempt to find a pay-for-pleasure arrangement.
Some might imagine that the police’s wheeze has some kinks.

Supercell, the parent company behind hit games like Clash of Clans has announced receiving a $1.5B investment from Softbank (the first wireless carrier in Japan to carry the iPhone) and GungHo, a Japanese known for its online and mobile games. Supercell’s Clash of Clan game alone hit $2.4M a day this year, so it’s not completely clear why they would need “investment” to start with. The official version is that this will make Supercall “more independent and in control of [its] future” as lkka Paananen would put it. (more…)
