Samsung And Apple Rumored To Be Working On 12 Inch Tablets

Samsung And Apple Rumored To Be Working On 12 Inch Tablets

A report coming out of Taiwan claims that both Apple and Samsung are working on large tablets, with displays as large as 12 inches. Apple has already been rumored to be working on a 12 inch iPad, it has apparently teamed up with Quanta Computer on this project. Today’s report mentions Quanta once again, reiterating that it is collaborating on the 12 inch iPad with Apple. On the other hand, Samsung is said to be developing its 12 inch tablet in house.

This latest report comes from the infamous Taiwanese trade publication Digitimes, which has a hit or miss track record when it comes to future product rumors. Citing “upstream supply chain sources,” the publication claims that apart from working on the 12 inch tablet, Quanta has also become a supplier for the much rumored iWatch. Samsung reportedly wanted to team up with Google for its large tablet, and possibly rekindle the partnership that brought us the Nexus 10, but apparently Google is focusing on “7-inch products” right now. The report doesn’t mention when we can see these new 12 inch tablets from Apple and Samsung. Apple is already rumored to make iPad related announcements on October 22nd, though it is highly unlikely that the company will say anything about a 12 inch tablet, this month’s event is expected to bring us the iPad 5 and possibly the Retina display touting iPad mini.

Hands-free gesture control is no longer a novelty in the mobile space, but the required processing power limits what’s currently possible. Ostrich Pillow Light only slightly less weird than original

Well, it is more subtle than the first one.

    (Credit: Kawamura-Ganjavian)

With the original Ostrich Pillow, design, fashion, and functionality collided in a tangled mess we couldn’t take our eyes off. Truly, the head-engulfing travel sleep pillow caused a rift in the universe. Some people thought it was brilliant. Some people thought it looked like your head was being sucked into the body of a voracious octopus.

Nonetheless, the Ostrich Pillow was a raging Kickstarter success. Now, its little cousin, the Ostrich Pillow Light, is raising funds to go into production. It has the same gray looks as the original, but scales down the overall effect into something more akin to a small stack of tires.

A $45 pledge gets you in line for the Ostrich Pillow Light. This is aimed at people who want less to carry around, but still are comfortable enough with themselves to be seen wearing what looks like an earthworm’s neck around their head. This is more extreme than a sleep mask and earplugs, but also quite a bit cozier.

Donald Trump Says Apple Should Make An iPhone With A Larger Display ‘ASAP’

Donald Trump Says Apple Should Make An iPhone With A Larger Display ASAP

Anybody who has access to a comments section has at least once given their expert opinion how Apple should immediately increase the iPhone’s display size to counter the barrage of Android smartphones that are taking over the market with their large displays. Its easier to advise Apple to make this change, but its obviously not that easy to do, a number of other factors have to be considered as well. The latest person to advise Apple is none other than Donald Trump, who says that the company should make iPhones with larger displays “ASAP.” This isn’t actually the first time Trump voiced concern about the iPhone’s display size.

Trump doled out his free advice through Twitter, telling Apple to go to a larger screen as soon as possible because “they’re losing their standing in the market.” Well, he’s certainly not the only one with this point of view. A number of analysts also believe that an iPhone with a larger display should be released, and there have been rumors that Apple is testing a number of iPhone prototypes with various display sizes, going as high as six inches. Apple is expected to make this change with the iPhone 6, which will be released next year. But will Trump’s tweet initiate a flurry of frantic activity in the corridors of power at Cupertino? I wouldn’t put my money on it, would you?

Netflix Negotiating to Offer Its Streaming Service on Cable Boxes in the US

Like many people out there, I’m a big fan of the video streaming service Netflix. It’s a great place to find something to watch when nothing is on TV and I can use it to catch up on TV series that I might’ve missed seasons of in the past. Back in September, word surfaced that Virgin Media in the UK had agreed to offer Netflix on its set top boxes to subscribers. At the time, I wished Netflix would do the same thing in the US and apparently they’re in negotiations right now to do just that.

Word surfaced that Netflix is currently in talks to make its streaming service available on US cable providers’ set top boxes. Making Netflix available on those boxes would mean that users wouldn’t need to switch inputs or launch an application on different device to watch Netflix streaming video.

Netflix has reportedly been in talks with several pay-TV providers in the US. Reports indicate that these talks are in the early stages but two of the providers said to be in talks with Netflix are Comcast and Suddenlink Communications. One thing delaying the negotiations according to some reports is the fact that Netflix is insisting the cable providers use its technology designed to improve the delivery of streaming video. Netflix believes this to be a critical component of service to allow viewers to get the best quality possible.

While one might think that cable and satellite providers would see Netflix as a major competitor, offering the service through their delivery channels could increase the likelihood that customers will stick around instead of just going for a raw bandwidth provider.

Valve shows the Steam Controller in action

Valve’s vision for the next chapter of PC gaming is to take it to the living room.

The company has a three-fold strategy for this: the SteamOS, the Steam Machine, and the Steam Controller.

Arguably, the latter is the most important — PC gamers tend to prefer a mouse and keyboard combination. While that combo allows for impressive accuracy, especially when playing a first-person shooter (FPS), it’s also pretty unfriendly for a living room situation.
