New iPad Mini Shortages Could Be Attributed To Sharp’s Low Yield Of Displays [Rumor]
Posted in: Today's ChiliApple’s iPad mini with Retina display was announced recently but interestingly enough unlike the iPad Air which was put up for pre-order with a release pegged for the 1st if November, the new iPad mini was not given the same treatment, although it was scheduled for a release later in November. A recent statement made by Tim Cook has also suggested that there might not be enough units to meet the demand, indicating that would-be iPad mini customers would be in for a wait. Now thanks to a report from DigiTimes, it has been suggested that one of the reasons behind the possible delay is due to Sharp’s low yield of the displays for the iPad mini.
Their report claims that currently only two companies are responsible for the iPad mini’s Retina display and they are LG and Sharp, with LG responsible for the bulk of the displays at 60%, while Sharp will account for the remaining 40%. It seems that other manufacturers, such as AU Optronics and Innolux, both of whom have been linked to Apple in the past, have tried to get orders for the new iPad mini but were unsuccessful. These manufacturing problems does not come as a complete surprise as it has been suggested back in April this year that manufacturing problems for the Retina display would cause delays/shortages. We’re not sure just how big of an impact this will have so we guess we will just have to wait and see for ourselves, but hopefully it won’t be too long.

Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise debuted as a mobile game, although the game has since moved onto other platforms, such as for consoles and the PC. Well if you were planning on picking up a next-gen console like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 for yourself, you might be interested to learn that Rovio will be releasing Angry Birds Star Wars (the first installment) for next-gen consoles in November which is also around the time where both consoles will be seeing their initial release. However for current-gen console gamers of the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, PS VIta, Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, the game is available starting from today.
For next-gen consoles, Angry Birds Star Wars will be taking advantage of several of the console’s features. The PlayStation 4 version of the game will rely on the DualShock 4’s touchpad, and will support the Move in single player and local multiplayer modes. As for the Xbox One, the game will feature exclusive timed challenges and will also play nicely with the new Kinect sensor that will be bundled together with the console. We’re not sure if these are the types of titles next-gen console gamers are looking forward to, but we guess it’s still an option for those who want to play a quick game or two.

We know that there is an event planned for the 5th of November in which it is speculated that the Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat will be announced/released. Granted Google and LG have yet to confirm it, the invite really doesn’t leave much to the imagination and according to a post on Reddit, something is going on with a multitude of Google apps. The poster has noticed that to so far, 16 Google apps have been updated and shows the 29th of October as the most recent update, although no changelog was shown and the updates have yet to roll out to the masses. The apps in question are Google Play Services, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Earth, Translate, Chrome, Hangouts (announced but not yet due for release), Goggles, Play Magazines, Keep, Wallet, Blogger, Google+ (which has been rolled out), Analytics, and Fiber.
It is unclear what’s with the sudden update of all these Google apps. While Google did hold a Google+ event recently, that might explain the updates to Hangouts and Google+, but certainly not the rest. Could this have something to do with the upcoming announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat and with the native Google apps being primed and ready to be compatible with the operating system? That’s certainly a possibility, albeit rather speculative, but what do you guys think is going on here?
