Soar Through the Alps With This Interactive Video of a Wingsuit Flight

Taking flight with a wingsuit is probably the scariest thing I can think of doing. And that’s part of the reason why this interactive video of German crazy person Beni Kälin jumping off a Swiss mountaintop is so cool. It feels like you’re flying—except without the risk of dying part.

Folder Guide Gives You Easy Access To Your Favorite Folders

This article was written on September 25, 2006 by CyberNet.

Folder Guide

Folder Guide is a great little freeware application that will let you customize a list of folders to place in your right-click context menu that is displayed in Windows Explorer. If you are constantly navigating around Windows Explorer then I am sure you’ll find this extension useful.

It has a nice configuration editor so that you can easily modify the folders that are available in the context menu as well. The editor pretty much makes it a no-brainer. Here are some of the other features that you will find in Folder Guide:

  • Quick access folders in Open/Save As/Browse dialogs.
  • Quick access folders in Windows Explorer and the desktop and the Star button.
  • Easy to add folder to the list of “Folder Guide”.
  • Easy to edit or reorder folders in the list of “Folder Guide”.
  • Runs automatically as part of the context menu.

Vista Sidebar Folder Guide is essentially a bookmark system for your folders. Microsoft must have seen that they needed to make finding your folders easier because in Windows Vista they have your “Favorite Links” in the sidebar of Windows Explorer. It gives you quick access to your favorite folders which is essentially the whole point of Folder Guide. I think it would be a great idea if the Vista team had made a context menu option as an additional way to access the folders.

Thanks for the tip Radu!

Office 365 Is Coming To The iPad, Scout’s Honor

scout

You’ve been played before. You’re vulnerable and nervous about opening up again. It wouldn’t be the first time you’ve been lied to.

Back in 2011 we heard rumors that the iPad would be graced with Office’s presence in 2012, and shortly thereafter we saw an actual photo of Office on an iPad. But… nothing. And then some more nothing. Until today.

The company is finally letting Office 365 smooch up against the iPad. Steve Ballmer today revealed at a Gartner event in Florida that an iPad-friendly version of Office 365 is in the works. The iPad version will be released after a touch-first user interface is delivered to Windows-powered machines. According to the Verge, that special touch interface is “in progress.”

Microsoft has already let Office partially into the iOS ecosystem with the release of Office Mobile for Office 365 Subscribers (catchy name, huh?). This application is only available to iPhone owners who already have an expensive Office 365 subscription.

The Verge also claims that Microsoft COO Kevin Turner expressed the “need to own the productivity experience across all devices” in a recent company meeting, which makes sense considering Office is one of Microsoft’s best and most competitive products.

Expanding distribution of the software is smart, especially if it coaxes users to pay for the pricey Office 365 subscription in order to access it. Smarter still would be to offer a specially tailored version of Office 365 on iPad and iPhone for a hefty yearly price that isn’t quite as high as the full-on desktop subscription.

In either case, though, Microsoft runs the risk of slowing down its own lagging tablet sales. After all, the only slightly interesting advantage that Surface tablets have is Microsoft’s productivity suite. After Office is rolled out to all iOS devices, that advantage simply shrinks down to the fact that it’s free on a Surface.

Sony Xperia Z1 Review

Sony Xperia Z1 Review

Smartphone cameras have been improving in their ability to capture just the right moment you’re looking for over the past couple of years, with Nokia making the biggest leap in offering a smartphone with a high resolution 41MP camera. The Lumia 1020 certainly impressed us with its ability to offer a great camera experience within a smartphone, although it device may have some competition now that Sony announced its new Xperia Z1 early last month.

The Sony Xperia Z1 is being touted to deliver a “true compact camera performance” through a combination of the smartphone’s G Lens, its CMOS image sensor and the BIONZ for mobile image processing engine. The camera isn’t the only thing Sony beefed up on its Xperia Z1 as the device runs on a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, has 16GB of internal memory, 2GB of RAM and is completely waterproof. With all of that goodness inside of the Xperia Z1, along with its 20.7MP camera, we think the Android smartphone deserves to be given some attention, which is exactly what we’ll be doing in our review of the device.

FiLIP GPS Watch Keeps Kids Safe and Parents in the Know

Every parent on the planet wants their kid to be happy and well-adjusted. That means at some point early in the kid’s life you have to give them the freedom to roam and play. The problem for parents is that giving children the freedom to go places and visit friends by themselves can be very nerve-wracking. This is especially true if you’re the sort that imagines all the horrible things that could possibly happen to a child in the world alone.

To help allay some of these fears, AT&T has announced an exclusive partnership to distribute a new product that will help parents give their kids more freedom called the FiLIP.

The device is a large and colorful smart watch that has a built-in phone and GPS functionality. The watch allows parents to set zones where the kids can roam and if the child goes outside that zone, the watch will remind them that they can’t go. All of this information is available to parents via a remote smartphone app as well. The watch also has a built-in mobile phone that connects to standard cellular networks and holds five personal contacts.

The watch can dial any of those five contacts and those numbers can also call in to talk to the child. One of the best features is the emergency button that a child can press for three seconds to automatically send out a distress message to all five contacts with their GPS location. When the emergency button is pressed, the first contact is automatically called and the watch records all sounds around it. If the first contact doesn’t answer, the other contacts will be dialed.

There’s no word on exactly when you can buy the FiLIP, but you can sign up to be notified about its launch over on their website.

On the other hand, all you need for Handsome Jack is a dapper hairdo and a suit.
