Pentax has focused most of its recent attention on entry-level photographers, but it’s showing some renewed devotion to serious shutterbugs by launching the K-3. The new 24-megapixel DSLR supports a new WiFi-equipped SDHC card, FLU, that gives owners remote control of the camera through any device …

Fox News’ fairly vast, beautifully balanced new tablets

Just look at the size of those things.

Shrill leftish types like to paint Fox News as a fundamentalist organization, there to stuff one shade of news into the gullet of a compliant viewer.

This view is, frankly, unbalanced.

Fox News is a driven, modern business that regularly beats its competitors and scales heights to which, for example, CNN aspires.

As proof of this might I offer its new, gizmo-filled newsroom, called “The Deck.” This isn’t something from “Minority Report.” It’s a technological laboratory for major reporting.

I am grateful to the Verge for having its eyes opened to tablets of a size perhaps never before seen in captivity.

As presented by Fox’s Shepard Smith to an undoubtedly entranced audience, this makes the NSA’s “Star Trek” office look like something from the 1960s. Which, I suppose, it is.

Here we have tablets the size of Piers Morgan’s and Bill O’Reil… [Read more]

Must See HDTV (October 7th – 13th)

As the MLB playoffs continue to ratchet up the intensity, we’ll also keep an eye on all of the new fall shows to see which ones die off first (ABC’s Lucky 7 has the award for first new show cancelled). Could GM’s Tiny Self-Driving Smartcar Actually Revolutionize Cities?

Could GM's Tiny Self-Driving Smartcar Actually Revolutionize Cities?

The city of the future is going to be "crowded, dirty, and resource-constrained," said Stephen J. Girsky, a vice president of GM, at CityLab, an event in Battery Park City earlier today. And that means everyone’s gonna want one of GM’s new Electric Networked Vehicles, or EN-V.

Bing Offers Tested In Seattle

Bing Offers Tested In SeattleIn April this year, Microsoft did reveal Bing Offers, which is a shopping coupon and sales service that enables users to be able to hunt down the best discounts possible from local as well as national retailers. How has that effort gone so far? Well, Microsoft did announce a new pilot program today which will hopefully offer consumers a faster and more efficient method of taking advantage of such special Internet deals. This particular program will be known as Bing Offers Card-Linked, and right now it is being tested in Seattle.

According to Microsoft, users living in Seattle are able to sign up on their Bing Offers site using their Microsoft Account as well as requiring details on their debit or credit card so that they can take part in the program. Valve Unveils Prototype Steam Machine Specifications

Valve Unveils Prototype Steam Machine SpecificationsAt the end of last month, we brought you word that Valve has announced their long awaited Steam Machines, and we are pleased to say that the company has also decided to roll out a detailed dossier on the hardware specifications for the 300-odd prototype Steam Machines that will be sent out to the 300 Steam users. According to the folks over at Valve, these Steam Machines have been described as “something special,” where they also threw in the customary “a high-end, high-performance box, built out of off-the-shelf PC parts” trumpet blowing bit.

The hardware right now happens to arrive in a form factor that is not too different from that of your average console, where it measures at approximately one foot long, and a foot wide. Do bear in mind that not all of the Steam Machine prototypes will be identical in terms of hardware specifications, since Vale is still testing the hardware to make sure that the right combination can be decided on eventually.

We do know that for its GPU, some units will feature the NVIDIA Titan, others the GTX780, with a mix of GTX760 and GTX660 as well. CPU-wise, we have the Intel i7-4770, i5-4570, and i3 while the RAM count stands at 16GB, with a GPU memory of 3GB. There will also be a 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD thrown into the mix. What do you think of such hardware specifications?

Dell Wants You To Upgrade From Windows XP ASAP

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time for Microsoft’s venerable Windows XP operating system already, but this does not mean that folks have taken the step to make an upgrade from that reliable OS to Windows 7 or Windows 8. Perhaps one would need more convincing to make the upgrade jump, and Microsoft has done their bit to make sure that large businesses “get the message” in order to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8 prior to the support deadline of April 8, 2014. It seems as though the folks over at Dell, too, want to do their bit in promoting Windows XP users to make the operating system upgrade through a new ad that you can see above.

This particular clip does seem to be targeting IT managers specifically, especially those who have delayed on their respective companies’ Windows upgrade plans. The animated video touts that workers in the IT department are able to leave the upgrade process to Dell’s Windows Migration Services, where it is touted to help businesses save both time and money – something that the higher management always loves to hear, regardless of how their own Windows XP upgrade plans are at right now.
