What your wardrobe lacks: A necktie with a QR code

The QR Tie comes in styles such as The Charlie, named for Charlie Chaplin.

I must admit that I sometimes sorely miss the bygone age of penny farthings, sleeve garters, and neckties that just hung there making you look professional instead of linking to your OKCupid profile.

Those were good times. Then again, times change, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that you can now get your own QR code subtly printed on your necktie (QR codes have been printed on ties before, but usually on the front where they’re painful to see).

Why would you want a tie printed with a QR code? To promote your personal brand, of course.

Google Glass Lets You Look Up Public Transit Directions Now

Google Glass Lets You Look Up Public Transit Directions NowHaving a pair of Google Glass sitting right there in front of one’s eyes is definitely “cool”, as fashion and technology come together to ensure that life is a whole lot more convenient and easy. In fact, while Google Glass might be highly desirable, the extent of its working capabilities remain largely untapped since there isn’t a mature enough market right now. Well, we are pleased to say that Google Glass has just started to get a whole lot more useful, since you can now wear one in order to look up public transit directions. Nifty, don’t you think so?

This new functionality was announced by Google, where they claim that one is able to access public transit directions through the simple act of saying, “Okay, Glass, get directions to”, and it will get to work right away, opening up the directions “app.” The default setting would be to make use of the directions type which was last used. Take for instance, if you previously made a search for directions by car, it will then offer the new directions to the spoken intended destination with the assumption that you will be driving this time around as well. Right now, Google does have public transit data for cities on almost all continents, with nearly every major European and North American cities falling under such purview.

Sounds like a killer app for those who are always traveling abroad, no?

Sony Xperia Z1 f Should Be Confirmed For Japan

Sony Xperia Z1 f Should Be Confirmed For JapanThere is nothing quite like a confirmation of a particular handset that has been leaked and much talked about for the longest time, and the same applies to the Sony Xperia Z1 f, otherwise also known as the Honami Mini or the Z1 Mini if you prefer) which has just been confirmed that it is about to make its way over to the Land of the Rising Sun. Over the weekend, there were several images of NTT docomo’s upcoming smartphone range, where an image of the handset previously known as the Honami Mini was spotted – although it has been called the Sony Xperia Z1 f now.

What you see above is a photo of the alleged catalogue, and chances are it is legit by all accounts. After all, it would be pretty nuts if someone actually had so much time on their hands to create a fake shot of such a device in the catalogue for Japan’s biggest carrier. So, assuming that the above is the gospel truth, would you want to consider picking up the Sony Z1 f when it finally hits the market? More importantly, what do you think of the name itself? Some folks might prefer the “Mini” suffix at the end to keep in line with general smartphone naming trends.

Photographic shrine to Apple products aims for the ‘Iconic’

Batman’s Tumbler Recycled from Dead PlayStation 2s

So you’ve got a couple of dead old video game consoles lying around. While you could just throw them in the trash, it’s better for you to recycle them. And what better than to turn your old game systems into Batman’s Tumbler?

    batman ps2 tumbler 1 620x501magnify

That’s exactly what recycling artist Daniel Shankalonian did when he got his hands on a couple of deceased PlayStation 2 systems. He completed his build chopping up the bits and pieces of the consoles, mixing in a liberal dose of printer and hard drive parts, and placing the whole assemblage on a broken down old Dell XPS laptop.

While it’s certainly not as elegant of a job as Lucius Fox did with the original Tumbler, you have to give Shankalonian credit for being able to make lemonade out of the lemons he was dealt. And Lucius had the slight advantage of having millions of dollars from the Wayne Foundation to work with too.

Best of all, you can own this recycled PS2/Batmobile. It’s available over on Etsy for $250(USD). It’s a shame you can’t hook up a DualShock and play Arkham Origins on it.
