This week a fellow by the name of Tom Carter will show off a system by the name of UltraHaptics, one that will apparently take away the problems inherent with touchscreen displays requiring users to cover up the objects they touch. This system will be presented at the ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and […]
It has been less than a month since Apple released the iPhone 5s. The new smartphone was initially rolled out to a number of select markets, including Japan, China and obviously the U.S. Reports coming in from China claim that the iPhone 5s bends, similar complaints were heard last time around when the iPhone 5 was released. The problem was faced by a small number of early adopters back then and the devices weren’t actually as bent as the iPhone 5S seen in these pictures. It is not exactly known for sure what is causing some iPhone 5s units to bend, and obviously the possibility exists that these images are fake and fabricated since similar reports haven’t come in from any other markets.

Half-Life is the game that put Valve on the map. The last full game in the franchise was Half-Life 2 way back in October 2007. Ever since that launch, fans have been clamoring for the next installment in the franchise – presumably called Half-Life 3. Recently, a trademark filing surfaced at a European trademark registration site leading to jubilation among fans.
That filing put fans of the franchise in a tizzy thinking a new game was in the works. It turns out that the trademark filing was likely a hoax according to reports floating around the web. The original filing looked legitimate, but it is now nowhere to be found.
There are a couple theories circulating explaining what has happened with one being that Valve is trying to hide the trademark approval now that it’s been given. That does make a lot of sense considering that Valve US has reportedly held the trademark on Half-Life 3 for a while. Another equally plausible theory is that the original filing was simply a hoax. If that’s the case, I like to believe there’s a special place in hell for whoever tricked us.
Regardless of the state of the trademark, there’s a reasonable chance that Valve is working on the game for next-gen consoles – but they’ll only tell us when they’re good and ready,

It’s a myth that’s been around for nearly a century: Most of us are destined to meet our spouses during those magical/fraught years that make up college. But is there any truth to it? Facebook’s crack team of data scientists have mined our collective Facebook data to find out—and some of their results are pretty surprising.
Rollover minutes were a great idea last decade when capped minute plans were all the rage, but unfortunately rollover data never caught on when smartphones began getting popular. PureTalk USA, an AT&T MVNO, doesn’t think it’s too late to implement such a concept for its budget-minded customers who …
Disney has developed a new technology that allows you to generate energy by simply rubbing or touching a piece of paper. This is something the world needs because, you know, everything will require a level of interactivity in the future—even old-fashioned paper books.
Over the last couple of weeks we’ve consistently heard that the market will soon be greeting smartphones with flexible displays. Both LG and Samsung are rumored to bring out their products first. If a latest rumor is to be believed, Samsung might actually beat LG to the market. Chatter coming in from Asia suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Round smartphone with a flexible display might be launched later this week.
The specifications are said to be similar to the Galaxy Note 3. Perhaps that is why there have been many rumors in the past about a Galaxy Note 3 variant with a flexible display. Recently a Samsung device with the model number SM-G910 appeared in benchmark results, this was thought to be the flexible display variant of Note 3. This particular model appeared to have a Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 GPU and a smaller 5.5 inch display as opposed to the Note 3′s 5.7 inch one. Another rumor about the SM-G910 gets reiterated, that this smartphone will be produced in limited quantities. As per the report, Samsung is going to launch the Galaxy Round later this week. If the launch is indeed going to take place as rumored, then there’s a strong possibility that it will first grace Samsung’s home country before making its way to other markets, if its destined to leave Korean shores at all.

If the art is in you, you have to let it out. If you happen to have a bunch of ground beef nearby, then you use what’s handy. The Uwajimaya Asian food market in Seattle has a meat section that’s populated with superhero, gaming, and “Star Wars” characters.
Kieran Gormley is the meat manager at Uwajimaya. He’s also the resident meat artist with a penchant for building figures like R2-D2, Alien, Samus from Metroid, and Sonic the Hedgehog out of ground meat. He shares his beefy creations on his Tumblr, Epic Grinds.

Gormley takes beef fresh from the grinder and begins to form it as it comes out. He then uses a knife and his hands to shape the various pieces and put them together into recognizable forms. Sometimes artfully trimmed pieces of onion are used to add detail.
If you ever wondered what Alien tastes like, the answer would seem to be beef, not chicken. Customers can buy the edible-when-cooked sculptures by the pound for the regular price of ground beef.

Looking for a way to dress up your dining table, but don’t want to go with an ordinary candleholder? These unique candleholders are definitely conversation starters, since you’ll have a hard time figuring out if they’re 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional.
Flatlights look like the 3D wireframe perspective of a candle when viewed from above, but lay completely flat on your table.
Each Flatlight is made from a 0.4mm thick sheet of brass, which is photochemically etched to create the openings. This creates a more durable object than one created on a 3D printer, and also reduces sharp edges compared to laser cutting.
Early buyers can get a single Flatlight for £12(~$19 USD) each or £21(~$32 USD) for a pair. For a few dollars more, they’re also available with black on one side and white on the other, or in a 24K gold-plated finish which looks pretty spiffy.
If you’re interested in getting some Flatlights for your table, head on over to Kickstarter and make your pledge before November 9th.
