Windows Phone And Windows RT To Merge Over Two Years [Rumor]

Windows Phone And Windows RT To Merge Over Two Years [Rumor]

Rumor has it that Microsoft might be planning to merge Windows Phone and Windows RT over the next two years. Such a titanic feat can not be done overnight, that’s for sure. Apparently Microsoft will slowly merge both Windows Phone and Windows RT by releasing three regular GDR or General Distribution Release updates per year, for the next two years. The execution of this move will reportedly be seen by Terry Myerson, who is the newly promoted executive vice president of operating systems at Redmond.

Windows Phone and Windows RT are not the only two things that Microsoft is reportedly merging. Recently we reported that it is possible Microsoft might merge Windows Phone Store and the Windows Store, this move is expected to be completed by spring next year. This decision was reportedly confirmed by Myerson himself at Microsoft’s internal company meeting which took place last month. It is possible that the merger of both stores into one single store might be the starting point for bigger things, such as Windows Phone and Windows RT. Apparently Myerson’s going for this merger in order to boost Microsoft’s mobile presence in the market. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will end up with different UIs for different screen sizes, if it decides to merge the user interface of Windows Phone and Windows RT. Microsoft has not commented on this rumor as yet.

EVO 4G LTE Android 4.3 Update Launches Before Year’s End

EVO 4G LTE Android 4.3 Update Launches Before Years End

HTC has confirmed that the Android 4.3 update for EVO 4G LTE will be launched in the U.S. by the end of this year. The confirmation comes from HTC America’s president Jason Mackenzie, who tweeted that the device will receive the Android 4.3 and HTC Sense 5.0 update by the end of this year. However, Mackenzie has not provided a concrete release date, he has only provided a timeframe for us to work with. There’s the possibility that the update might take longer to release, given that the carrier would first want to run its own tests before rolling it out to its customers.

The company is already under the process of rolling out Android 4.3 update for HTC One in the U.S. Sprint is one of the first carriers to roll out the update to its subscribers. Mackenzie has already said that other carriers will be launching the update soon too, though it might take slightly longer than originally anticipated. It can be speculated that the reason behind the delay could be carriers running various tests. Mackenzie has used Twitter frequently to keep HTC customers up to date with the company’s firmware update release schedules, its a good practice, certainly eliminates having to wonder if a particular update is going to be rolled out for a device at all.

PS4 DualShock 4 Controller Compatible With Windows For ‘Basic Functions’

PS4 DualShock 4 Controller Compatible With Windows For Basic Functions

Sony’s DualShock 4 controller, which will launch alongside the PlayStation 4, is going to be compatible with Windows without a driver for “basic functions.” This was confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida, who is the president of worldwide studios at Sony Computer Entertainment. He made the confirmation via a tweet, as a reply to a question asking him if Sony would release a driver to make DualShock 4 compatible with Windows. Yoshida replied that “the analog sticks and buttons will work just fine,” and followed up by saying that the controller will have compatibility “for basic functions” out of the box.

Yoshida didn’t elaborate exactly what he means by basic functions. There’s something else that needs to be elaborated as well. It a well known fact that many non-Microsoft controllers register as Xbox controllers with Windows due to the Xinput API, it is not known for sure right now if the DualShock 4 will or will not register as DS4 with Windows. in a response to a similar question, Yoshida replied that :wait for field report after the launch.” Hopefully this will be clarified once Sony launches the PlayStation 4. Sony’s next generation console is all set to be launched, it will start reaching customers who’ve already placed their pre-orders next month.

Android 4.3.1 For LTE Nexus 7 2013 Released

Android 4.3.1 For LTE Nexus 7 2013 Released

Out of the blue and without any fanfare, Google rolled out Android 4.3.1 for LTE Nexus 7 2013. It is an incremental update, but Google hasn’t described at length exactly what changes this update, Android 4.3.1, (JLS36I) brings. As of now, the update has only been rolled out for the LTE Nexus 7 2013, and not for any other Nexus device. Since no new major features have been added, the update weighs in at just 9.42MB and is available for download right now on the compatible tablet, over the air.

The changelog of Android 4.3.1 indicates that the update brings performance and stability improvements for the Nexus 7 tablet. Moreover, it also mentions the inclusion of “restricted profiles,” while will allow users to limit the access their family members have to apps and content on their tablet. The restricted profiles mode can also be used to secure a tablet in a kiosk setting. Google Keep comes bundled with the update. It is essentially a note taking app which is already available for download through the Google Play Store. Notes can be color coded to make them easier to spot, the home screen widget ensures that taking a quick note is never more than a tap away. There haven’t been reports of any other Nexus 7 users receiving the update apart from LTE Nexus 7 2013, lets see if the update is rolled out for other Nexus tablets.

Nexus 5 Purported Service Manual Leaks, Details Specifications

Nexus 5 Purported Service Manual Leaks, Details Specifications

It is safe to say that the Nexus 5 is one of the upcoming devices that is anxiously being awaited. There have already been a lot of rumors and leaks about this device, but so far Google hasn’t uttered a word regarding its release or availability. A purported service manual of the Nexus 5, developed by LG, has leaked online. It brings a treasure trove of information, if it is the real deal that is, since it reveals more or less the entire spec list of the upcoming Nexus smartphone.

As per the leaked service manual, the LG Nexus 5 will have a 4.95 inch full 1080p HD display, a 2.3GHz quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and a 2,300mAh battery. There’s apparently going to be 32 gigs of onboard storage apart from an 8 megapixel rear and a 1.3 megapixel front shooter. NFC and wireless charging are present, and so are the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, proximity, ambient light and pressure sensors. Even though all of this seems plausible, a grain of salt is still advised. It is likely that it might be a fake service manual, or a fake that LG deliberately leaked to throw everyone off the scent. There are a number of possibilities here, and these specs can in no way be considered final. As per rumors, the Nexus 5 might be launched towards the end of October.

SimCity Offline Mode Is Under ‘Exploration’

SimCity Offline Mode Is Under Exploration

It has been rumored a few times that an offline mode for SimCity might be introduced, but nothing has materialized so far. Since its launch, SimCity has received seven major updates and yet no offline mode has been added to the game. Maxis Emeryville studio’s General Manager, Patrick Buechner, has breathed life into the possibility. In a blog post, Buechner wrote that “exploration for Offline Mode is happening,” confirming that Maxis really is looking into making SimCity playable without an always-on internet connection.

Buechner acknowledges that this is something that players have anxiously been waiting for a long time, but says that he can’t make any promises on when there will be more information about this. Maxis has a “team specifically focused on exploring the possibility of an offline mode.” Buechner writes that Maxis would like to give players the ability to play SimCity even if they do not choose to connect, and that an offline mode would allow the modding community to tinker without breaking the multiplayer experience. So at this point in time, it can not be said for sure exactly when a SimCity offline mode will be introduced. Maxis is looking into it, but doesn’t provide a timeframe for us to work with. The best SimCity players can do is wait patiently.

    Submarine Rises through Milan Streets

While the images below might look like some sort of horrible, but unlikely disaster, what you’re looking at is the result of an art project on the streets of Milan, Italy.

As part of an ad campaign for European insurance companies Europ Assistance IT and Genertel, ad agency M&C Saatchi Milano installed a full-size submarine in the ground in the center of Milan. Think of it like one of those Allstate Mayhem commercials on steroids.

There was even a live performance to go along with it to help convince bystanders that a submarine had actually crashed through the street, complete with emergency personnel, and a submarine crew:

Retina iPad Mini And Apple iTV Might Come Next Year [Analyst]

Retina iPad Mini And Apple iTV Might Come Next Year [Analyst]

Lately there has been all sorts of speculation about upcoming Apple products. The next products expected to come out of Cupertino include new iPads, a smartwatch and a full fledged television set. Previous rumors suggest that the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 with Retina Display might be unveiled on October 15th, though recent reports claim that Retina iPad mini might not be announced until 2014. Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White, who met with various suppliers in China and Taiwan, seems to have heard the same from a number of sources.

Poor yield rates of Retina Display panels for iPad mini is said to be the reason why iPad mini might not be unveiled alongside the iPad 5 on October 15th, which remains an unconfirmed date as of now. White says that the people he met with said nothing about the iPad mini, while they talked at length about the iPad 5 and the “big changes” that it is expected to come with. Based on this, White believes that the Retina iPad mini might not be coming out this year. Sources reiterated most of what we already know about the iPad 5, that it will be thinner, lighter and its design will be similar to the existing iPad mini. A source White spoke to claims that Apple’s HDTV isn’t “ready for primetime” yet, the person believes that Apple will unveil it sometime next year. Apple has long been rumored to be working on a television set of its own, so far the company hasn’t said if such a product is in the pipeline.

    What’s Your First Tech Memory?

    What's Your First Tech Memory?

I watched The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from a young age. I was so young that my hands weren’t strong enough to turn the knobs of my parents’ retro TV. I’m totally serious. I had to have someone turn on the TV and change the channel for me. And somehow there was never an adult who thought that I shouldn’t be watching that show if I wasn’t even strong enough to turn a knob. Explains a lot. Anyway, the point is that that was the first TV I ever knew. The tech I interacted with consisted of a Panasonic cassette player and that TV. What was sitting in your family’s living room or your grandma’s basement when you were little? Journey back to your earliest tech interactions and reminisce below.
