GTA Online Update Coming Today for Xbox and PS3

GTA V gamers around the world were absolutely thrilled earlier this week when GTA Online finally launched. Unfortunately, many players were unable to get online and play due to overwhelming server demand. There have been some issues reported with GTA Online and Rockstar announced last night that would be issuing an update for the game today.

GTA Online micro-transactions are currently disabled, but one of the biggest problems is that some users are reporting saved data is being deleted. This problem is reportedly causing people to waste money on cash cards.

There’s no indication of if this patch will also address the problem some gamers were having with their cars disappearing from their virtual garages. It would be very irritating to spend lots of time and money upgrading a car in the game only to have it disappear. Hopefully that issue will be addressed with this patch.

“Sometimes I think you need to forcefully close one door, in order for the other one to open a little easier.”

These are the words of Ludwig Wittgenstein, in a speech to a philosophical symposium in 1932.

Wait, no. They’re actually the words of Marina Shifrin, the world-famous YouTube quitter, in conversation with Queen Latifah.

Unless you have been paralyzed by a government stoppage, you’ll know that Shifrin became terribly famous by posting a quitting video on YouTube which delighted millions.

On Wednesday, she appeared on Queen Latifah’s talk show. She explained that she was really not a dancer at all, but a stand-up comedian.

Suddenly, with a spontaneity that will surely echo around the world, the Queen said: “I like to be surrounded by cool, creative, interesting people.”

This would, of course, explain her appearance alongside Charlie Sheen and Pamela Anderson in “Scary Movie 3.”

The Queen continued, with a mischievous grin: “What if I create… [Read more]

Red Cross: Penalize war crimes in video games

Some war video games have reached an incredible level of realism and sophistication in their depiction of armed conflict. Everyday gamers can immerse themselves in the same sort of video games used to train real soldiers. The International Committee of the Red Cross wants these kinds of games to be so real as to also depict punishments for war crimes.

The ICRC is aiming to work with video game developers on integrating virtual consequences. It is especially concerned with crimes such as the use of torture during interrogation, deliberate attacks on civilians, and attacks on medical units. The organization doesn’t oppose the inclusion of these acts in video games, since they happen in real life, but believes there should be penalties for players who engage in them.

The ICRC’s focus is solely on simulations of real-world war, not fantasy games. It also has taken no stance on the level of violence in video games. “The ICRC is concerned that certain game scenarios could lead to a trivialization of serious violations of the law of armed conflict,” reads a page dedicated to the organization’s views on video games and international humanitarian law.
