LOS ANGELES (AP) — Officials say a record 21 California condors have been treated for lead poisoning this hunting season in California.
Veterinarians at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens say three birds were critically sick when they arrived. They were malnourished, had stopped eating and had a disease that causes the stomach to stop moving food.
Dr. Curtis Eng says it’s scary to see so many sick birds, but two of the condors are recovering, and one remains in critical condition.
An international volunteer organization urged Canadian authorities to arrest former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on war crimes charges when he visits the 2013 Toronto Global Forum later this week.
Lawyers Against the War argued in a letter dated Sunday that Toronto Police Chief William Blair and Ontario Attorney General John Gerretsen have a duty to arrest Cheney “as a person suspected on reasonable grounds of authorizing, counseling, aiding, abetting and failing to prevent torture.”
“Once Richard (Dick) Cheney enters Canada … Canada must ensure that Dick Cheney is either investigated and prosecuted for the indictable offencse of torture in Canada or extradited to another country willing and able to do so,” Lawyers Against the War’s Gail Davidson wrote.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The state of Alabama has agreed to settle the remaining challenges over its toughest-in-the-nation crackdown against illegal immigration.
The state and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a proposed settlement Tuesday that would end a federal lawsuit over the law, which has mostly been gutted by court rulings.

Patrick made bead portraits of each of the Robot Masters that Rock faced in the classic Mega Man series.
Patrick said it took him over 90 hours and more than 67,000 beads to put the collection together. I don’t think I’ve ever arranged a thousand of anything.
