This Is How Star Trek Into Darkness Should Have Ended

Okay, I have a confession. I didn’t watch Star Trek Into Darkness. Not because I don’t like lens flares or Trekkies or plot holes but because I’m generally just a terrible person at catching movies while they’re in theaters. It’s okay though. From the looks of this latest hilarious video on how movies should have ended by HISHE, I get the general gist now. [HISHE]

Cheaper Sony Full-Frame NEX Camera Could Feature 24MP Sensor [Rumor]

Cheaper Sony Full Frame NEX Camera Could Feature 24MP Sensor [Rumor]We have been hearing some rumors that Sony could be planning to launch a full-frame NEX camera in the future, and not just one model, but several models. One of them is expected to be the more affordable option, while one will be a mid-ranged model, while the other will be a high-end model. According to the folks at Sony Alpha Rumors, they claim to have been tipped off to some of the specifications of the upcoming devices. Based on their information, it is expected that the cheaper full-frame NEX camera will sport a 24MP sensor, while the high-end model will go with the 36MP sensor. Like we’ve mentioned many times in the past, megapixels don’t determine a camera’s quality, but unfortunately it has been used as a marketing tool where bigger means better.

In any case this kind of corroborates an earlier rumor where it was suggested that Sony could be thinking of choosing between a 24MP, 32MP, or a 36MP sensor for their full-frame camera, but it looks like with the different models rumored, Sony could just end up using all three instead! Take it with a grain of salt for now, but with the rumors pointing at a 16th of October announcement, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see if the rumors pan out.

Intent To Purchase Windows Phone Products In The US Increased To 3.8%

Intent To Purchase Windows Phone Products In The US Increased To 3.8%We can only assume that when Microsoft acquires Nokia that the Windows Phone platform could get a boost, because not only will Microsoft have control over the software (like they always have), but they are now able to make their own phones as well, giving them a greater degree of control over things such as hardware and design. However we guess we won’t know to what effect the acquisition will have, but for now there is a lot of room to grow thanks to a recent survey which found that intent to buy a Windows Phone product in the US is only sitting at around 3.8%.

This is according to a recent survey conducted by Raymond James Analysts Tavis C. McCourt and Daniel Toomey. The survey included 500 US residents and found that only 3.8% of them revealed their intentions to purchase a Windows Phone product. While that number might seem low, it should be noted that this is an increase from 1.5% from back in June 2013. Granted this is good news for the Windows Phone platform, it still pales in comparison compared to the likes of iOS and Android, but hopefully those numbers will be changing in the future.

Half-Life 3 Development Team Revealed By Accident

Half Life 3 Development Team Revealed By AccidentHalf-Life 3: is it a myth, or is it a reality? With the previous Half-Life games enjoying massive success and having such a loyal following, it is only a question of when Valve decides to announce the game. So far the company has kept mum, but a recent trademark filing has sparked new interest and for those who are still a little uncertain as to whether the game exists for real or not, Valve’s project management system was accidentally made public for a brief moment, revealed several staff members who were reportedly working on the Half-Life 3 project.

According to the list, it appears to be genuine as the domain name could not have been registered by a third-party, not to mention the emails of the staff appear to be accurate as well. Assuming that this list is accurate, some of the people working on the project includes Adam Foster, a hobbyist modder who was responsible for the Minerva mod; Kelly Bailey, a sound engineer/musician/game designer who worked on the main Half-Life game back in the day; David Speyrer, the supervisor for Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two; Jeff Lane, Jim Hughes, Jean Rochfort, Karl Whinnie, Segiy Migdalskiy, Michael Coupland, and Ken Banks.

While it looks like Valve is well on their way in terms of developing the game, there’s really no telling when it would be announced, but if previous rumors are to be believed, perhaps an announcement in 2014 is possible.

ROHM Solid Hydrogen Source Fuel Cell

ROHM Solid Hydrogen Source Fuel Cell[CEATEC 2013] Is the world suffering from a shortage in energy? It really depends on where you are living at the moment, and one of the major drawbacks that many of us face these days in the use of our gadgets happen to be the battery life – or rather, the lack of it. ROHM has come up with what they deem to be a revolutionary power generation system that will use just the right amount of hydrogen in order to produce the required amount of electricity, now how about that for efficiency?

It is touted to be a safe and new solid hydrogen fuel source, with a reactivity level that is around 1/1000 that of powder. How is it safe, you ask? Well, hydrogen is only produced when it reacts to water, and the only byproduct is not an explosion, but slaked lime – or calcium hydroxide if you want to get technical about things. ROHM has come up with a solid hydrogen source canister and a cartridge, where the latter will offer a full smartphone charge per use, while the former can power a 32” LCD TV for 3 hours. These are single use solutions that might come in handy during emergencies or when you travel, and hopefully it will be able to create a market of its own eventually with a justifiable cost for consumers.

Target’s Brightspot mobile service launches Sunday, starts at $35 per month

Target announces Brightspot, a prepaid mobile service for arrival on October 6th

Ever tenacious retailer Target is once again nipping at Walmart’s heels. Following the introduction of its Target Ticket video-on-demand service — a direct competitor to Vudu — the big box chain is now looking to get into the prepaid phone business with a service known as Brightspot. The MVNO is set to launch on October 6th, which will use T-Mobile’s network and serve as Target’s answer to Straight Talk. Brightspot will offer two service tiers, one for $35 that includes unlimited talk and text, in addition to a $50 plan that piles on unlimited data with 1GB of high-speed use. While Target’s offering is a bit less tempting than Walmart’s (which offers 2.5GB of high-speed usage for $45), the bullseye retailer will reward loyal subscribers with a $25 Target gift card for each six months of paid Brightspot service. Consider it one more excuse to kick your costly monthly phone plan to the curb.

Lavabit was under FBI pressure to decrypt Snowden connections, court reveals

    Lavabit home

When Lavabit shut down in the wake of Edward Snowden’s leaks, it left a big question unanswered: just what did the US government want that was supposedly so egregious? Thanks to newly unsealed court documents obtained by Wired, we now know much more of the story. The FBI had served Lavabit an order requiring that it hand over Snowden’s encryption keys, helping the agency install a device that would collect metadata from its suspect’s email connections. Lavabit repeatedly turned down the requests since it could have given access to data from every user of the service — at one point it did serve up the SSL keys, but printed out on 11 pages in 4pt type — which led to threats of criminal contempt charges and fines. We all know what happened afterward — company founder Ladar Levison chose to shutter Lavabit rather than comply with the FBI’s demands. While the new details aren’t shocking given the government’s desire to catch Snowden, they help explain Levison’s past statements; he felt that it was better to defend Lavabit in court than risk violating the privacy of his customers.
