Got a Galaxy Nexus?

Got a Galaxy Nexus? No KitKat 4.4 for you. Sorry. That seems dumb and weird since KitKat is supposed to be tricked out for low-spec phones, but it seems to be the case.

Where Monsters Come From, or Bad Paleontology

Where Monsters Come From, or Bad Paleontology

Ancient myths of dragons, titans, and giants—inhuman creatures battling it out on an alien earth before mankind—are easy enough to find. Seemingly every culture has them. What’s perhaps more surprising is that many of these tales of deformed and monstrous beings, whether terrifying dragons or beneficent heroes armed for battle, often resulted from a misunderstanding of the fossil record.

Severed Heads Cake: Till Death Do us Part

Man, this couple really takes the whole “till death do us part” thing seriously. This great wedding cake has both the bride and the groom decapitated. Well, two heads are better than one, even on a cake.

This is either very romantic or very disgusting depending on your perspective. Yes this was actually a wedding cake and the bride and groom held their wedding at one of Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse cinemas, which seems appropriate.

It’s Easy To Clean Under This Levitating Bed

It's Easy To Clean Under This Levitating Bed

Scientists claim there are no black holes close enough to harm our solar system. But they’re clearly not acknowledging the black holes that exist under every bed, sucking in and trapping dropped items, random clothing, and seemingly every last speck of dust in a room. There’s a solution, though, in the form of Letti Bolzan’s clever Iorca bed, which lifts your mattress to turn that under-bed void into tons of easily accessible storage space.

When Bre Pettis unveiled MakerBot’s Digitizer, you couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. And, upon opening our own unit, it’s easy to understand why. When you lift the plastic unit, swaddled in black foam, out of its cardboard box, you feel like you’re stepping into the future. 3D scanning isn’t …

Residents of a remote Norwegian village are getting their first glimpse of winter sunlight, thanks to giant remote-controlled mirrors that reflect the sun’s rays.

Nestled deep in a valley between steep mountains, Rjukan is characterized by dark, sunless days between September and March. But now, three 183-square-foot mirrors placed in the mountains surrounding the small town reflect natural sunlight down onto the town square.

At an inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, residents of Rjukan in sunglasses cheered, waved Norwegian flags, and even lounged in sun chairs in the 45-degree weather. Smiling kids sported suns painted on their cheeks.

Prior to the mirrors’ arrival, those same residents had to catch a gondola to grab a few rays in the dark winter months. The founder of the town, industrialist Sam Eyde, had the cable car built in 1928 to take residents up the hill and into the sunlight. He first came up with the idea… [Read more]
