We’ve all heard and read the story of how Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in his garage decades ago, and how the nascent company and its very few employees sat in that same garage to build some of its first computers. The garage of Steve’s childhood home is definitely an iconic place, it gave birth to one of the most valuable companies on the planet. The Los Altos Historical Commission seems to agree, as it has voted unanimously to designate the home as a “historic resource.”
This unanimous vote marks the end of a two year effort lead by the commission to preserve the ranch-style home as it is, the commission conducted extensive research and property evaluation. Chairman Frank Bishop praised the work carried out by city staff and his colleagues on the commission. The current owner of this house is Patricia Jobs, Steve’s sister, who wasn’t required to give permission in order for it to be designated as a “historic resource.” However, Patricia can appeal the decision to the city council if she wants. It was at this very house that the first 100 Apple 1 computers were built, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and even Patricia Jobs were the few people that helped out. Apple now operates out of Cupertino, California. [Image via Mercury News]

If your iPhone gaming addiction involves more than just matching jewels or candy, you’re probably well aware that a touchscreen doesn’t make for the best controller. But why carry a separate solution when the Arcadie Go incorporates physical buttons into a reversible case that’s always guaranteed to be there when you need a hit of sweet, sweet mobile gaming?
It seems that the initial report of 2.9 million compromised user accounts from Adobe’s security breach earlier this month was a mere drop in the bucket. Krebs on Security reports that at least 38 million active users were were impacted by the incident and that the swiped source code included the …
Galaxy S5 Will Have 4GB RAM [Rumor]
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the Galaxy S5 recently, ever since it was said that Samsung is apparently going to release the smartphone earlier than it had originally intended. The reason for this is believed to be Galaxy S4 missing internal sales projections. As of now, nothing has been confirmed, Samsung hasn’t mentioned anything about Galaxy S4 missing its sales targets. The latest rumor suggests that the Galaxy S5 will come with a whopping 4GB of RAM.
This is likely to be made possible by the 64-bit Exynos processor that the smartphone is supposed to have. Rumor has it that the processor is in the final stages of preparation, before it goes into production. This new processor is possibly going to mark the start of Exynos 6-series, just to differentiate from the Exynos 5-series processors that are used in existing devices. In theory, the 64-bit architecture would be able to cope up with 4GB of RAM, but it remains to be seen if Samsung actually does end up adding it in its future smartphone. The most RAM it offers in a mobile device right now is 3GB, which breathes under the Galaxy Note 3′s hood. 4GB is obviously the next frontier, but how soon will Samsung be able to achieve it? Time will tell.

Four years ago, Oslo-man Christopher Koch’s girlfriend scoffed at his purchase of $27-worth of Bitcoin. Chances are she was singing a decidedly different tune last April, when Koch checked back in on his investment and found out it was worth $886,000. And over a cool million today.
High speed data is already being transmitted by visible light to the moon, so why not in your living room, too? After the Fraunhofer Institute showed off 3Gbps speeds with LED lights, researchers from five UK universities have managed to transmit data at 10Gbps using micro-LEDs with a technique …
Microsoft Executive Believes Wearable Devices Are 3-5 Years Away From Mainstream
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis year we have heard a lot of chatter about the future of wearable devices. We’ve seen a number of companies detail their smartwatches, many of them seeking to achieve their crowdfunding goals. We saw Samsung, Sony, Qualcomm and a few other major companies release their smartwatches. Google continued to make rounds with its Google Glass, which is expected to be released to the public next year. What about Microsoft though? Does Redmond plan on entering the wearable technology market? Seems so, it has been rumored that there are a couple of gadgets being developed at Microsoft. One company executive has reportedly said that despite all of the hype surrounding wearable devices, they’re not likely to enter the mainstream market until 3-5 years from now.
The comment, picked up by Focus Taiwan, was made by Microsoft’s corporate vice president and chairman of its Asia-Pacific research group, Zhang Ya-qin. He expects to see a lot of “try-outs” of such devices in the coming years, devices which are likely to include watches and eyeglasses. Ya-qin says that such devices will require more time, “maybe three to five years in development,” before we can see them in the mainstream market. Though this obviously doesn’t mean that Microsoft won’t come out with a “try-out” of its own within this time period. Only recently the company was rumored to be testing prototypes for “internet-connected eyewear,” basically its own Google Glass rival.

The first full trailer for X-MEN: Days of Future Past doesn’t exactly send Wolverine back to the store – he’s not expired, after all – instead it sends him back through time. It does so with such a blatant force that we must assume that the action of sending this fellow Logan back through time […]
ARM Mali-T760: ARM’s New Top GPU
Posted in: Today's ChiliAt ARM TechCon conference in Silicon Valley, ARM has announced its new T700 series of graphics processor (GPU) which is set to be its fastest to date for high-end smartphones, with the T760 spearheading the line-up. ARM also talked about a T720 model that is aimed for mid-range/low-end devices and reminds that MediaTek, LG and Rockchip have already signed up, just to cite a few. You can expect many variants of these GPUs to show up, depending of the customer requirements in terms of number of cores, and frequency. Unfortunately, the number of cores alone is only useful when comparing GPUs from the same vendor since each chipmaker can have a different definition (if not “exotic”) for what a “core” is. The ARM Mali-T760 is compatible with OpenGL 3.0, OpenCL and RenderScript. (more…)
