These dying stars are known as "planetary nebulas."

In space, no one can hear a dying star scream, but you can certainly see the aftermath if you have a space telescope. To celebrate the spooky season, NASA released three images of “the disembodied remains of dying stars” captured by the Spitzer Space Telescope.

The images of planetary nebulae were captured in infrared light, showing the death of three stars, one of which looks an awful lot like the Mutara Nebula from “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.”

The three nebulae all have interesting names. The first earned the nickname of the “Exposed Cranium” for its resemblance to a brain. It consists of an inner area of ionized gas surrounded by a greenish area of hydrogen molecules. The second nebula is known as the “Ghost of Jupiter” and is located in the Hydra constellation.

Facebook Details Its New Messenger Experience For Android

Instant messaging on mobile is a heavily contested arena, with players such as WhatsApp, Viber, Kik and others competing each other for valuable market share. BlackBerry recently threw its hat in the ring as well with the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone. Facebook too offers a standalone Messenger app, the aim of which is to make it easier for users to chat with their Facebook friends through their mobile device. The company detailed a new Messenger experience for Android today that its currently testing with a limited number of people using the app.

As previously mentioned, the aim of this app is to make it easier to connect to Facebook friends. The new experience adds a Messenger icon next to people’s names, so users can instantly view in the standalone app itself how many of their contacts are also using Messenger. The icon will let users know who is using the app, which means that they’ll instantly be notified if they’re messaged through Messenger. The new experience also brings the ability to message people who’re not on Facebook or are not in a user’s connections. The new Messenger app on Android can be used for texts, all that’s needed is the contact’s phone number. Apart from these features, a number of changes have been made to the user interface as well. Facebook hasn’t said when the new Messenger experience on Android will be rolled out for everyone.

USS Enterprise vs. Millennium Falcon Jack-o’-Lantern

Worf: Captain. There is an anomaly dead ahead. Too late! We have entered a galaxy far, far away. So far away I’m not getting any accurate readings. Oh, and we are also now in a time period that the computer will only say is a “long time ago”.

Picard: What is that Worf? Is that a ship? It looks a bit like that hamburger the replicator served me for lunch not one hour ago. With a satellite dish on top. Red alert! Raise shields!

    star trek star wars pumpkinmagnify

This awesome pumpkin is the only crossover between Star Wars and Star Trek that I want to see. Who would win? Picard and Kirk are a seasoned starship Captains with years on their side, but Han Solo is rough and tumble and has the reckless asset of youth. He also has a Wookiee co-pilot by his side, who could probably rip the arms off of pretty much any member of the Enterprise’s crew.

This pumpkin is from master pumpkin carver Alex Wer. Check out his entire gallery here.

    Sprint Nexus 5 Rumored

    Sprint Nexus 5 Rumored

Rumors about the Nexus 5 have been coming in almost every single day, yet there’s no word as yet from Google on when its going to make the announcement. We’ve already seen multiple press renders being leaked, and the expected specifications of this smartphone have been talked about repeatedly. As per rumors, Google might announce the Nexus 5 on November 1st, but there’s no confirmation of that as yet. The latest rumor points towards Sprint offering the Nexus 5 to its existing and potential subscribers.

The rumor comes from well known Twitter personality @evleaks, who has a solid track record when it comes to these things. If this is true, then its certainly good news for Sprint subscribers, who didn’t receive the Nexus 4 last year. It remains to be seen if there will be a separate variant for Sprint or if one SKU of the Nexus 5 will contain the required CDMA, GSM and LTE radios. @evleak’s tweet also contains a render of the Nexus 5 which is no different from the ones we have already seen, a number of them have been leaked by this source as well. There’s no official word on pricing and availability as yet, so we’ll just have to wait for the official announcements to take place.
