Pop-Up Snowman flips the bird to the weather channel

pop-in-snowmanI don’t know about you, but don’t you think that the weather channel is more or less obsolete these days? I know that I have not relied on the weather report for more than a decade or two already, but perhaps it is just me, as I have yet to perform a survey to figure out whether the weather channel is relevant or not. During winter, kids would always love to hear that school is closed because too much snow has fallen over the night – which translates to having a round of snowball fights and perhaps spending some family time building a snowman with dad and mom.

With the $159.99 Pop-Up Snowman, however, you need not rely on the fickle weather in order for you to bond with your kids in building a snowman. You can now have an instant snowman appear with the swipe of a credit card, even if it is in the middle of summer. This jolly snwman takes just minutes to set up, and he will never melt either, no matter how high the mercury goes up eventually. Not only that, the Pop-Up Snowman is massive to toddlers and small ones, as he stands at more than 5 feet in height with 100 white LEDs lighting him up, as power is supplied via a 9 foot long cord. Made out of weather-resistant PVC, it can be folded flat for easy storage.

    Pokémon X/Y Creature Map: Catchtography

Redditor Bobdor made a very useful map that lists the Pokémon available in Pokémon X/Y based on where you can catch them. Instead of selling or even asking donations for the map, Bobdor chose to share it with all of us for free. That’s the spirit of Kalos at work. Depending on what you want to get from the games, the map could either be a minor or a major spoiler. I think it’s an essential cheat sheet, much like the type chart.

Aside from organizing the creatures by locale, Bobdor also included a list of Pokémon that you can only obtain through evolution or Friend Safari. The only major omission in Bobdor’s map is the list of unobtainable Pokémon that you can only have in Pokémon X/Y if you already got them in previous Pokémon games, but again Bobdor has done more than enough.

Ready to catch ‘em all? You can download Bobdor’s map as a PNG file or as a PDF file. Redditor Thorium also setup an online version of the map if for some reason you don’t want to keep a copy of it. Forget about Goomy, Honedge and Hawlucha; we should be making Bobdor memes and fan art.

IDC shows all phone shipments rise but Nokia

It would appear that we’ve got a bit of a rarity going on this quarter for phone and smartphone shipments across the world according to the IDC. This device tracker seeks out shipment numbers, you should keep in mind, not smartphone and non-smartphone sales, so you’re not seeing the end result, just the part of […]

This Metallic Sphere Will Some Day Carry Martian Samples Back to Earth

This Metallic Sphere Will Some Day Carry Martian Samples Back to Earth

This little spherical container may look more like a rejected R2-D2 prototype than a piece of cutting-edge technology, but is in fact the vessel in which the European Space Agency hopes to ship Martian samples back to Earth in.

The Budgee Bot Can Help You Bear Your Burden

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 3.36.22 PM

Kill your mule because Budgee Bot is the first consumer-oriented pack-bot designed for the average user. This twee little robot has a basket and a motorized platform and will follow you anywhere, carrying your shopping, luggage, and pets behind you like a robotic sherpa.

The robot holds up to 50 pounds of stuff and you can close it up into a small five-pound bundle. It can sense bumps and cliffs and it has an auto-follow system that will look for and maintain a safe distance from you and your phone. He also loves you.

Budgee Bot cares about you and wants to be your friend. Each day he greets you and does his best to cheer you up!
His favorite place is to be with YOU!

If you’ll recall robots like Big Dog were originally designed to act as pack animals on the battlefield. Budgee Bots’ creators, Five Elements Robotics, have taken that idea to its obvious consumer conclusion. You can see a few more pictures of the finished product at Spectrum.

The company is looking for a November crowd funding launch and Budgee Bot should cost about $1,400 when it’s finished – quite a bit to pay for a little robotic Dobby.

Noise-Canceling Windows Could One Day Become A Reality

Noise-canceling headphones aren’t exactly a new technology as many of us have made it through their day with the ability to listen to their tunes and nothing else around them. The problem with noise-canceling headphones is if you’re using them at home to drown out sounds coming from outside, you might miss some important sounds such as a fire alarm, the FedEx guy ringing your doorbell or your wife ordering you to take out the trash for the third time today. But if this Sono concept device becomes an actual consumer product, we could live in a world where noisy neighbors probably won’t bother us as much as they currently do.
