Apple To Offer Personal Pickup For iPad Air On 1st November

Apple To Offer Personal Pickup For iPad Air On 1st NovemberIf you’re planning on picking up Apple’s upcoming iPad Air, the tablet will be available for purchase come 1st of November, but for those of you who would rather not queue at the stores and deal with the crowd and wait in line, or are too busy for the tablet to be shipped directly to your home, here’s another option for you: in-store pickup. According to a smattering of reports, it seems that Apple will offer Personal Pickup for the iPad Air beginning on the 1st of November, which is also when the tablet will officially be released to the masses.

Basically what Personal Pickup does is that it allows users to place a reservation on the iPad Air via Apple’s website, after which they will be able to head on over to an Apple retail store and pick it up in person. This is great for those who are too busy during the day to hit up an Apple store, or who might not have anyone at home to accept the delivery of their brand new tablet. In any case we guess we will have to wait and see if this program goes live, so check back with us on the 1st of November for the official details! So, who else is planning on getting the iPad Air come release day?

Here’s an Amazing Card Trick Bet You Will Always Win

The beauty of math and numbers and formulas and equations and so forth is that they can work without you ever understanding how the hell they work. What seems like complete randomness is actually just a math problem! Like this slick trick with a deck of cards. Take twenty or so cards and flip over five cards face side up and randomly insert them back into the rest of the deck. Shuffle it up all you want, split the deck in two and you can get the same exact amount of face up cards in each card pile.

ARM report claims the always-connected ‘Internet of Things’ is already here

The Internet of Things (IoT) is finally here. Or at least, that’s what a recent report by the Economist’s Intelligence Unit wants us to believe. Sponsored by ARM, which certainly has a vested interest in the matter, the 32-page paper states that the industry is at last catching on to the idea of …

FileSeek: Use Regular Expressions to Search File Contents

This article was written on November 04, 2010 by CyberNet.

    search file contents-1.png

Most current operating systems include some sort of indexed file searching functionality, and with that you can often get instant results back on any query you perform. As I pointed out a few weeks ago those tools still leave some things to be desired… especially when dealing with searching the contents of files for some particular text.

FileSeek falls in line with the MariusSoft File Searcher in that it does a great job searching the contents of any file you desire. Both are free utilities that don’t require any files to be indexed prior to kicking off a search, and they are pretty fast at getting results. Both also let you use regular expressions to search for text in a file, but FileSeek is the only one that has Windows Explorer context menu integration. If you regularly perform file searches that can become quite useful.

Here are some of the features highlighted by the developer:

    • Search for text string matches inside any kind of file
    • Match Regular Expressions inside any kind of file
    • Search a folder and all of it’s sub-folders
    • Match 1 or more file patterns, like *.jpg, file?.txt or anything else you can imagine
    • Exclude 1 or more file patterns from your search, like *.exe or *.dll
    • Filter results by the last modified date
    • Never indexes files in the background

When you go to grab the download you may overlook the tiny text underneath the download button that offers a version without an installer. That’s the version I tend to lean towards, but you can always grab the installer version if you want all the shortcuts and stuff to be created for you. It’s free either way you decide to go.

A Fully Decked Out Mac Pro Would Cost $14,000

If you’re not planning on picking up Jony Ive’s specially designed Mac Pro in a Product RED finish at auction, you could potentially save yourself anywhere between $40,000-$60,000. Apple did reveal that the basic Mac Pro model would cost $3,000 which is admittedly a pretty hefty sum, with PC enthusiasts arguing you could get something similar, if not better, for that price (or less). But what if you were an Apple fan and the Mac Pro meets your needs and you wanted to deck it out? How much would that cost you? Well the folks at Unbox Therapy decided to find out and the final amount is an eye-watering $14,000, and if you were to load it up with multiple displays that would take advantage of the 4K video output, you’d be looking at around $25,000.

These numbers are based on components that one could get from the web and have their prices based on street prices. In any case if you’d like to see the breakdown on how and why a fully configured and upgraded Mac Pro would cost so much, check out Unbox Therapy’s video above for the details. In the meantime for those planning on picking up a regular Mac Pro without all the bells and whistles, Apple has set a release date for their upcoming desktop computer sometime in December.

BBM Rumored To Arrive On Windows Phone As Well

BBM Rumored To Arrive On Windows Phone As WellRight now BBM is available for BlackBerry (naturally), and recently iOS and Android, but what about Windows Phone? Will BlackBerry be sending some love Microsoft’s way? Well according to Twitter account, BlackBerry Leaks, the answer is yes. The tweet has claimed that BBM will eventually be making its way onto Windows Phone, essentially covering all the major smartphone platforms out there. Of course there’s no telling if this rumor is true but it would make sense that BlackBerry would love to cover all their bases, even if the Windows Phone platform is considered to be their closest rival at the moment.

It was speculated that BBM would skip Windows Phone simply because Microsoft was BlackBerry’s biggest competitor, but we guess covering more ground does make sense to a certain degree as well. In any case like the tweet says, the app will arrive on Windows Phone as a web, tablet, as well as a desktop version. It is not clear if this applies to only Windows-based devices, or if the tweet was referring to all tablets (including iOS and Android tablets), so take it with a grain of salt for now and we’ll wait and see if anything comes from it. In the meantime, are Windows Phone owners excited that BBM could potentially be making its way to your device?
