Doctor Who 11th Doctor Cupcake: The Regeneration That Could Have Been

Check out this Doctor Who cupcake that looks just like the 11th Doctor. It shows us that that Steven Moffat really missed the boat with the latest regeneration. Why couldn’t he have regenerated into a delicious cupcake? Cupcakes are cool! Right?

Don’t tell me that a show full of cupcake people wouldn’t work. Give cupcake Doctor Who a sonic screwdriver and an edible companion and you have a show. And a TARDIS of course. When it is time to regenerate, he just melts and turns into batter, goes into the oven and turns into a new version. Yes, that is the weird way my mind works.

A Fake Slum for Luxury Tourists Who Don’t Want to See Real Poverty

A Fake Slum for Luxury Tourists Who Don't Want to See Real Poverty

It’s estimated that one in eight people worldwide live in so-called slums, which, in some cities, makes visiting these informally maintained neighborhoods unavoidable. Although controversial, the practice of "slum tourism" has become a popular way for tourists to engage with poverty on a personal level. But why go visit an actual slum when you can simply stay at a luxury resort that looks like a slum?

Comet ISON: Viewing guide for the comet of a lifetime (maybe)

When planning the holidays, don't forget to pencil in time for this epic celestial light show.

(Credit: NASA/MSFC/Aaron Kingery)

As always, this Thanksgiving (and Hanukkah) holiday week will be all about food, friends, family, Black Friday shopping — and one large space snowball’s existential journey around the sun that will either annihilate the comet or turn it into a majestic and luminous celestial body for a brief period of time.

On second thought, I don’t recall one of those things from last year. That’s because Comet ISON is on target to make a once-in-a-lifetime trip around the sun on Thanksgiving afternoon. Basically a rock from deep space covered with tons of ice and snow, Comet ISON has been winging its way past Earth and our neighboring planets in recent weeks on a “sungrazing” course with our nearest star.

It will reach its point of “perihelion,” where it comes closest to the surface of the sun (within only 730,000 miles) on Thanksgiving afternoon and then whip around the other side of the star and head back in our direction. If ISON survives this closest encounter with the sun, it could become one of the brightest comets seen in recent decades or longer as it passes by on its way back … [Read more]

Lumen Bluetooth 4.0 LED bulb takes on Philips hue

Color-changing LED lighting is probably the most obvious way of introducing some smart home tech, and though Philips’ hue is the best known system, that hasn’t stopped startup rivals from trying to take its crown. Lumen turned to crowdfunding to get its TL800 Bluetooth 4.0 bulb off the ground, and now it’s headed to store […]

Nokia Lumia 2520 commercial misleads, plays on geek insecurities

Nokia has released a somewhat misleading commercial having a go at a tablet that could be interpreted as an Apple iPad while touting its own, new Lumia 2520 tablet. The ad focuses on the competitor tablet’s lack of a keyboard and allegedly shorter battery life. The problem with the ad is that it fails to […]

LG G Flex Successor Already In The Pipeline [Rumor]

LG G Flex Successor Already In The Pipeline [Rumor]

It hasn’t been long since LG unveiled its new smartphone with a flexible display, aptly called the LG G Flex. The device is yet to make its way Stateside. In fact, LG is yet to launch it globally. The company has confirmed though it plans to launch it on a large scale, unlike the similar smartphone from Samsung, called Galaxy Round, which is only available in limited quantities in South Korea. As people around the world wait to get their flex on, LG might already be working on the next generation G Flex smartphone.

Rumors coming in from South Korea suggest that LG Electronics and LG Display are currently working on a new generation of flexible displays that can be used in smartphones. The company is said to be in planning stages for mass production of these panels. It is said that these display panels will be flexible enough to flex at 90 degrees and to support that the next generation G Flex will have a body made from a special hard rubber compound. It can be presumed that this smartphone might also have a flexible battery. Industry sources cited in the report claim that LG G Flex successor is going to be released in the second half of 2014, which means that there’s still a lot of time before this device will officially be unveiled, going by this timeframe that is.

Nokia Lumia 2520 UK Ad Takes A Swing At The iPad Air

We have seen Nokia consistently take shots at the competition through a variety of mediums. It mocked Apple’s choice of colors for the iPhone 5c by tweeting a picture of its Lumia smartphones with the caption “Imitation is the best form of flattery.” Only recently it took a shot at BlackBerry through Twitter as well. The latest target is the iPad Air, a tablet that the Nokia Lumia 2520 is going up against. The tablet’s UK highlights its several features at the expense of the new Apple iPad.

A guy in the ad walks into a coffee shop to show off his iPad Air to his friends, the voice over announces that the tablet is thinner than a pencil, an obvious reference to the iPad Air ads that Apple has been running. The guy is then shown having difficulties trying to get his work done on the tablet, so he whips out his laptop. When he starts using the iPad Air again, the battery dies. That’s when he notices another person in the coffee shop with a Nokia Lumia 2520 hooked up with a Power Keyboard, which offers an additional five hours of battery life as it has an 8,000mAh battery tucked inside. So as the guy wonders if he bought the wrong tablet, you’ll probably be a little bit curious about Nokia’s new tablet as well. Do check out the ad posted above, and head to our review of the Nokia Lumia 2520 if it captures your attention.

The NightSUP is a Light Up Paddleboard

    Small-NSUP
There’s something calming about water. It’s like being wrapped in a hug that lasts just as long as you want it to. The only difference being that you come out of it a bit pruny. This planet is primarily covered in water, so it’s only natural that we like spending some time with it. Many people like to swim, others like to go kayaking, but some prefer to stand up and paddle away on a board.

If you’re more of a night owl, then it can be a little hard to see at times for this activity. The NightSUP is a light-up paddle board that will let you see all around you, and will make sure that others can see you too. In essence, it’s a board that been converted using a high-intensity LED kit. It’s glassed in for protection, and is connected to a rechargeable battery that is hiding in the deck hatch.

This will give you the same kind of experience that a glass-bottom boat would, as you can see underwater creatures doing their thing without disturbing them. If you don’t want to convert one of your boards or buy one as is for the $1799-2899 price range, you can always get the $249 kits that will let you put it together on your own. They do recommend that you get a professional to install it though, as you may just ruin a perfectly good board by thinking you can do it better, which will cost you more in the long run.
