Microsoft Planning To Unite Their Windows Operating Systems

Microsoft Planning To Unite Their Windows Operating SystemsWhen it comes to Microsoft’s operating systems, the company has three under their belt. They have the regular version of Windows which are designed for Intel/AMD processors for computers and laptops, and they have Windows RT which is for ARM-based devices, such as tablets like the Surface 2, and they also have Windows Phone which has been designed specifically for smartphones in mind. Sometimes it can get a bit confusing but it seems that Microsoft is hoping to put an end to the confusion sometime in the future.

This is according to Executive VP Devices and Studios at Microsoft, Julie Larson-Green, who stated during a Q&A held at the UBS Global Technology Summit that there will come a day when the company will no longer have three versions of Windows, but will unite all 3 under a single brand. “We have the Windows Phone OS.  We have Windows RT and we have full Windows.  We’re not going to have three.  We do think there’s a world where there is a more mobile operating system that doesn’t have the risks to battery life, or the risks to security.  But, it also comes at the cost of flexibility.  So we believe in that vision and that direction and we’re continuing down that path.”

Turtle Beach Announces Xbox One Headset Upgrade Program

Turtle Beach Announces Xbox One Headset Upgrade Program

If there’s one drawback to purchasing the new Xbox One console, it would be how older headsets might not be compatible with the device. Microsoft has announced that they are working on an adapter that will help make it compatible, and the good news is that headphone manufacturer, Turtle Beach, has announced something similar as well for their customers. The company revealed that they will be giving out free Xbox One compatibility kits for certain models of Turtle Beach headsets as long as they were purchased between the 22nd of November (when the console was released) until the 30th of January 2014.

These models include the Turtle Beach Ear Force XP SEVEN, X42, XP400, or XP510, and Turtle Beach expects the compatibility kits to start shipping for free between the 1st of March 2014 to the 30th of June 2014. This is still a bit of a wait, but if you love the headphones and would rather not use something else, we guess you’ll just have to wait until then. According to Turtle Beach, “The compatibility kit includes a Microsoft proprietary audio control unit that connects to the Xbox One controller via the controller’s expansion port. The unit makes volume, game-chat audio mix, and mute controls easy to access while playing. The control unit also passes audio through to the headset. The kit also includes a cable that connects the headset to the control unit for chat audio.” More info can be found on Turtle Beach’s website.

‘We’re Losing Our Little Boy’: One Family’s Heartbreaking Fight For Their Son’s Education

WASHINGTON — Greg Masucci just wants to hear his little boy say his own name.

That’s what he tells developmental specialists as he sits in an office at John Tyler Elementary School for what feels like the hundredth meeting to hash out his son’s educational goals. This time, the specialists insist the school can’t be expected to teach 6-year-old Maximus to say his name and his family’s name upon request.

“He should be able to say his name, our name … and maybe ‘Washington, D.C.,'” Greg says. “You know, just, God forbid, if he gets kidnapped.”

Future Windows Phone Devices Could Get As Big A 7-inches

Future Windows Phone Devices Could Get As Big A 7 inchesAs it stands, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is the largest smartphone available in the market, beating out the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 by a close margin of 0.1”. If you have ever held an Xperia Z Ultra, you would know that the thing is huge and while it might seem like a relatively good size for a tablet, especially for those who prioritize portability, as a phone some might argue that it is a bit big and borders on ridiculous. Well if you thought 6.4” was a ridiculous size for a phone, prepare to be blown away for 7” phones in the future, assuming if Microsoft gets their way.

According to Peter Torr, he wrote on the Windows Phone Developer Blog that one day, in theory, it would be possible to have Windows Phone devices that go as big as 7”! This post was made in relation to talking about how developers could take advantage of the fact that the GDR3 update has given them tools that can detect the size of the screen, and allowing them to keep the content of what’s being displayed similar to what’s shown on a smaller screen, as opposed to cramming more information just because of its larger display. Of course like Torr said, this is just theoretically speaking but what do you guys think? Anyone up for a 7” Windows Phone handset?

Another Limited Edition White Xbox One Console Spotted On eBay

Another Limited Edition White Xbox One Console Spotted On eBayWe had caught wind of a limited edition white Xbox One console that would be an exclusive to developers who worked on the Xbox One at Microsoft. Unsurprisingly some units have made their way onto eBay, with one going for as high as $11,300! Well the good news is that if you have the cash to splash and wouldn’t mind getting the limited edition Xbox One, you’re in luck because it looks like another white Xbox One has made its way onto eBay. At this time of writing, the console is going for $2,125 and with about 6 days to go, we wouldn’t be surprised if it managed to come close to $11,300, if not higher.

We’re not sure if the seller is an Xbox employee or if he/she is simply selling on the behalf of one, but either way the console appears to be brand new and will come with the usual, such as the Kinect sensor, a black and white controller, four Xbox One video games, and since this is also considered to be a “Day One” Xbox unit, it will also come with the achievement, which according to our earlier post, is actually something people are paying money to buy. So, any takers?

Xbox One Day One Achievements Can Now Be Bought On eBay

Xbox One Day One Achievements Can Now Be Bought On eBayAchievements are a great way to show your friends your “skills” when it comes to gaming, especially since some achievements are not easy to come by. As you guys might have heard, gamers who purchased Day One editions of the Xbox One will also be getting an achievement, which is pretty limited since these are exclusive to Day One units. What this means is that if you were not quick on the trigger when it came to buying an Xbox One, chances are you will not get that achievement. But exactly how much is an achievement worth? Well apparently anywhere between $30-$50, at least according to listings on eBay.

Yup, it looks like there are gamers out there who aren’t too fussed about achievements and are willing to sell other gamers the code which will give them the achievements, even if their console units aren’t Day One units. Interestingly enough these are also the prices that gamers were willing to pay for the weed emoticon on Steam awhile back, but what do you guys think? Does it really count as an achievement if you bought it? Or better still, would you be willing to buy an achievement just for  bragging rights?

Iowans Worry About Ethanol’s Lost Political Clout

ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) — For decades, presidential candidates’ chances in Iowa were wounded if not doomed unless they backed federal support for ethanol, a boon to the state’s corn-growing economy.

That rule of politics collapsed resoundingly in the 2012 campaign when five of the six top Republican candidates said it was time for such intervention in the private market to end.
