Victoria Beckham Assisted In Skype Collaboration Project Launch

Victoria Beckham Assisted In Skype Collaboration Project LaunchOne of the most powerful celebrity couples in the world today, David and Victoria Beckham, are still going strong after all these years and a few kids later. Well, Victoria is a celebrity in her very own right, where she became famous before her husband David Beckham wowed the world with his smoldering good looks and crossing ability. One of her most recent forays to go under the spotlight would be assisting in the launch of The Skype Collaboration Project , which so happens to be an online destination that will place an emphasis on the intersection between technology and creative industries.

This particular project concentrates strongly on creative talent, and celebrated British fashion designer Victoria Beckham, otherwise known as Posh Spice, is also part of the setup. The Skype Collaboration Project intends to encourage emerging creative talent in four different methods, namely the use of technology to bring innovative ideas and products to life, being able to channel passion and entrepreneurial spirit into success, to help shape inspiration into reality through the power of collaboration, and to exhibit the incredible craft from artisans around the globe. Skype intends to let you find out more about the Victoria Beckham label in a totally new manner, including what kicked off her business to other aspects such as innovation, collaboration, entrepreneurialism and the ability to embrace technology to augment her creative powers.

Team Fortress 2 Chess Set: Deep Blu

The world’s premier hat simulator spreads its death and destruction to the chessboard. NECA’s WizKids will be releasing a Team Fortress 2 chess set by the end of the year. Never above mocking itself, Valve allowed WizKids to turn the game’s classes into disembodied heads, with the chess pieces worn as hats.

The hats are not just for show either. According to WizKids’ press release, the set will let you play a modified game of chess. That’s because the pieces – i.e. the hats – are interchangeable, so you can assign a different class to a particular piece at the start of every game. But while you’re playing, “players can claim various hats from other pieces and assume the movement characteristics of pieces captured, adding an element of variation and challenge to the standard game of chess.” Sadly the hats don’t seem to be stackable.

The Team Fortress 2 chess set should be available from ThinkGeek and the Valve store before the year ends, though it probably won’t be free to play.

Leap Motion releases Free Form, an app that lets human hands sculpt digital clay (video)

When we reviewed the Leap Motion controller earlier this year, we found the application selection to be a bit lacking. Since then, the number of apps has doubled from 75 to around 150, and the Airspace store’s newest edition is the coolest Leap app we’ve yet seen. It’s called Free Form, and it’s a 3D sculpting app (not unlike 3D Systems’ Sculpt) built in house at Leap Motion that lets you manipulate and shape digital objects using your fingertips. David Holz, company co-founder and the man who figured out the math behind Leap Motion’s technology, gave us a demo of the app and talked a bit about why Leap built it. Additionally, he showed us a new developer beta software that does 360-degree tracking built to address some of the original Leap shortcomings.

Robot Does 19 Languages, Could Be Blueprint For Future C3-PO

If there was a particular gift that I would like to have, it would be the ability to understand all the different languages in the world. What a great gift that would be! I know of some people who are fluent in 6 or 7 languages, bless their souls, and the ease at which they switch from one language to another never ceases to amaze me. I suppose robots would be able to handle languages easily with enough processing power and the right kind of algorithm provided for them. Case in point, the fictional C3-PO from the Star Wars universe who is well versed as a protocol droid in thousands of galactic languages. This particular robot that you see above is not that nifty, but it is still able to carry out a conversation in 19 different languages.

Coming in a form factor that is roughly that of a toddler’s, it was constructed by Paris-based robotics company Aldebaran, where it was programmed with language-learning software which was developed by the voice-technology company known as Nuance. This robot is able to move around with a basic walking movement, and has the ability to develop its own personality each time it improves on its speech via repetition. Marine Fabrea, Aldebaran’s head of communications, shared, “He lives his life on your side at home. You can discuss with him, you can ask him to tell a story to your kids.
