CyanogenMod Installer Pulled From Google Play

CyanogenMod Installer Pulled From Google PlayWe know that when it comes to installing custom ROMs on your Android device is not easy, especially if you’re new to all of this, which is why the CyanogenMod Installer was such a great idea, especially when it was launched on the Google Play store for everyone to download! Unfortunately it seems that the app might have violated some terms and has since been voluntarily removed from Google Play. According to the official CyanogenMod blog, this involved one particular function within the app which was related to sideloading apps which could potentially void warranties of devices.

Based on the feedback given from the Google Play team, they agreed that while the app was harmless and did not actually violate their Terms of Service (it did violate developer terms), it still “encourages users to void their warranty” and would not be allowed to remain in the store. It is unclear if the Cyanogen Inc. will find a way around this issue, but for now if you want to get your hands on the installer, they have revealed that they will be submitting their app to both the Amazon and Samsung stores.

World Of Warcraft Movie Delayed To 2016

World Of Warcraft Movie Delayed To 2016It wasn’t too long ago that it was revealed that the upcoming World of Warcraft movie would see a release on the 18th of December 2015. That’s a little over two years to go but now it seems that the movie will be delayed even further, according to a tweet from the official World of Warcraft Twitter account. According to the tweet, it seems that the movie will be moving from its 18th of December 2015 release date to an 11th of March 2016 release date. It is unclear as to why there might be a delay since no explanation was given, but we can’t say we’re too surprised. Given Blizzard’s involvement and the company’s attention to detail and their reputation for delaying games, this does not come as a complete shock, but hopefully what this means is that we can look forward to an even greater movie and perhaps prove that movies adapted from video games don’t have to be horrible.

During BlizzCon 2013, additional details of the movie was shared with attendees. The movie will take us back to the original Warcraft game where it will be more about Orcs versus Humans as opposed to some of Warcraft’s later stories, like the one involving Arthas and the Lich King. The movie is expected to begin filming next year and according to the rumors, Colin Farrell and Paula Patton could be part of the cast. So, who else is a little bummed by this delay?

Google Play Store now highlights Chromecast-friendly Android apps

    Chromecast section in Google Play

Google has lately taken to highlighting tablet-native Android apps; it only makes sense that the company would devote the same kind of love to Chromecast owners. Accordingly, the search firm has recently posted a Chromecast section in Google Play for those browsing from their Android devices. The selection is thin at the moment — you’ll find only Google’s media apps, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Pandora. Still, the section should be a handy one-stop shop for anyone eager to stream video on their TV — and might have a few more entries soon.

Possible Super Smash Bros. Release Date Hinted By GameStop

Possible Super Smash Bros. Release Date Hinted By GameStopNintendo’s upcoming Super Smash Bros. is slated to arrive on the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U come 2014, although at the moment no specific dates have been revealed yet, at least until recently when GameStop updated their database and revealed a possible release date which has been set for the 8th of April 2014 for both the 3DS and the Wii U console. We’re not sure if GameStop is speculating on a release date, or if they knew something and might have accidentally let the cat out of the bag a little earlier than expected.

The Spike TV VGX is expected to take place early December and for all we know, perhaps that could be a platform in which Nintendo will use to announce the release dates. If that is the case, it is not entirely out of the question if Nintendo might have given several retailers the heads up before hand, perhaps to allow them to prep their pre-order pages before the official information has been shared with the public. In any case Super Smash Bros. is one of the titles many gamers are looking forward to in the Wii U, which has been criticized for having a lack of triple A titles, at least compared to other consoles. We suggest you not get your hopes up just yet, but check back with us during the Spike TV VGX for the details!

Time To Move To Hong Kong: U.S. Internet Is Stupidly Slow, Report Finds

On the eve of this traditional American holiday, we’ve got some news that may be obvious to those who’ve ventured to grandparents’ and relatives’ houses where the Internet is less-than-speedy: Download speeds in the U.S. suck, a new report confirms.

Network diagnostics company Ookla on Tuesday released its most recent country-by-country Internet Service Provider (ISP) “Speed Test” results. According to Ookla’s report, the U.S. ranks a mere 31st in the world when it comes to Internet download speeds — behind much of Europe and Southeast Asia.

China Sees 270 Million Daily Active Android Users

China Sees 270 Million Daily Active Android UsersAccording to the latest figures, China has the world’s largest population at 1.3 billion, and according to recent figures released by Baidu, China’s equivalent of Google, it seems that there are about 270 million active Android users in China as well, which basically means that about a fifth of China’s population uses Google’s operating system, and that is pretty damn impressive, especially when considering that it was only a couple of years ago where Android’s population in China was around 50 million.

Unfortunately it looks like maybe the market could be starting to become saturated as Baidu has also reported that the growth of Android appears to be slowing down at 13% in Q3 2013, compared to 55% in 2012, but at the same time is slightly better than the 10% we saw in Q2 2013. Other interesting numbers shows that 48% of Android sales are from first time smartphone owners, and that a big part of Android’s growth, 45%, are from rural areas and smaller cities. It’s interesting to note that due to China’s censorship policy, most, if not all, Android devices in China do not provide access to the Google Play store, but instead will rely on China equivalent options.

Android’s penetration into the Chinese market is also largely thanks to the variety of manufacturers in China, some of which we have heard before, such as Meizu, Huawei, ZTE, and Oppo, and there are also many which we have not.
