4 Steps To Healing A Broken Life

The poet, spiritual thinker and author of Seven Thousand Ways to Listen, Mark Nepo explores the ways we can put the pieces back together.

Though no one likes it, each of us will find ourselves broken at some point in our journey. When we find ourselves there, what do we do? I’ve been broken many times — through illness, through the loss of a job, through the derailment of a dream and most recently, through the death of my father. For all of this, I can offer a mysterious truth that life has given me: that we are stronger, gentler, more resilient and more beautiful than we imagine, and that the resource we call life is never far away.

I know this because every time my heart has been shattered, I have felt certain that it could never be put back together. And every time, without exception, not only has my heart mended but it has become larger, stronger and more loving for the breaking. The mysterious and unfailing journey of how this happens is the ordinary art of staying awake. It involves the deep and continuous act of being present in all ways, in all directions. Being present in this way is the practice of holding nothing back.

4oD catch-up streaming comes to Sky Now TV and Roku boxes

A smart TV box for a tenner is a nice thing, but one that streams Homeland on demand is arguably even nicer. As of today, owners of a Sky Now TV media player should see 4oD among their list of free channels, alongside the existing options like BBC iPlayer and Demand 5. Meanwhile, Channel Four’s catch-up service has also landed on Roku boxes this week, which makes sense considering that Sky has a sizable investment in that little hardware platform, too.

Writing Advice: What You Should Do To Get Published

By Writer’s Relief staff:

Another day, another rejection letter—what’s a new writer to do? While holding your breath, stomping your feet, or crying might sound cathartic (not to mention dramatic), it won’t help your writing get published. You can, however, develop certain behaviors that will increase the odds of a literary agent or editor saying “yes” to your work.

Pick up the write habit. No matter how naturally skilled you are, if you want to get better at something, you have to practice. Even the best writers can have a mediocre, not-so-stellar day. Look at your work objectively, and be honest with yourself about what needs to be improved.

Beijing Destroys Barbecue Grills To Cut Air Pollution, Sparking Criticism Among Citizens

BEIJING (AP) — Beijing is waging a war against air pollution, one barbecue at a time.

Photos carried by state media showed workers on Tuesday cutting pieces of metal with sparks flying as city wardens looked on.

Jessica Alba Goes Blonde For ‘Barely Lethal’ Movie Role

Jessica Alba showed off a head full of blond hair on Instagram recently, but it seems the color change was a temporary one.

On Sunday (Nov. 24), a blonde Alba posted a selfie to Instagram from the set of her upcoming flick, “Barely Lethal,” starring Hailee Steinfeld as a 16-year-old assassin who longs for a normal life and decides to enroll in a suburban high school. “#victoriaknox #selfie @barelylethalmovie taking a break btwn takes -hiding out in a rm -all this #action and #stunts r exhausting,” she wrote.

Alba’s tresses had been transformed — bright blond on the top layer with darker roots, E! News noted. It made for a beautiful contrast against the actress’ dark eyes and brows.
