LG teases CES home theater lineup including a multi-room music streamer

Nothing says “holiday cheer” like a fresh coat of snow, hot toddies and scads of CES pre-announcements from LG. After dishing on some of its 2014 smart TV plans, the Korean company has now moved on to audio, detailing several new components starting …

HipShotDot Aims to Improve Your FPS Aim

If you regularly play FPSes on your big screen TV, then there’s a handy little gizmo out there that you might want to add to your arsenal. It’s called the HipShotDot, and it’s designed to improve your aim when playing FPSes that have a targeting reticle on screen.

Basically, the HipShotDot is a bright red LED attached to a small transparent suction cup. To use it, simply plug one end into an open USB port, then stick the LED directly over the center of the targeting reticle, then drape the remaining skinny cable down the screen and suction cup it in place. When plugged in, the LED provides a bright new point for you to focus on during FPS battles.

In my experience with the gadget, it definitely made it easier to focus on the dead-center point when aiming weapons. It works with any console or PC, and any FPS that has a consistent targeting point on screen. I suppose it would also work with air and space combat games as well. It also works with any display with a smooth surface. It definitely works with LCD, Plasma and CRT screens, though I’m not sure how well it would stick to a projection screen.

There are only a couple of minor drawbacks to the HipShotDot – first, it remains lit as long as you have it plugged into a USB port. This means that it stays on even during cutscenes and times when you’re not aiming. It’s small enough that it’s not too distracting, and its cable is quite slim too. Though I wish that it had a switch on the cord so you could at least turn it off when you shut down your console – since most consoles continue to provide power via USB when in standby mode. Still, the benefits far outweigh the cons if you’re really into FPS gaming like I am. Plus, the LED effect is kind of cool. It almost looks like a laser sight.

The Amazing Quest To Preserve and Restore 52,000 Holocaust Testimonials

The Amazing Quest To Preserve and Restore 52,000 Holocaust Testimonials

From 1994 to 1999, some 52,000 testimonies from Holocaust survivors and eye-witnesses were recorded on Betacam SP tapes by USC’s Shoah Foundation‘s Institute for Visual History and Education. Last year, a massive preservation project was completed that digitized all the inventory—but about five percent of the tapes were discovered to be almost completely unwatchable. Time and faulty equipment used at the outset had taken their toll, and many of these clips couldn’t be visually parsed at all.

Android 4.3 For Xperia Z, ZL, ZR And Xperia Tablet Z Released

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean has been around for quite some time now, in fact it has already been succeeded. A few weeks back Google released Android 4.4 KitKat, and while a number of devices have already been updated to the latest firmware, it will still take a lot of time for a wide variety of devices to be bumped up to KitKat. Sony had promised to release the Jelly Bean update for a number of its Xperia devices, and today it has finally come through. The Android 4.3 update for Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z has been released today.

Included in the update is a smoother graphical experience and user interface optimization, as well as the Sony Smart Social Camera experience that lets users download and use “Xperia camera apps” from within the viewfinder itself. Sony has also tweaked all of its native apps in this update, which brings updated versions of the Messaging, MyXperia, TrackID, Sony Select and other native applications. Battery STAMINA mode is onboard as well, its an updated version of Sony’s power management app which has a refreshed user interface and more options for getting more out of the devices’ battery. Even though Sony has officially announced the release of the Android 4.3 update for these devices, it might take a while before the update becomes available for various markets and carriers.

Galaxy Gear Update Brings Ability To View Gmail, Facebook And Twitter Messages

Galaxy Gear Update Brings Ability To View Gmail, Facebook And Twitter Messages

When Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear smartwatch earlier this year, it had limited functionality and a limited number of apps. Since then the company has rolled out several major software updates for the smartwatch which have added new features. Only recently a major update was released which makes Galaxy Gear capable of displaying notifications from all apps installed on the user’s compatible smartphone. Today’s update brings the ability to view Gmail, Facebook and Twitter messages, albeit to a certain length after which the phone must be taken out to continue reading. The update is being rolled out in stages, so it will take some time before it goes live in all regions.

The feature isn’t perfect, in the sense that users can’t go through an entire message on their smartwatch, but it does offer a glimpse which should be more than enough in most cases to determine if the message warrants an immediate response. This update also improves Smart Relay, which makes switching between the Galaxy Gear and the Samsung device much more easier. The lift and pause gesture movement to active the clock has been improved as well. Samsung has started off with three of the most popular applications, it remains to be seen if it opens up this functionality to other apps, like instant messaging clients. Galaxy Gear owners probably wouldn’t mind being able to read snippets of incoming WhatsApp messages.

Free AVG Antivirus Finally Works With Vista Beta 2

This article was written on July 14, 2006 by CyberNet.

Free AVG Antivirus Finally Works With Vista Beta 2The hardest thing about testing Windows Vista Beta 2 is not having a reliable antivirus solution that will watch your back. A little while ago Microsoft released a patch so that Symantec Antivirus 10.0.1.622 would work with Beta 2, and now they are doing the same thing for the free version of AVG.

I have installed the Free AVG on a countless number of computers for people and I have never heard of any problems with it. The greatest part is that I never have to worry about the subscription expiring which could result in an infected computer. They also offer a professional version that has a few more bells and whistles like a firewall. If you are just looking for a good antivirus solution then the free version should do you just fine.

Before you head over to download Free AVG you will need to perform a Windows Update to get the necessary patch because without it the antivirus will not function correctly. I am very impressed that Microsoft has been releasing patches to fix some of these antivirus programs especially since they have their own antivirus, called OneCare, to offer.

T Mobile Prepaid Brand GoSmart Offers Unlimited Facebook Access Without A Data Plan

For some people it is absolutely imperative to share very little detail of their day on various social networks, which is why one can easily find most people glued to, Facebook and Twitter chiefly, at any public place. People who constantly feel the need to share aspects of their daily life with the world need a reliable data connection, and if there’s no Wi-Fi and the data plan has run out, one can only imagine how they manage to survive such a situation. T-Mobile’s prepaid brand, GoSmart, has teamed up with the world’s largest social network to offer free unlimited Facebook access to customers even if they do not have a monthly data plan.

Free access also applies to Facebook Messenger, so all of GoSmart’s customers can even chat with their connections on Facebook even if they don’t have a data plan. The service begins from January and requires users to log-on from a browser or the Facebook app on a compatible device. Chris Daniels, vice president of partnerships at Facebook, said that the social network is “delighted” that GoSmart’s subscribers that don’t have data access can use Facebook for free. This is certainly enticing for those who don’t want to be tied up with a postpaid plan, don’t require a data plan but don’t mind being able to check up on Facebook whenever they want, without having to worry about any charges.
