Snapchat is a very popular product. It gained immense popularity soon after it launched, the idea was to let people share Snaps that self-destruct after a few seconds, time limit was decided by the sender. Snapchat is still very much like that, and it thrives more than ever on the goofy and raunchy antics of its users who know that the Snaps will not be saved by the app on the recipient’s device, unless they take a screenshot or a picture with a secondary camera. However, the latest update adds a new feature called “Replay” which gives recipients a second chance to view a video or photo sent through the service provided that the app hasn’t been closed and another Snap hasn’t been received.
Through Replay, users have the ability to view the last Snap that they received for a second time. While the feature doesn’t completely erode Snapchat’s model of self-destructing Snaps, it does contradict the very foundation of this service. This isn’t the first time that the company has gone down this road though, back in October it launched a new feature called Stories which lets users share Snaps publicly or with their friends that can be viewed for unlimited times in 24 hours, after which they are automatically deleted. Right now the Replay feature is buried inside the additional services menu and the app descriptions don’t exactly offer much detail about it. The updated Snapchat apps, which come with additional new features as well, are available now from App Store and Google Play Store.

Its easy to get flabbergasted by the sheer number of Android devices that are out there in the world, and its equally as impressive to see the success that CyanogenMod has achieved. The CM team makes the world’s most popular custom ROMs for a plethora of Android devices, they are loved by millions of users around the world. The official status page reveals that now more than 10 million Android devices around the world are powered by CyanogenMod custom ROMs, its good news for fans of the CM and Android customization community.
The 10 million figure represents the number of devices, not users, those with multiple devices running CyanogenMod ROMs are counted twice. Furthermore, devices that are not actively used are removed from the stats in 90 days. CM Jelly Bean ROMs are by far the most popular, with over 1.15 million users, Jelly Bean trails at second with 700,000. The most popular device is Samsung Galaxy S with more than half a million active users around the world. First Nexus device doesn’t come until the 8th spot on the list which is occupied by the Galaxy Nexus GSM. These figures are bound to go up soon, given the fact that the first Google CTS certified Oppo smartphone with CyanogenMod pre-installed is going to ship in the near future.

Ever since iOS 7 was publicly released, there has been a lot of speculation about the possibility of a jailbreak. It took developers quite a while to work things out and today the first ever iOS 7 untethered jailbreak has been released for all supported devices. There was no tethered jailbreak available for iOS 7, this is the first jailbreak solution released for Apple’s latest OS update and it supports all incremental updates through iOS 7.0.4. All new devices are covered as well, which means that jailbreak hopefuls can now have their way with the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina Display too.
The @evad3rs dev team is responsible for this iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, which has taken over three months to arrive. A couple of weeks back the team had said that work was going smoothly on the jailbreak, that was the last update on its status. The procedure itself is quite simple. Just download the required program from evasion7 website for either Windows and Mac, connect your device to the computer and simply follow the onscreen instructions. The entire procedure shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. iTunes must be installed on the computer and be sure to make a backup of your data before proceeding.

Foxconn is commonly known for its association with Apple, it is one of the largest manufacturers that Apple contracts for a number of its products. While there have been rumors that Foxconn might be thinking about jumping in the smartphone game itself, for now it has found a partner. BlackBerry has announced that it has signed a five year deal with Foxconn, under the deal these two companies will work together to develop smartphones geared primarily towards emerging markets. Foxconn will manufacture these smartphones at its facilities in Mexico and Indonesia.
New BlackBerry CEO John Chen said that this deal allows the company to focus on what it does best, “iconic design, world-class security, software development and enterprise mobility management,” while addressing the needs of emerging markets by leveraging Foxconn’s scale and efficiency in manufacturing smartphones. Chen believes that this deal will help BlackBerry compete more effectively. The company’s hardware division hasn’t been able to produce a hit in 2013 and as a result of that BlackBerry has lost significant market share and money throughout this year. Some analysts believe that this just might be the last straw for BlackBerry and its devices, which once dominated the global market. Back home at Waterloo, the company will continue work on high-end devices, which are expected to come in the first half of 2014.

A couple of weeks ago we were able to give out 16 Pownce invites to the first 16 people that commented. This week we’ve got 18 invites to give away! Remember, Pownce is used to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends, and the only way to get involved is with an invite.
As last time, Chris over at Learn Firefox has volunteered to give his six invites to our readers, and Ryan and I each have six as well. So with 18 invites to give away, go ahead and leave a comment below. Be sure that you leave your email address in the “email field” of the comment section. If you don’t provide an address, we won’t be able to send it to you.
For those of you who read this after the 18 have been given away, feel free to leave your email address in plain sight in the comment (versus only including it in the email field which is visible only to site administrators) and there might be someone who has Pownce and will be willing to send you an invite.
If you have Pownce, you can go ahead and add Ryan and I:
Enjoy!

The teams have broken down their robots and packed them up in crates and suitcases, loaded them into trucks and taken them on airplanes and gone home. Some will lick their wounds and rebuild to fight another day. The lucky ones will get a million dollars each from DARPA to continue developing their bots.
We’ve seen people do crazy things in the past just to get their gaming fix, killing other people included, and on Friday two people were indicted for a similar crazy and hostile act. Christopher Hunter and Rosa Garcia binded a woman to a chair for six hours and held her at knifepoint at her apartment in 1400th block of Harmon Avenue, Las Vegas. They threatened to kill her if a PSP was not handed over to them as random. During the time she was held captive, they forced her to take pills and drink alcohol while being tied to the chair.
They continued to torture her by cutting her hair off and ripping her clothes off, even threatening to find “someone with AIDS to have sex with her.” It is also alleged that Hunter hit her on the head. Metro Police were called and it is reported that Garcia untied the woman before all three walked out. Hunter is said to have remained silent while Garcia denied any wrongdoing. Both of them have been indicted on assault, bribery and kidnapping charges. One can’t even begin to comprehend how people come up with schemes like these for something as trivial as a portable gaming console, and what’s the use when they are likely to wind up behind bars any way.
