HP woes continue as 5,000 more employees face the axe (updated)

It certainly won’t be a happy new year for thousands of HP employees — not when the company has increased its layoff numbers yet again. Hewlett-Packard already adjusted the number of people it needed to let go from 27,000 to 29,000 a year ago, but …

3D Printing Service Uses Your Kinect To Make Mini Figurines Of Yourself

Some might think it is narcissistic to make a figurine of oneself, but one the other hand it would make a great gift to your significant other, or maybe even your parents who might want to remember you in 3D-likeness if you were to go overseas for work or studies. Well if you’ve always wanted to do something like that and you have a Kinect device at home, well you can do that thanks to shapify.me’s website. The website basically takes advantage of the Kinect’s 3D scanning technology to help develop a 3D figurine of yourself and will print it out in 3D.

In fact if you don’t want to scan yourself, shapify.me states that users are free to scan any object that is able to maintain a pose and a facial expression, but has warned against scanning transparent, shiny, or glossy surfaces, which we reckon might give the Kinect’s scanning abilities a hard time, not to mention could mess up the final printout which could be distorted. In order to make use of their website, it requires that users have audio speakers, a USB 2.0 connection, an internet connection, a Kinect for the Xbox or Windows. As for how much it costs, the company has estimated it should cost $59 for a 7-10cm 3D printout of the scan. If you’d like to learn more, hit up its website for more details! Alternatively you can check out the video above for more details as well.

LG Lifeband Touch leak suggests fitness wearable could be imminent

We love it when a leak and a rumor come together. LG’s Lifeband Touch (as claimed by @evleaks), pictured above, is most likely the wearable that was hinted at just last week. The fitness band is likely an evolution of that which we saw back at CES, …

Sony “Sirius” And “Canopus” Smartphones Rumored For 2014

Sony Sirius And Canopus Smartphones Rumored For 2014CES 2014 is just a couple of weeks away and if this year’s CES is any indication, we could be hearing about a new flagship device from Sony. After all Sony gave us the Sony Xperia Z earlier this year, so it wouldn’t be out of the question if Sony were to unveil a new device at CES 2014 next year as well. So what could be in store for us next year? Well according to Chinese website, Digi-Wo, they claim that Sony might have a couple of new devices for us next year. The two devices in question have been given the codenames Sirius and Canopus and could be announced in the first half of 2014, leading us to believe that CES or MWC could be the platform that Sony might use for its announcement.

The full specs of either device remain unknown, but according to Digi-Wo, the Sirius handset is expected to be a 5.2” device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 4G LTE support. As far as Canopus is concerned, the device is rumored to be slightly smaller with a 5” display but will sport a Snapdragon 800 or 805 processor. Oddly enough Digi-Wo claims that the Canopus will have a “no mobile version”, suggesting that maybe the Canopus device could have a media player version launched alongside it as well. Unfortunately that’s all we know about both devices for now, but with CES around the corner, check back with us then for all the details! Hopefully Sony will be able to wow us at CES next year like they did with the Xperia Z which managed to steal the show.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite Passes Through The FCC

Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite Passes Through The FCCBack in November, we reported on the rumors that Samsung could be working on a device called the Galaxy Grand Lite. The handset, if the rumors are to be believed, is said to be a slightly less powerful version of the Galaxy Grand 2 that was announced in South Korea back in November as well, and now thanks to an FCC sighting, a mysterious device has been sighted which some have speculated to be the Galaxy Grand Lite. Granted the filing did not actually specify the name of the device, but this has not stopped the internet from speculating anyway. There is no word on when Samsung could announce the device, but as CES and MWC 2014 are around the corner, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to find out.

As far as its rumored specs are concerned, we have heard the Galaxy Grand Lite could sport a 5” 480×800 display, which is admittedly pretty low by today’s standards. It is also rumored to be powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, and a 2,100mAh battery. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but like we said with CES around the corner, perhaps Samsung might take advantage of the event to announce new smartphones as well, so be sure to check back with us for more updates!

If you haven’t, you have probably heard other people saying they have "20/20 vision" or even the phrase "hindsight is 20/20." The vision scale is so prevalent in American culture that there’s even a TV news show named after it.
