Windows XP Embedded has already been deployed across “several thousand” stores in Europe and Asia. Now, McDonalds will roll out the platform worldwide. Microsoft lauded the partnership for bringing an “open technology platform” to the restaurant chain and ensuring “the next generation of customer service innovations.”

When you buy a new console, like the Nintendo 3DS, chances are the last thing you would expect is to find porn on it. Unfortunately this happens more often than we would like as back in 2012, a similar case happened at GameStop, but this year it looks like the blame has fallen onto Wal-Mart. Tom Mayhew had gone to Wal-Mart and purchased a Nintendo 3DS handheld console system for his 8-year old son who decided to play around with the console’s camera and took photos of himself and his siblings. However when he went into the gallery, instead of finding photos of himself, he instead found pornographic material.
According to Mayhew, “It was a shocker because we had family here, and there were a lot of kids here. The kids were the ones that discovered those pictures. There is no reason for them to be even really on there,” he added. “It’s disgusting for one. It seems that this was the only thing left on it.” The time stamp on the images showed it uploaded/taken in early December, while the console was purchased on the 23rd of December, meaning that the unit they had gotten was a returned product that someone had forgotten to wipe prior to returning it. Unfortunately Wal-Mart has yet to respond to this issue although we expect that the right thing to do is to offer a refund and maybe even gift a free and brand new console as a token of their apology, assuming they were at fault to begin with.

A few months ago, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi3 Android smartphone which made it the first smartphone in the world to feature NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chipset. That in itself was pretty cool but unfortunately at that time, the launch of the handset with the Tegra 4 chipset also meant that the device could only place nicely on China’s TD-SCDMA networks, essentially meaning that if you lived outside of China, well you’d be out of luck if you were hoping to hook onto a 3G network, but if 2G or less is fine, then by all means go for it! However for those who are slightly more patient, you might be pleased to learn that Xiaomi will be launching a WCDMA version of their Mi3 handset on the 31st of December, New Year’s Eve.
This support means that the handset will be compatible with China Unicom’s 3G network as well as 3G networks in other countries. Perhaps not all, but most would be a safe assumption. This means that if you liked what you saw in the handset, you can rest assured knowing that if you were to import it after the 31st of December, you will be able to use it on your carrier’s 3G network. This also means that Xiaomi had to made some hardware changes and will see the device powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 chipset instead, but the rest of its specs, such as its 5” Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear-facing camera, and its 3,050mAh battery should remain the same.

Earlier this year we did a review on an Olympus OM-D E-M5 and if the recent rumors are to be believed, there is a good chance that Olympus could be announcing a new OM-D camera in the form of the OM-D E-M10. This is according to a listing by the Indonesian government which shows a registration for a device called the E-M10 by Olympus, so we guess this isn’t so much a rumor but a certainty, although at the moment is unclear as to what sort of camera the E-M10 could be about. Rumored specs include a sensor similar to that of the E-M5, but the E-M10 is expected to have a brand new image processor, but other than that not much else is known about the camera for now.
It has also been speculated that the E-M10 could be unveiled at CES 2014 which is only a couple of weeks away from taking place, so perhaps we will learn more then. Alternatively some have suggested that Olympus might take advantage of the CP+ show which is held not too long after CES to unveil the camera, so that’s a possibility as well. Either way we will be live at CES 2014 ourselves so do check back with us then to see if Olympus has anything in store for us. Until then we will keep our eyes peeled for more information and update you guys accordingly!

iPad Sales In 2013 Are Leading The Way, But Android And Windows Catching Up
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs we are approaching the end of 2013, we’re sure some of you guys are wondering how well certain products have done throughout the year. Given the innovation and new technology we’ve seen throughout the year, it will definitely be interesting to see who ends up on top, and what worked and what didn’t. Well according to the folks at NPD who have released their latest figures, it would seem as though Apple’s iPads are still dominating the tablet scene, although it does seem to have dipped slightly compared to the previous year. Android and Windows tablets are still behind the iPad although it does look like they are slowly catching up and it will be interesting to see if they will be able to catch up in 2014.
What’s more interesting is the fact that Apple’s MacBook computers have actually taken a dip and have fallen, allowing Google’s Chromebooks to overtake them by a significantly huge margin. It’s interesting because Apple’s MacBook refreshes this year introduced Intel’s latest chipset which not only helped to boost battery life, but also provided a more than decent integrated GPU, but we suppose factors such as price could have been an issue. The report also goes to show that sales of desktop computers are starting to wane, and that Windows-based laptops have started to drop in sales as well. Naturally 2014’s figures could tell an entirely different story but at the same time there’s no reason to see why the trends shown in the graph above might not continue into 2014.

It was just the other day that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 7 was released which is great news for those running on iOS 7 at the moment. Unfortunately despite Jony Ive’s attempts at remaking iOS and giving it a fresh new look, not everyone is appreciative of his efforts, with some calling it cartoony and too bright, and we have even heard reports of how the parallax effect is actually causing motion sickness. In fact we won’t be surprised if some actually preferred the skeumorphic look of iOS 6 and the good news is that if you wanted to downgrade to iOS 6 and still have a jailbroken iPhone, you’re in luck as hacker iH8sn0w has revealed that a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 is on its way.
There’s no telling when the jailbreak will be released, but presumably it will be soon, or at the very least it is progressing along nicely, thanks to a video (above) released by iH8sn0w which shows the jailbreak running on a fifth-generation iPod touch. Unfortunately iH8sn0w thinks that his jailbreak tool will most likely be a Mac-only release, meaning that those running on PCs might not be able to enjoy the fruits of his labor and might have to find someone with a Mac if they wish to jailbreak their phone, but we suppose it really depends on how badly you want to revert back to iOS 6. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information regarding the jailbreak’s release, so check back with us later for more updates.

One of the features that Google has installed on its Android operating system is the ability to automatically backup your photos taken on your phone to Google+, the company’s social networking website. In a way it is similar to Apple’s iCloud service although admittedly Google seems to be putting much more effort into getting users to use its Google+ services as we have seen in the past with YouTube, the removal of the Gallery app, and how would we forget the hilarious “Blackmail” video. In any case for those who feel that Apple’s iCloud pricing scheme is a tad expensive, or at least more than they’d like to pay for backing up photos, Google has launched a new Google+ auto-backup utility for Mac computers with the latest update to their Picasa software.
Interestingly enough this feature has nothing to do with Picasa whatsoever, although it does come exclusively with the app, which means that even if you don’t use Picasa but want the feature, you’ll have to download it anyway. The auto-backup utility will allow users to automatically save photos up to 2048px to their Google+ account, unlimited we might add, or alternatively one could always upload the full resolution to their Google Drive which could eat up whatever space they have available. For those who don’t necessarily need their photos at full resolution, we reckon 2048px is a pretty decent size, not to mention it is unlimited if you were to back it up to Google+ so there’s some money saved right there.

The holiday shopping …
There have been 13 robberies reported in Central Park so far in 2013. But in most of them the robber presumably takes stuff. That’s how that works, right?
