Amazon Reveals It Wants To Deploy Delivery Drones. No Joke.

Amazon offering delivery on Sunday was only the beginning.

In an interview with Charlie Rose on Sunday’s episode of “60 Minutes,” Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos revealed the giant online store is developing a drone-based delivery service called Prime Air. According to Bezos, Prime Air would be able to get customers their products only a half-hour after they click the “buy” button. His “optimistic” estimate to “60 Minutes” was that Prime Air will be available to customers within 4 to 5 years.

Prime Air was unveiled to Rose and “60 Minutes” as a surprise, the secret project being part of Amazon’s busy R&D department. The drones will be capable of delivering items up to 5 pounds in weight, which Bezos said account for 86 percent of the items that Amazon delivers. Individual items will be flown from one of the company’s 96 mind-bogglingly massive warehouses, also known as “fulfillment centers.”

Xbox One Seems To Be Ahead Of The PS4 In Black Friday Sales Figures

Xbox One Seems To Be Ahead Of The PS4 In Black Friday Sales FiguresWhen the Sony PS4 was first released in the US, it managed to garner over a million units in sales within 24 hours. Not to be outdone, Microsoft’s Xbox One, which was introduced to the North American market not too long after that, also managed to clock up more than one million consoles in sales figures within a day. Here we are with Black Friday having come and past, and it seems that the console which is ahead happens to be the Xbox One from Microsoft, or at least according to a survey conducted by InfoScout.

InfoScout happens to be a market research firm, and their findings have pointed to the Xbox One console sales taking up 31% of the market. In second place lies the Xbox 360 with just 1% behind the leader, but perhaps the $180 price point has something to do with it. As for the PS4 from Sony, it came in 4th place by capturing 15% of the market, but one would have to bear in mind that limited stock in stores also play a factor in the final reading. This survey looks into sales from Target and Walmart, so the final tally might change in the long run. Which console do you own at the moment?

New Yahoo Messenger 8.0 Opened to Developers

There’s lots of news in the messenger world today! First, as written about earlier, the Windows Live Messenger download links are active. Subsequently, Yahoo is launching a Yahoo Messenger 8.0. The difference with this new release will be the added release of a software development kit. This kit gives third party access to developers who want to create plug-ins.

There are two types of categories for Yahoo Messenger, conversation and personal plug-ins. One example TechCrunch gave of a conversation plug-in is the ability for two people chatting to be able to pull up a Yahoo Map to discuss restaurants or other pegged locations. Personal plug-ins reduces or eliminates the need to open a browser with options to add news, a calendar, etc.

The release of 8.0 and the software development kit can really only mean more options for messenger users in the future! Some applications have become more well known and used due to the creative, useful plug-ins that have been created for them the obvious and first to come to mind being Firefox.

Also worth noting, it was reported that Microsoft’s Live Messenger was thought to allow users to add their Yahoo contacts. Live Messenger has been released but without this feature.

    PSN Suspends Redemption Of Vouchers

PSN Suspends Redemption Of VouchersIf you are a gamer who intends to redeem your vouchers on the PlayStation Network (PSN), but somehow or rather still continue to run into issues that prevent you from doing so, that is because your account has experienced a suspension. The thing is, you do not need to freak out at all, since the redemption of vouchers has been suspended. This particular bit of news was announced over on the PlayStation Blog by Sid Shuman, who also happens to be a social media manager at Sony.

Shuman shared, “Unfortunately this means that money cards, product vouchers, PlayStation Plus vouchers, PS3-PS4 upgrade vouchers and any other vouchers for digital content are not redeemable at this time. Other PSN features such as log in, online multiplayer gaming, PlayStation Plus trials, PlayStation Store (excluding voucher redemption), Trophies, messages, friends, etc are all available.”

It remains to be seen just why is Sony grappling with issues concerning their released vouchers, and this is definitely a case of solving it sooner rather than later being better for everyone. We do know, however, that when the PS4 was launched in Europe as well as in Australia and New Zealand, we brought you word that a couple of PSN features had been disabled but for a moment in order not to overload it. China To Send Probe To Moon On December 2

China To Send Probe To Moon On December 2 The space race seems to be on yet again, and this time around it would be China who wants to make a statement. In fact, the country is all set to launch a probe to the moon this coming December 2nd, and the probe will be known as the Chang’e-3, as it takes off from Xichang. Xichang happens to be a Chinese launch center when it comes to satellites, and it has one hurdle to pass – to end up on the moon’s surface a dozen days after taking off, which would be December 14th.

The moment Chang’e-3 lands, the probe which will hold a rover within will start to make its way across the surface of the moon. Given the moniker “Yutu”, this rover is touted to be able to drive itself in an autonomous manner, but there is also the option to control it thanks to the space program in China. Just how long will it “stay” on the moon? Well, we are looking at approximately 3 months here. The European Space Agency (ESA) will be assisting in guiding the probe from Kourou, French Guiana, via a station there. According to a retired astronaut, Thomas Reiter, “We are proud that the expertise of our ground station and flight dynamics teams and the sophisticated technologies of our worldwide Estrack network can assist China to deliver a scientifically important lander and rover to the Moon.”
