LG G2 Android 4.4 Update Apparently Rolled Out To A Fraction Of Owners In Korea

We recently reported that LG Korea had started to roll out the much awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update for its flagship smartphone in Korea. It appears that the company might have been conducting a soak test. Usually OEMs conduct soak tests with volunteers, they seed the update to a few people in order to be absolutely sure that there aren’t any issues with the update. Reports coming in from Korea suggest that the Android 4.4 update was only rolled out to five percent of all G2 owners in the country.

It is claimed that LG found no bug after the limited roll out of this update and that it has now given the go ahead to start releasing Android 4.4 KitKat for the remaining G2 owners in the country. There have been some reports from those who received the update that they’re noticing battery and browser problems on their devices, but the issues don’t appear to be plaguing everyone who received said update. LG Korea is expected to start releasing Android 4.4 to all G2 owners in Korea from next week. It is still not known when the company plans to finally release the hotly anticipated update in other major markets such as the U.S., certainly G2 owners Stateside would be itching to get their hands on some chocolatey goodness.

The Pirate Bay Uploads Soared 50 Percent Despite Rough Year

The Pirate Bay Uploads Soared 50 Percent Despite Rough Year

The Pirate Bay calls itself the world’s most “resilient” torrent website, and there’s truth to that claim. Copyright holders tried very hard to shut the notorious website down, but it persevered, even when it had to change its domain names six times. It even faced ISP blockades in a number of countries but that didn’t stop the site’s growth. Latest figures from TorrentFreak show that The Pirate Bay uploads surged 50 percent over the past year and it now plays host to more than 2.8 million files, video being the most shared category.

The blockades and crackdowns are meant to alienate the site to such an extent that it starts losing traffic, which would definitely hurt. Additional data shows that this year TPB’s traffic continued to grow despite its troubles with the law, the growth was in line with the surge in uploads. The number of torrents being uploaded have doubled as compared to nearly two years ago. The second most shared category on the website in Audio, trailed by porn, other, games and software. This it is quite evident that despite the war being waged against TPB, it continues to grow. The folks behind the website don’t seem to be in the mood to roll over, they’re putting their minds to safeguarding their future against takedowns and further blocking. Copyright holders certainly won’t give up as well, so this will be an interesting cat and mouse game to keep an eye on in 2014.

What if your main occupation was dreaming up fanciful, futuristic concept vehicles? If your name is Charles Bombardier, that’s exactly what you do.

The scion of Canada’s Bombardier, which manufactures planes and trains, Charles Bombardier recently showed off designs for his Arrow concept car, an electric two-seater that looks like a retro racing car.

It’s designed with a torpedo-shaped body and “a cockpit that opens up like a fighter jet to reveal tandem seats.”

Bombardier came up with the Arrow concept as a cool commuter vehicle that can also be used for weekend escapes.

Samsung Tablets Saw A Bigger Boost This Christmas

Samsung Tablets Saw A Bigger Boost This Christmas

The tablet market is very lucrative and very competitive. There are certain established players, like the Apple iPad, which command significant market share. Several OEMs make quite a few very popular Android tablets, such as the Nexus 7. As for which tablet saw the biggest boost this Christmas, Onswipe Chief Marketing Officer Jason Baptiste says that “Samsung clearly won Christmas when it comes to tablets.” Onswipe reaches over 31 million unique mobile users and it looked at optimized sites during December 26th and December 29th, comparing it with figures from December 19th to December 22nd.

The company found that Samsung Galaxy tablets saw a 50.4 percent growth and were trailed in second place by Nexus 7 tablets with 33.8 percent growth. iPads saw 20.4 percent whereas Kindle Fires were down in fourth place with 19.5 percent. It should be kept in mind that Onswipe has focused on percentage growth, which doesn’t necessarily mean that a particular tablet sold much better than the others during this period. Baptiste reveals that the averages session times from Samsung tablet users stood at 3 minutes and 9 seconds after December 25th as opposed to 3 minutes and 32 seconds for the previous period. iPads saw average session time drop to 4 minutes and 3 seconds as opposed to 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

Pet-Remote lets you communicate with your dog via an app

pet-remoteDo you sometimes wonder whether your pooch actually understands all that you want to say to it? I know, some dog owners swear that they have a telepathic link with their four legged friends, while others claim that their dog is oblivious to all that is going on around them. Here is a new and easy way to communicate with your dog – thanks to the new Pet-Remote. The Pet-Remote happens to be a tiny vibrating device which will be able to play nice in tandem with a free iPhone App. All you need to do is to push a single button, and the Pet-Remote will be able to vibrate or play an acoustic signal, which your dog should then follow the Pavlovian principle and do what it is supposed to!

Of course, owning the Pet-Remote without a dog is pretty much useless, although we would not recommend hooking it up to a cat or other kinds of animals. Basically, once you have downloaded the free Pet-Remote iPhone app, do remember to attach the device itself to your dog’s collar. This is the first step when it comes to training your dog, and it could not get any simpler.

Once the Pet-Remote App is launched on your smartphone, you can then go ahead and push one of the command buttons. The tiny device on your dog’s collar will then vibrate and/or play an acoustic signal, depending on which particular setting it has been assigned to. This would allow your pooch to feel or hear the signal, followed by a relevant and corresponding reaction. In the first place, however, you would need to teach your dog just what you expect him to do when he receives a signal. It does seem as though the Pet-Remote is a high class clicker, but I guess this is one Indiegogo project that would be worth checking out. The Pet-Remote device itself tips the scales at a mere 10 grams, and it has a battery that can last it an entire year, now how about that for energy efficiency?

Apple claims it ‘has never worked with the NSA’ to create backdoors in any of its products

While it may feel we’re more at the stage where we’re counting the parts of our digital lives that the NSA can’t access, the revelation yesterday that the agency had relatively deep access to iPhones was still a shock to many. Apple included, it …

Google Glass Invites Going Out To Play Music All Access Subscribers

Google Glass Invites Going Out To Play Music All Access Subscribers

Wearable devices are all the rage these days and there’s one device that has managed to generate a lot of hype. Google Glass, the internet search giant’s wearable device, is currently in an invite-only phase where people who wish to purchase a unit have to first receive an invite for the “Explorer” program. Initially only a limited number of invites were sent out but throughout the year Google has ramped up production of units and has opened up the program to new Explorers. A wave of customers will be joining the program soon as Google Glass invites are now going out to Google Play Music All Access subscribers.

The move comes after Google Play Music was released for Google Glass, allowing users to listen to their favorite music using either the bone transducer in the unit or the optional earbuds. A few weeks back Google also allowed existing Explorers to invite up to three friends to the program who would then have to purchase their own units. The company is certainly bringing more people on board the Glass project as it looks towards a public release in 2014. If you are one of the lucky Play Music All Access subscribers to receive an invite, bear in mind that you will have to shell out $1,500 plus tax for a unit and will need to be a U.S. resident in order to purchase it.
