Minecraft For The Nintendo Wii U Rumored To Be In The Works

Minecraft For The Nintendo Wii U Rumored To Be In The WorksMinecraft was originally released for the PC, but due to its popularity, the game eventually made its way onto platforms like the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and with over 33 million units of the game reportedly sold to date, it looks like the game is a huge success. However there are still platforms left to conquer, such as Nintendo’s Wii U platform, and according to recent rumors, it has been suggested that Minecraft could be making its way onto the Wii U in the future. This is based on an anonymous source who spoke to the folks at NintendoEnthusiast and claimed that Mojang, the developer of the game, had recently received development kits for the Wii U and had already begun developing the game for the console.

The rumors claim that the GamePad would be used as part of the game, and given that the GamePad is what makes the Wii U console unique, we guess this is sort of unsurprising. It is unclear what the GamePad could be used for, but it has been speculated that perhaps it could be used to manage one’s inventory or craft new objects. So far developers haven’t exactly been supportive of Nintendo’s Wii U platform, with big name developers having no plans to launch games for the platform, or in some cases have even been removed certain features that other platforms get access to. With Minecraft expected to make its way onto the Xbox One and PS4 come 2014, adding the Wii U to the list of supported platforms would no doubt expand its reach.

World Of Warcraft Hackers In China Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison

World Of Warcraft Hackers In China Sentenced To 2 Years In PrisonWorld of Warcraft accounts, and like many other online gaming accounts, are susceptible to hacks. This can happen either by players choosing bad passwords, or clicking on bad links which have been disguised to look like official links from Blizzard or a developer. Well the good news for those who have ever been hacked, justice has been somewhat served over in China where a group of ten men have been sentenced to prison for up to two years for hacking over 11,000 World of Warcraft accounts.

The team of hackers were led by two men, Chen and Zhu, who would hack World of Warcraft accounts and then extract all the gold and items found in each character, and then sell the rest on auction for $3, making it ideal for gamers looking to save time leveling up a high level character. By the time they were caught, Chen and Zhu reportedly managed to rake in around $10,800. While Chen was fined $8,000, his partners in crime were fined $1,000 each, while all of them received 2 years of prison each.

Hacking has been an issue with World of Warcraft and Blizzard has warned in the past that by purchasing gold, you could be encouraging hackers to hack accounts to steal the gold in which they then sell back to you. Granted it is possible that the gold is being farmed without hacking, but sometimes it is done through the use of bots which also goes against Blizzard’s ToS.

Oppo R1 Is Official, Will Cost Around $410

Oppo R1 Is Official, Will Cost Around $410After teasing the handset and seeing leaked photos, Oppo has officially taken the wraps off its brand new handset, the Oppo R1. Unlike the Oppo Find 7 which appears to pack some pretty impressive hardware, the Oppo R1 will instead focus more towards the camera side of things and looks to provide users with a smartphone camera that does well in low-light photography, allowing it to compete with the likes of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the LG G2, both of which are pretty impressive when it comes to snapping photos in low-light conditions.

The Oppo R1 will feature an 8MP rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture which should be wide enough to let light in without having to resort of flash. While we have yet to try it for ourselves, Oppo states that it is capable of delivering excellent images. As for the rest of the specs, the Oppo R1 will sport a 5” 720p HD display and will be powered by MediaTek’s MT6582 chipset clocked at 1.3GHz (quad-core). It will also come with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, a 2,410mAh battery, and will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The handset is priced around $410 but unfortunately Oppo did not mention if and when it might make its way stateside.

PKPKT Is A Bluetooth Game That Lets You Pickpocket From Bluetooth Phones

Want to commit a crime without actually doing it? That’s pretty much what PKPKT is looking to achieve. The game, despite for iPhones in mind, lets gamers “steal” from one another through the use of Bluetooth. The concept is similar to pickpocketing, hence the name PKPKT, where you will be able to “steal” money and items from nearby players who have the game and who might have left their Bluetooth on. Once the stealing has been successfully completed, gamers will be able to chat to one another through the same Bluetooth connection.

The good news for those worried about privacy is that the identities of the gamers are hidden, so you won’t be able to tell which phone stole from you. According to Jeremy Schoenherr, the game’s designer, “All that data lives nowhere except the two devices involved […] The app exchanges no personal information (there’s no link to Facebook, Twitter, etc.) so users can feel safe playing the game.” Schoenherr is also looking for ways to evolve and expand the game to make it more enjoyable long term.

As it stands PKPKT is a free download via the iTunes App Store, so if you’d like to put your iPhone’s Bluetooth to use, this is a pretty innovative game worth checking out. In the meantime you can get an idea of how it works in the video above.

Splitter Is A Headphone Splitter That Comes With Individual Volume ControlsHeadphone splitters are incredibly handy for sharing music, especially during travel where parents might give their kids an iPad or a laptop to share amongst themselves to keep them entertained during the trip. Rockstar Consortium Looking To Sell Off Some Of Their Patents

Rockstar Consortium Looking To Sell Off Some Of Their PatentsFor those unfamiliar with the Rockstar Consortium, they are a group of big tech companies consisting of Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony, and Ericsson, who have teamed up together to purchase patents from Nortel Networks which occurred back in 2011. Unfortunately it seems that the patents that they purchased were harder to license out than they thought which is why according to a report from Bloomberg, the consortium is allegedly looking to sell of a portion of the $4.5 billion worth of patents it had acquired a couple of years ago.

However on the flip side of things, Rockstar has managed to find use for several of its patents and have recently filed a lawsuit against the likes of Google and several of Google’s Android OEMs, claiming that they have infringed upon multiple patents. Naturally Google and the rest of the companies involved weren’t going to take this lying down, which is why we have recently reported that Google had filed a declaratory judgment against the Rockstar Consortium, accusing them of harassing them and for placing “a cloud” on Google’s Android platform. Are the folks at Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony, and Ericsson regretting their purchase of some of Nortel’s patents?

Google Files Complaint Over Rockstar Consortium

Google Files Complaint Over Rockstar ConsortiumThere is a patent consortium known as Rockstar whose name is rather appropriate given that it consists of companies such as Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony, and Ericsson. We have seen how they have tried to sue Google and other companies in the past over alleged patent infringements and it looks like Google is having none of it. The company has recently filed a declaratory judgment complaint where they are asking a San Jose court to rule that their company does not infringe on any of the seven patents that Rockstar claims that it does. According to the complaint, Google states, “Rockstar’s litigation campaign has placed a cloud on Google’s Android platform; threatened Google’s business and relationships with its customers and partners; as well as its sales of Nexus-branded Android devices.”

In the past we have seen how companies such as Apple and Microsoft go after Android manufacturers individually, and for the most part despite the whole “Mac versus PC” debate, Apple and Microsoft have never really had too much legal trouble with one another, although with the Rockstar patent group and the combined patents that they own, we expect that they could give other tech companies a whole lot of trouble and grief. It does seem a tad anti-competitive in nature but what do you guys think? Will the Rockstar group prevail, or will Google be able to beat them back?
