PS4 Has Already Won The Console Wars, Claims Industry Insider

ps4-xbox-one-pre-orderThe next-gen console wars should really be between the Nintendo Wii U, the Sony PlayStation 4, and the Microsoft Xbox One, but the reality is that the war is really between both Sony and Microsoft at the moment. As it stands both consoles are doing particularly well, with Sony taking the lead in some markets, and Microsoft taking the lead in other markets, but which console will prevail? While it remains a bit too early to tell, since both consoles only launched a few months ago, one particular industry insider by the name of Ashan Rasheed believes that Sony has pretty much won the war and that the Xbox One will forever be behind it.

According to Rasheed, “Xbox One will be behind all generation, and not buy [sic] some small trivial margin. It will be enough to show up distinctly in exclusives.” He then followed up with another tweet which seemed to suggest that Microsoft did not design the Xbox One with the future in mind. “The PS4 has more left in the tank that will start showing up going forward. It was designed with more forward thinking hardware choices.” Of course there’s really no way of telling who will “win” the console wars as there are many factors to take into consideration, such as price, exclusives, and given that consoles these days can do more than just play games, social features could also be taken into consideration as well, but what do you guys think? Will Sony’s PS4 win the console wars this generation?

Tim Cook Admits Low iPhone 5c Sales Was Unexpected

official-iphone-5c-1The iPhone 5c is Apple’s answer to a cheaper iPhone. When we say cheaper we don’t mean more affordable because while it is cheaper than the iPhone 5s, it is not necessarily an affordable handset, at least not compared to other smartphones out there in the market. That being said it seems that sales of the iPhone 5c aren’t what Apple expected, something that Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, admitted himself. Speaking at Apple’s quarterly earnings conference call, Cook said that the sales of the iPhone 5c “turned out to be different than we thought.” While he declined to provide a breakdown, he admitted that the iPhone 5c accounted for a smaller percentage of total iPhone sales than expected.

While he remained mum on what Apple plans to do with the lineup in the future, Cook did not rule out the possibility that they might make some changes down the road. We’re not sure if this means an even cheaper iPhone 5c, or axing the lineup entirely, which was what previous rumors suggested when they said that Apple will no longer keep the lineup. According to Cook, he believes that the lure to the iPhone 5s could be what attributed to the iPhone 5c’s poor sales. “I think the 5s, people are really intrigued with Touch ID. It’s a major feature that has excited people. And I think that associated with the other things that are unique to the 5s, got the 5s to have a significant amount more attention and a higher mix of sales.”

What do you guys think? Will you be sad to see the iPhone 5c lineup go if Apple really plans on dropping it entirely?

Official MEGA App Arrives For BlackBerry

megaGood news BlackBerry users, if you have been waiting for the MEGA file sharing site’s app to arrive on your platform, it now has in an official version. Prior to this, the MEGA app was only available as an Android port meaning that you’d have to know how to sideload the app onto your BlackBerry device if you wish to use it. Not exactly the most user friendly method but it is possible. The only difference is that now the developers behind the app have made an official port onto the BlackBerry platform, meaning that you will be able to head on over to the BlackBerry World website in order to get your hands on it.

For those unfamiliar with MEGA, this is a file sharing website launched by notorious former Megaupload owner, Kim Doctor, which was also launched in response to Megaupload shutting down. According to its description, “MEGA is a secure cloud storage service that gives you 50GB for free. Unlike other cloud storage providers, your data is encrypted and decrypted by the client devices only and never by us. Your data is accessible any time, from any device, anywhere. Share folders with your contacts and see their updates in real time.” In any case the app itself is free so hit up BlackBerry World for the download!

Flatulent cows make shed explode, report says

    Danger. Gas emissions.

(Credit: Compassion in World Farming/YouTube screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET)

I understand that cows are largely to blame for global warming.

However, I never imagined that the seemingly life-weary animals had an explosion in them.

Life has a way of surprising you, so I am fascinated to learn that the anal emissions of 90 cows are said to have caused a fire in a German shed.

As Reuters reports, these cows were cooped up together and the products of their flatulence had nowhere to emerge.

Nikon Reportedly Replacing Some D600 Cameras With D610 Units

d610Back in 2013, Nikon announced a new DSLR camera in the form of the Nikon D610. The camera was not exactly a huge upgrade over the Nikon D600 which was announced back in 2012, but one of the main things that it did was to solve the issue of dust particles landing on the sensor of the camera which we can only imagine is quite annoying when trying to take a photo, or having photos ruined because of a speck of dust. Now it does seem a little bit unfair that Nikon D600 owners still have to stick to their cameras, unless of course they’re willing to spend more money and get the D610, but it looks like Nikon could be replacing some D600 units with D610 for either free or for a small fee.

This is according to the folks at Nikon Rumors who have been receiving reports from Europe and the US where Nikon  has been replacing their D600 cameras with D610 units when they send them in for repair or cleaning, and in some instances, customers were charged a small fee if they wanted to upgrade from the D600 to the D610. We’re not sure how Nikon determines if a customer is eligible for an upgrade to the D610. It could depend on how many times you have come in for a sensor cleaning, or it could be dependent on how new your D600 unit was. In any case this seems like a departure from Nikon’s standard operating procedure in which they basically replace the shutter mechanism for D600 units.

Heavy drinking hits men’s brains harder than women’s, study says

    (Credit: CBS)

Maybe the average man can get away with drinking more in one sitting than the average woman. But in the long run, that may not be an advantage.

In a paper titled “Alcohol consumption and cognitive decline in early old age,” and published online this month in Neurology, researchers used a long-term study of British workers to examine the association between alcohol consumption in midlife and subsequent cognitive decline in both men and women. It seems gender may play a role in the effects of alcohol consumption on the brain.

“Our study based on middle-aged participants suggests that heavy drinking is associated with faster decline in all cognitive domains in men,” the paper stated. “In women, there was only weak evidence that heavy drinking was associated with a faster decline in executive function.” In fact, not drinking for 10 years was associated with a faster cognitive decline for women, but don’t take that as a recommendation to drink heavily. The researchers point out that there are other demographic factors involved, such as race and income.

The researchers drew on the Whitehall II study, established in 1985 by Professor Sir Michael Marmot at University College London, which in… [Read more]
