Analyst Makes The Case For An 11.8 Inch MacBook Air

macbook-pro-air-refresh

Over the past few weeks we have covered many rumors about upcoming Apple products, there hasn’t been much talk about a new MacBook Air. Its likely that Apple is going to released a refreshed lineup of its notebooks at some point later this year, but what’s unclear at this point in time is that whether it will also offer an entirely new display size just so the Air lineup can also jump on the retina display bandwagon. Analyst Daniel Matte certainly thinks so, he believes that an 11.8 inch MacBook Air makes perfect sense for Apple.

Theremini helps theremin beginners not sound terrible

A render of the upcoming Theremini.

    (Credit: Moog)

I tried to play a theremin once. I sounded awful, like the soundtrack to “The Day the Earth Stood Still” had caught fire and crash-landed into the Bermuda Triangle. It’s easy to get noise out of a Theremin, but hard to make great music with one. Famed synthesizer brand Moog has a solution designed to ease the instrument’s learning curve.

The Theremini is a theremin with pitch correction. You can choose a scale and root note and let the machine help keep you in tune as you flail your hands about. You can also set the range, choosing the highest and lowest notes. It comes with a headphone jack so you can learn the instrument without annoying anyone within hearing range.

The process is further helped along with a built-in tuner to guide you in learning pitch and scales. Pretty soon, you should be in shape to compose your own sci-fi soundtrack. I would recommend re-scoring the entire “Star Trek” canon as an exercise.

Android 4.4 KitKat update might have arrived in record time for the Moto X back when it was first released, but Motorola’s flagship smartphone was overshadowed by its younger sibling which became the first of the company’s mobile devices to receive the Android 4.4.2 update. GoogleX – Now Keeping a Watchful EYE on your Glucose Levels

    140117073634-google-contact-lens-620xa

The statistics are staggering, The International Diabetes Federation estimates that at least 382 million people worldwide are living with diabetes right now, and unfortunately, that number is likely to increase to around 592 million sometime in the next 20 years. Thats a lot of blood sugar monitoring, which involves painful and time consuming finger sticks…

Now GoogleX developers (think driverless cars and Google Glass) just announced on January 16, 2014,  a new product with the goal of allowing diabetics to continually check their glucose levels using a novel, non-intrusive method, the Google Contact Lens.

The contact lens uses a tiny processing chip and a specialized glucose sensor, in conjunction with an antenna that is actually thinner than a human hair. When this contact is worn, the sensor detects glucose levels in the wearer’s tears, taking readings once per second, with the transmitter sending these readings to an external device. Imagine, constant feedback on your glucose levels, no pokes required.

We have reported on the ability to monitor sugar levels with tears, but this GoogleX technology takes the idea to a whole new level. Google reports that they’re in discussions with the FDA, but that there’s still a lot of work to be done before they can turn this technology into a system that people can use. Early estimates seem to suggest it could be as long as 10 years, but I wonder if the sheer power of Google might muscle things along a bit faster than that. We can hope, can’t we?

Plush Kitten Bouquet Lets You Say It with Kitties

I am not a fan of Valentine’s Day. My wife always wants something expensive or changes her mind 57 times until I can’t remember what she wanted and I give up. I stopped buying flowers because the evil florists up the price of roses so much during the lead up to V-Day and the things will cut you with thorns and die in two days anyway.

I think I am going to go with the Plush Kitten Bouquet this year.

This is just about what it sounds like. You can give your lady nine plush kittens. Being plush they are much more docile than real kittens, which wouldn’t likely appreciate being mounted on sticks, or shipped via UPS for that matter.

The kitties can be removed from the sticks so you still have evidence six months down the road that you actually bought your girl a gift. The kitty bouquet is available now for $49.99(USD), which is cheaper than a dozen real roses in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day.

Another day, another round of leaks from former CIA technical analyst Edward Snowden. This man blew the whistle on U.S. National Security Agency’s electronic spying programs, and he continues to leak highly classified documents. Documents provided to The New York Times, The Guardian and ProPublica reveal that the NSA has been siphoning off personal data through popular mobile applications, internally referred to as “leaky apps.” Apparently the NSA has collaborated with its British counterpart on this program, the Government Communications Headquarter or GCHQ.
