Earlier this month during CES 2014, Samsung took the wraps off their Galaxy Pro series of tablets, such as the Galaxy Note Pro and Galaxy Tab Pro. However despite the devices being announced, availability is still a question Samsung has yet to answer, but perhaps all will be revealed come Valentines Day. This is according to a leaked internal Samsung memo which seems to suggest that the South Korean tech giant might have something big to announce. The memo seems directed towards Samsung’s field reps and employees that work in Samsung pop-up shops, suggesting that this might have to do with a product release rather than a product announcement, like the Galaxy S5 which was rumored for a pre-MWC announcement.
In any case it will be nice to see the tablets made available, especially given that some of the tablets announced do pack some pretty impressive hardware, which is nice change on Samsung’s part whose previous tablet offerings have hovered between low-end to mid-ranged, making it difficult to compete against the likes of other tablets offered by other Android OEMs and of course Apple’s iPad. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information regarding the Galaxy Pro series’ release, so be sure to check back with us in the near future for more updates! In the meantime who’s planning on getting their hands on Samsung’s latest series of tablets?

The Google Nexus lineup is basically Google’s answer for customers who want the stock Android experience with decent hardware that does not come at a steep price. This is because Google can afford to offer huge subsidies on their devices, which in turn probably does not sit too well with Android OEMs who might find it harder to compete. Well it looks like in what appears to be a rather shocking rumor is that Google could be dropping the Nexus lineup come 2015. Instead Google will replace the Nexus lineup with Play Edition devices instead, although the name is also expected to be rebranded by then.
This is according to notorious leaker, Eldar Murtazin, who made those claims on his Twitter account where he wrote, “Nexus line by Google is over in 2015 Yes – this line will be replaced by Play Edition (current name, it will be rebranded)” As it stands there are several different Play Edition handsets being offered by Google at the moment, such as the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4. These devices are basically the same as their regular counterparts but will run on stock Android instead. We’re not sure what is Google’s motivation behind this move, if true, but hopefully there will still be affordable devices available. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys make of this rumor? Possible?

If you’re looking to get your hands on a tablet that is affordable, devices like the Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX could just be what the doctor ordered, but if you still think that those devices are a little out of your budget and you’re not looking for anything too exciting, Sprint might have something for you in the form of the ZTE Optik 2, the successor to the ZTE Optik that was launched back in 2012 which also made its way onto Sprint’s network. Sprint has recently announced that the tablet will be available for purchase through Sprint’s Web Sales and Business Sales and will be priced at a very affordable $29.99, although it does require you to enter into a new two-year agreement with the carrier.
Then again if wanted a tablet with mobile internet connectivity as well, we guess signing a contract might not be such a bad deal after all. In terms of hardware specs, the ZTE Optik 2 will feature a 7” display with a resolution of 1280×800. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 4,000mAH battery, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, and will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It’s not the sleekest or the most powerful Android tablet we’ve seen, but it will get the job done for those whose interest is more towards going online rather than running intensive programs.

ASUS PadFone E Launches In Taiwan
Posted in: Today's ChiliEarlier this month ASUS announced the PadFone X and the PadFone Mini, but as it turns out it looks like AT&T has more devices up their sleeves because over in Taiwan, ASUS has officially launched the ASUS PadFone E, which based on its specs, appears to be a device that sits in between the higher-end PadFone X and the lower-end PadFone Mini, although given its release in Taiwan we’re not sure if ASUS plans on bringing the device over to the US or to other international markets around the world. Its pricing in Taiwan is at around $560 and while it has not been confirmed, it seems that the device could begin making its international rounds in March, although hopefully we will hear an official confirmation from ASUS themselves soon or maybe during MWC 2014.
In terms of hardware, the ASUS PadFone E will pack a 4.7” 720p HD display on the phone device, while the tablet will feature a 10” 1280×800 display instead. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM, Adreno 305 graphics, 16GB of onboard storage, 3G/HSPA+ connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, GPS, and will run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Battery for the phone is at 1,820mAh while the tablet will sport a slightly more beefy 5,000mAh battery.

It seems that AT&T can’t catch a break these days when it comes to bidding on other companies. According to our report from earlier, it seemed that AT&T was willing to bid for UK carrier, Vodafone, and was willing to pay as much as $80 billion for the company. Unfortunately it seems that was not the case as AT&T has since released a statement announcing that they do not have any intentions of making a bid on Vodafone. Apparently this in accordance to the UK’s laws, in particular the UK Takeover Code in which it requires companies, such as AT&T, to release a written statement in which they basically announce their intentions. This is versus other countries where acquisitions are usually announced once the deal has concluded, as opposed to at the beginning before anything transpires.
According to the statement, “At the request of the UK Takeover Panel, AT&T confirms that it does not intend to make an offer for Vodafone. Accordingly, AT&T is bound by the restrictions under Rule 2.8 of the UK Takeover Code (the “Code”).” However AT&T also noted that it is possible, under the rule, that they reserve the right to announce and make a possible offer within 6 months of this announcement, although we’re not sure if this is merely clarification on AT&T’s part of if they might be suggesting that them making a bid would not be out of the question. In any case any UK readers out there happy/disappointed that AT&T will not be attempting to bid on Vodafone?

It’s interesting that despite Microsoft’s impending acquisition of Nokia that there are rumors floating about that Nokia could still go ahead and launch their Android handset. We have been hearing the rumors about the Nokia Normandy, which has also been referred to as Nokia X, and how it is possible that Nokia might make the handset official at MWC 2014 which is taking place in February. As if to confirm that the device will actually go on sale, a Vietnamese website called The Gioididong has put the handset up on its website as a listing, although it cannot be bought yet, and has also seemingly “confirmed” some of the rumored specs we have been hearing about all this while.
