I can’t believe these crappy Star Wars props looked so great in movies

I can't believe these crappy Star Wars props looked so great in movies

We’ve really come a long, long way when it comes to special effects in movies. It makes sense that today’s movies look great because of all our computer whiz processing power animation software. Back in the old days though? We had to rely on the magic of the movies. Seriously. Turning scale models that look like toys that kids wouldn’t even want into gorgeous, timeless movie sequences takes real magic to pull off.

Robo-Tongue Knows Its Beers

Robo Tongue Knows Its BeersRobots do seem to be in the spotlight lately, and in this case, scientists from Spain have come up with a robotic “tongue” that is able to identify the difference between various types of beer. This particular robotic tongue is already nearly 82 percent accurate whenever it takes a swig of various brews. Drawing inspiration from nature as usual, the scientists have decided to make this robotic tongue feature 21 ion-selective electrodes to base it on the same way which we taste. This would function as a sensor array, where each of the 21 ion-selective electrodes would be able to play a role in determining the different levels of particular elements that are present in each beer.

    Yahoo Mail Accounts Breached Again

Yahoo Mail Accounts Breached Again I don’t think that companies see themselves getting hacked at least once as a badge of honor. No sir, it is actually a testament that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and in the case of Yahoo Mail which has just been breached recently (the number of accounts breached were not revealed) after this news came to light today, one ought to wonder whether it is time to settle for different methods of communication if security is of the utmost importance. Those who were affected users have already been notified by Yahoo, where they claim that they are doing all in their power to track down those behind this hack, and to re-secure breached accounts.

    Intel AppUp Bids Adieu

Intel AppUp Bids AdieuIntel has decided to close the doors to AppUp, and here is what they had to say about the situation. “At Intel, we’re always thinking about the future, which often means making changes today. That’s why, on March 11th, 2014, Intel AppUp center will come to a close as we focus on developing new and exciting PC innovations that will continue to shape your world. As excited as we are about the future projects, we know AppUp is important to you. For questions about AppUp‘s closure, please visit our updated FAQ section with links to guided support to answer your questions.” You will be able to drop by the FAQ page if you have any further questions or want to know more about the situation. First launched in 2010, the AppUp store was meant to be a Windows app superstore to help out the likes of Ultrabooks, and manufacturers can choose to pre-install it in Atom-powered PCs. Unfortunately, it looks like there isn’t enough momentum to carry AppUp through the years, which has led to such a situation.

Red Nexus 5 Could Launch On February 4

Red Nexus 5 Could Launch On February 4There has been much that had been said about the upcoming Nexus 5 which will arrive in a shade of bright red, making us wonder whether this is some sort of Nokia creation instead. After all, Nokia’s collection of Lumia smartphones tend to lean more on the colorful, plastic side. We have seen extra red Nexus 5 photos make an appearance online already, which can only mean one thing – the real deal should be well on its way to roll out. The latest leaked screenshot of Sprint’s internal Playbook did point out that the red version of the Nexus 5 will be introduced to the masses this coming February 4th. Do bear in mind that nothing has been made official to date, so take it with a grain of salt.

Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Lets You Fly Solo Only

Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor Lets You Fly Solo OnlyMiddle Earth: Shadow of Mordor was announced in November last year, and I am quite sure that many people are looking forward to immerse themselves in the world of Tolkien yet again, albeit in a detached digital manner. This particular title is touted to arrive on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 as well as the PC platform, being a third person perspective game. The thing is, if you are a lone wolf in life and always like to soak up all of the glory for yourself, then you would most probably find Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor to be agreeable to you when it arrives. After all, it is a single player game only, which means that there will be no other way for you to beat the game with your friends, unless you all take up the “hot seat” system.

QuakeCon 2014 Kicks Off This July 17

QuakeCon 2014 Kicks Off This July 17Ah, Quake. I clearly remember how that game actually introduced me to the entire world of binding keys to various weapons from the drop down console itself. It has opened up my eyes to the effectiveness of a rocket jump, not to mention making me a math monkey as I had to make the armor runs between the red and the green in DM6 – The Dark Zone so that the opponent would not be able to stand much of a chance. My other favorite map was The Bad Place (DM4), and I loathed the slow weapon change speed in Quake 2 and Quake 3, relatively speaking, of course. Then there was QuakeCon as well, which has certainly evolved over the years. In this day and age, QuakeCon happens to be Bethesda and id Software’s public event which has been dated – where it will happen at the end of July, from Thursday, July 17 all the way to Sunday, July 20.

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Gets Software Update

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Gets Software UpdateSony did make an announcement over its official Twitter account that they have lined up a brand new software update for the the Sony Xperia Z1 as well as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. This particular update will not be the Android 4.4 KitKat release that many would have been looking forward to, but I guess this is where the second law of updates apply – any update is better than no update at all, right? After all, this particular update from Sony would arrive with a bunch of new features that will hopefully be able to make a positive impact and difference to the end user.
