Spotify Lets Artists Sell Merchandise For Free

Spotify Lets Artists Sell Merchandise For Free

There is a lot of competition between music streaming services, given the fact that the market is being catered to by a wide variety of services. Spotify has established itself as a major player in this particular market, it boasts over 24 million users and continues to grow. In a bid to attract more artists, which in turn is likely to bring in more listeners, Spotify now lets artists sell their merchandise for free. The music streaming service is not going to charge a commission on sales, whatever money artists make by selling merchandise, they’ll get all of it.

To make this happen, Spotify has teamed up with a company called Topspin. To start selling merchandise, artists need to create a Topspin ArtistLink account and verify their identity by either linking a social media account or by directly emailing the company. Once verified, they can create listings by adding images, title, description and URL to various items in their existing merchandise store. Each merchandise listing will need approval, but it should show up in Spotify’s artist pages within 28 hours. While artists from all around the globe can list items, only Spotify users based in English speaking countries such as U.S., UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland will be able to purchase merchandise for now. Spotify says that it will include additional language support in the future.

AT&T LG G Flex Pre-Orders Go Live On January 24

AT&T LG G Flex Pre Orders Go Live On January 24

Notwithstanding the fact that Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to announce that it will carry the “self-healing” LG G Flex smartphone, AT&T has pushed itself ahead of the proverbial curve by announcing today that it will offer G Flex pre-orders starting January 24th. That’s a full week before Sprint is due to take its G Flex pre-orders on January 31st. AT&T is offering the G Flex smartphone for $299 with a two year contract. Customers have the option to purchase the smartphone on the carrier’s 12 and 18 month Next plans, they will have to pay $34.75 and $26.74 per month, respectively.

Announced last year, the G Flex has made quite a name for itself, thanks in part to the 6-inch 1,280×720 pixel resolution OLED curved display. It has a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor under the hood coupled with 2GB of RAM. Customers will be able to get up to 32GB of onboard storage, apart from a 13 megapixel rear camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and a 3,500mAh battery. AT&T is yet to reveal exactly when it will start delivering the G Flex to customers to place pre-orders on the 24th. Those who wish to go the “uncarrier” route will have to wait on T-Mobile to reveal the release date for its G Flex variant.

Mars rover spies mysterious ‘jelly doughnut’ rock

These images show the same area before and after the rock appeared.

Mars is full of surprises, like misinterpreted photographs of Elvis’ face in a rock formation and the discovery of conditions that may have been suited to ancient life on the planet.

Now the Opportunity rover has stumbled on something else weird: a rock shaped like a jelly doughnut. This might not be strange in itself, except that the rock just sort of popped up. It wasn’t there and then it was.

Opportunity, Curiosity’s pioneering cousin, has been busy on Mars for 10 years. The oddball rock was brought to the public’s attention at an anniversary event for the rover by NASA scientist Steve Squyres. “It’s about the size of a jelly doughnut. It was a total surprise, we were like, ‘Wait a second, that wasn’t there before, it can’t be right. Oh my god! It wasn’t there before!’ We were absolutely startled,” Squyres told Discovery News.

Onewheel is a self-balancing skateboard that will let you soar on the streets

    Onewheel
Riding a bicycle or skateboard to and from your destinations is an environmentally friendly and healthy way to travel. However, not everyone possesses the skills necessary to balance themselves atop two wheels or a board. If you like the idea, but don’t think it’s possible for you, then you’ve likely looked into some other people-mover options that can balance themselves, and don’t require gas for fuel.

The Onewheel is one such option, but is far more portable and looks cooler than a Segway. This resembles a skateboard, but only has one go-kart type wheel in the middle. It can balance itself, and thanks to it’s cushy wheel you won’t feel any bumps or protuberances while on the road or sidewalk. Those who have ridden it say it’s similar to riding on a wave or fresh snow. It’s capable of going up to twelve miles per hour, and your speed is controlled by leaning forward or backward. Should you choose, you can even go in reverse!

It only takes 2 hours to recharge, and as it is minute-for-minute recharging, I assume that’s also its battery life. There is a fast charging cable available that will juice up the Onewheel in about 20 minutes, but it will undoubtedly cost more. It has a weight limit of around 250 pounds, and can’t go on an incline larger that 10%, as the front of the board goes down to move forward. This will cost you around $1,400, and is currently a successful crowdfunding campaign.

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Released To Developers

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Released To Developers

Apple is yet to roll out a major update for iOS 7. Ever since the firmware was publicly released in September 2013, the company has rolled out a few incremental updates to fix bugs and various issues, but so far no major update has graced users’ devices. That might change within a few weeks, as beta 4 of iOS 7.1 has finally been seeded to developers. iOS 7.1 has been making the rounds in beta stage for a few months now, this update is expected to bring user interface tweaks.

Moments ago Apple seeded iOS 7 beta 4 to registered developers, who can now download the latest firmware on their devices and go about finding any bugs or issues that need to be fixed. It is available over-the-air for developers already running a previous beta of iOS 7.1, it comes in at 112MB. Apple only seeds beta firmware to registered developers, these firmware files are not open to the public, they actually can’t be installed on an iOS device that hasn’t been registered as a developer device. The changelog only notes that this new iOS 7.1 beta comes with bug fixes and improvements, we should hear more about the changes once developers have had ample time to go through it. Apple today also released Apple TV software beta 4 and Xcode 5.1 beta 4.
