Rosetta—the first man-made spaceship designed to intercept and land on an comet—is alive and well. It just sent its first signal to the world after going into sleep mode 31 months ago. Scientists were anxious, hoping that the computer and the interplanetary probe would alright. All systems: nominal.

Regardless of where you are or what you’re doing, there is always a deadline looming overhead. You can let it get to you and worry about it constantly, or chip away at your work over time so that it can’t best you. Of course, switching to work mode isn’t always as easy pulling out your laptop. Many people need a quiet place to work, or at least the visual aspect of a workstation to let them focus.
Looking like nothing more than an expensive laptop bag, La Fonction can be a portable workstation for those who need one. It’s made of leather and textiles, and folds out to resemble a desk space. This will let you work away in private, even if you’re in a public space. It was inspired from early photographers and their need to protect themselves from light. There are several micro-partitions that will block off the hubbub of movement and light in your peripheral vision.
It has space for your laptop, phone, pens, paper, and even has a detachable pouch for all of your cables. Although, as it can be removed, make sure you don’t place all of your charging cords off to the side and forget about them. That would be a little bit more than problematic in the day or two to follow. This will cost you around $1,000, if not more should you want a custom creation.

What Is Real ID?
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs of today, the Real ID Act—which will require all US IDs to meet minimum federal security standards—enter the first stage of its multi-year enforcement. That has a lot of people pretty nervous; whether legislators use the term or not, it smells an awful lot like a national ID card. But what is Real ID, exactly?

Want to start a pity party of your own? That might be the case after you hear that a South Korean carrier has plans to introduce their very own LTE-A network before the year is over, where it will sport a connection that is capable of delivering a whopping 300Mbps. Of course, 300Mbps here is a theoretical figure as usual, whereas the real life performance of this mobile carrier would differ, depending on what is going on at the backend at that point in time. Not only that, just when you were feeling smug about your new 75Mbps LTE connection, along comes this 300Mbps whopper.

Spend a morning or two with “Sesame Street” and you should have all the skills you need to crack the passwords of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of online accounts worldwide. This according to a new list of the worst passwords of 2013 from security-focused developer SplashData that lists “123456” as the most common and new worst password on the Internet, unseating “password,” which topped the previous year’s list.
The list was compiled from data dumps of stolen passwords posted online, and the firm says it was especially influenced by the millions of Adobe accounts that were compromised in the fall. Stricture Consulting Group attempted to decrypt the leaked Adobe passwords and released an estimate that almost 2 million of the more than 130 million users affected by the breach appeared to be using “123456” as a password.

Up till now the lowest customers could pay for a Verizon share data plan was $40, which got them 500MB of data per month. Big Red is going to add a new tier tomorrow which will be offered for both smartphone and feature phone users. The new Verizon shared data plan offers 250MB for $20 per month and it can be coupled with a $30 per month feature phone basic plan or with the $40 smartphone access monthly fee. The carrier says that this new tier will only be available for a limited time, though it hasn’t clarified just for how long this new plan is going to be offered.
In this day and age, smartphones are very popular. For most smartphone users, 250MB of data is peanuts. Power users can blow through that in less than a day, Verizon estimates that an average user on its network uses between 1 and 2GB of data every month. So in order to avoid Big Red’s $15 overage charge for every 200MB that exceeds the bucket, customers will be better off with a tier that offers more data for a higher monthly fee. AT&T has a similar offering, the lowest data plan available costs $25 and brings 300MB per month, though that too might prove to be inadequate for the connected smartphone user.
