HP Windows 7 PCs Are Back By ‘Popular Demand’

HP Windows 7 PCs Are Back By Popular Demand

Windows 8 wasn’t adopted as enthusiastically as Windows 7. The public has different opinions about the former, some dislike the touch UI and say that it shouldn’t have been introduced for desktop PCs, where some like the new UI changes that Microsoft has made. Microsoft might have relied upon OEM partners to push its latest Windows iteration through their products, which would definitely help in increasing adoption as well as shaping public opinion about Windows 8. However, HP has sided with the majority that favors Windows 7. The manufacturer says on the front page of its website that by “popular demand,” it has decided to bring back Windows 7 PCs.

HP hasn’t just brought back computers powered by Windows 7, it is actually offering an incentive to customers who opt for these PCs. Up to $150 in savings are being offered to customers who purchased a computer with the last-generation OS instead. This move by HP isn’t that surprising to be honest, with rumors circulating that internally Microsoft employees refer to Windows 8 as “the new Vista,” this was bound to happen at some point in time. We all know how badly Vista performed in the market. Recent rumors also suggest that Microsoft might talk about Windows 9 at its BUILD conference in April, with a possible release in April 2015. The company is reportedly looking to give up on the Windows 8 brand and start afresh.

Pac-Man Monster Truck: Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Wakka! Wakka! Wakka!

A while back, toy modder KodyKoala built an epic Yoshi mech and an equally awesome Luigi. I was poking around over on Etsy this morning when I stumbled onto another great build by Kody.

pac man monster truck 1 620x477magnify

The vehicle is a mashup of a Pac-Man bank and a non-functional R/C 4×4, among other bits. I’m not sure what the deal is with the bunny rabbit sidekick though.

pac man monster truck 2 620x474magnify

I’m pretty sure if Pac-Man had this monster truck in the maze, he would have been able to run down every ghost, whether blue any other color for that matter.

pac man monster truck 3 620x413magnify

Unfortunately, the Pac-Man Monster Truck was a custom build for a customer and has already been sold. I’m hoping to convince Kody to build a massive Q*bert with wings, so it could fly over that entire pyramid and skip the whole swearing thing.

China Could Wash Away Smog With Artificial Rain Storms From Skyscrapers

Airborne pollution is a major issue in China, with local hospitals opening up "smog clinics" and waves of city-dwellers migrating to more rural areas to escape. While Chinese officials are pursuing "cloud seeding" as a way to control pollution, a Zhejiang University professor thinks he has a better idea: Sprinklers. Big ones.

HTC M8 UA Prof FIle PublishedIt looks like HTC has already published the UA Prof file for the HTC M8, which is better known as the next version of the HTC One as it takes over the position of being a flagship device for the beleaguered smartphone company. Steve Ballmer To Resign From Microsoft Board Once New CEO Is Appointed [Report]

Steve Ballmer To Resign From Microsoft Board Once New CEO Is Appointed [Report]

Last year Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced that he would be giving up the top job at Redmond within 12 months. So far his successor has not been appointed, though there has been endless speculation about who is going to fill Ballmer’s shoes. It certainly won’t be an easy task, Microsoft has only ever had two CEOs in its entire history, Gates and Ballmer. Both of them have a seat on the board, which was reportedly irking many candidates who were in the running for the CEO slot. Perhaps the board might have convinced Ballmer to let go, as re/code reports, he might resign once a new CEO is appointed, thus ending his direct involvement with the company and its board of directors.

Nest CEO Tony Fadell Promises That Future Privacy Policy Changes Will Be ‘Opt-In’

Nest CEO Tony Fadell Promises That Future Privacy Policy Changes Will Be Opt In

Not too long ago word broke that the company behind popular wireless smart thermostats, Nest, had been acquired by Google for $3.2 billion. This is actually one of Google’s most expensive acquisitions, its right up there with YouTube and Motorola. Despite the fact that the Nest team is now part of a much bigger company with significantly more resources, not a lot of people are happy about the acquisition, in fact some have heavily criticized it due to privacy concerns. Addressing those concerns, Nest CEO Tony Fadell has revealed that any future changes to the company’s privacy policy will be opt-in, and that Nest will be “transparent” about the changes made to the privacy policy.

Fadell made these comments at the DLD Conference in Munich. He said that right now no changes are planned, and that all user data will remain in “Nest’s world.” Though he doesn’t rule out the possibility of changes being made to the privacy policy down the line entirely, saying that whatever changes are made, Nest will be transparent about it and that customers will be able to opt-in to them if they want to. Its not hard to understand why Fadell wants these concerns to subside, part of the reason why Nest would have agreed to an acquisition would be the opportunity to expand exponentially, and with Google writing the cheques, its going to be a lot easier than ever before.
