European Spacecraft Set To Rendezvous With Comet

European Spacecraft Set To Rendezvous With CometFancy a date in outer space? Granted, a meeting between two inanimate objects would not be considered to be a ‘date’ per se, but rather, a meeting. However, what we are going to talk about is no ordinary meeting, as this is the one which might just see humankind learn more about the vast universe that we live in. An unmanned European spacecraft is tipped to be activated on Monday from being dormant, where it will begin to work on making a rendezvous with a comet happen.

Hot Carbon Nanotubes Could Increase Solar Panel Efficiency

Hot Carbon Nanotubes Could Increase Solar Panel EfficiencyThe smart minds over at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are on the lookout to increase the level of efficiency that solar cells currently have, and in order to do so, they would need to assist these solar cells to take greater advantage of the sun’s rays. These MIT scientists are currently testing out solar cells with a layer of carbon nanotubes which is touted to “make it possible to take advantage of wavelengths of light that ordinarily go to waste,” at least according to a statement which was issued from MIT itself.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Firmware Update Arrives Only To Select Users

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Firmware Update Arrives Only To Select UsersIt was sometime in early December last year that Microsoft introduced a firmware update for the Microsoft Surface Pro 2, but had to take it down shortly after that because the firmware update actually ended up giving users more problems than benefits. At that point in time, Microsoft did mention that they would make sure that they fixed all that was wrong with that update after the holidays, it is nice to see the software giant keep to their word after rolling out a new bug fix that more or less squashed all of the previous issues. Among the issues fixed include a longer lasting battery life, and not having the Surface Pro 2 shut down completely when the cover was closed, but instead, enter sleep mode.

Microsoft has announced that they are working on releasing the replacement firmware update to the original for those who installed the faulty firmware update only, as folks who did not install the earlier update last month will not be on the receiving end of the January patch. The principle of “better late than never” applies here yet again, and good things always come to those who wait. Does it not give you a nice and warm fuzzy feeling deep down inside whenever companies stick to their plans and word?

Here is what Microsoft had to say about the situation, “This weekend we released an update that addresses the unexpected wake and battery drain behavior experienced by a small number of Surface Pro 2 customers who installed the December Windows Update. This should have no impact on customers who had not received the December update. We are working hard to deliver the rest of the December update to those customers who had not received it prior to it being removed from distribution.”

BlackBerry Consists Nearly All Of New Pentagon Management System

BlackBerry Consists Nearly All Of New Pentagon Management SystemThe Pentagon has a spanking new management system which will kick off this January 31st, where this particular initiative has been specially designed so that their staff will lower their dependence on tethered workstations, and will focus more on the use of mobile devices instead. The whole idea behind this revamp would require a $16 million plan to kick into action, ensuring that up to 300,000 military users do not end up leaking military data as well as corrupt military networks while they are on the move. BlackBerry has stepped up to the plate for this task, which we can read about it more right after the jump.

Spreadsheets Updated In Real-Time With EditGrid

This article was written on November 06, 2006 by CyberNet.

    EditGrid

EditGrid may sound like your typical online spreadsheet application like Google and Zoho offer, but it has a little twist. EditGrid allows users to edit documents in Real-time with other users. That means if you make a change on a spreadsheet it will immediately be reflected on the other person’s PC. That isn’t a feature that is truly unique to them, but there is one thing I haven’t seen anywhere else.

If you go into the Data menu you’ll see an option to “Manage Remote Data.” Selecting that brings you to a screen that looks like this:

    EditGrid

You can see in the first screenshot that I took above that I have the Google stock price inserted into the spreadsheet. That value is updated and retrieved every minute from the Internet by configuring the Remote Data Manager with the stock quote information. You can do more than just stock quotes as well. In fact, you can retrieve any data from a website but you’ll have to know how to use regular expressions.

If you’re looking for a powerful spreadsheet application that doesn’t require you to install software then EditGrid is a very nice solution. I’m sure you’ll be fond of the intuitive interface and the 500+ functions that they have available to use. It’s amazing how many features that you can bring to the online world which are typically unique only to desktop applications.

    Thanks for the tip Ed!
