OK, so a $3.2 billion acquisition is nothing to sneeze at! However, when your current stock price on the Nasdaq exchange is trading at $1148 per share, and your coffers are overflowing in excess of $57 billion in cash and marketable securities – $3.2 is more or less chump change. . .
Apple and the FTC have announced a settlement that parents who have been charged money for purchases made by children will appreciate. As a parent with a daughter that likes to play games on my iPhone, I know from experience how some of the apps don’t do a good job telling you what things cost real money in the games.
I really hate it when you see something in the game and it doesn’t say if it costs money or not and then when you click the item it pops up for your password. Once your password is entered, charges can be billed.
Some parents have reported thousands of dollars in charges to Apple that happen this way. The FTC settlement will see Apple pay at least $32.5 million to settle claims that it didn’t warn parents of potential charges.
The settlement will also see Apple changing its billing terms. The FTC took Apple to task over not warning parents that by entering their password to download an app, they were also opening a window that allowed in-app charges for 15 minutes.
“This settlement is a victory for consumers harmed by Apple’s unfair billing, and a signal to the business community: whether you’re doing business in the mobile arena or the mall down the street, fundamental consumer protections apply,” said FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez. “You cannot charge consumers for purchases they did not authorize.”

One can’t simply underestimate the popularity of memes on the internet. There are a plethora of websites that let people spends hours and hours scrolling through a wide variety of memes, which have been made by the people, for the people. They are often quite hilarious, which is primarily the reason why they’re so popular. You can now make memes on iPhone, on the fly, thanks to the new MemeGen app from Imgur. It’s pretty easy to catch reruns of “The Simpsons,” which in some TV markets air twice daily. But if you want to watch the show on the go, or watch a particular episode, you’re out of luck unless you buy it from your favorite app store.
That will change this summer when FX Networks begins streaming all 530(!) episodes of the long-running series via its FXNOW app, which delivers content from three networks: FX, FXX, and FXM. The app is currently available for iOS and Windows 8.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FXX Networks in November acquired the rights to “The Simpsons” in “one of the biggest deals of its kind.” The agreement allows the network to broadcast episodes from the show’s first 24 seasons.
The app itself is free, and presumably the “Simpsons” library will be as well. However, as with apps like HBO Go and Watch ABC, you need to be a paid subscriber to one of the six providers that currently support FXNOW: AT&T U-verse, Comcast Xfinity, Midcontinent Communications, Optimum, Suddenlink, or WOW!
The Hollywood Reporter also notes that the app will stream some 165 film titles along with all FX and FXX original series, including “The Americans,” “Justified,” “Louie,” and “The League.”

Google Glass might be a forerunner in the world of augmented reality glasses, but this has also sparked off an arms race, so to speak, when it comes to AR headsets that are in the market, or at least, about to hit the market.
