Last year, Japan’s Sagawa Electronics released a powered exoskeleton, the Powered Jacket MK3, with the potential to bring lots of our science fiction and anime fantasies to life. But somehow, being able to see the tiny and frail human at the center of the outsized metal skeleton just doesn’t seem imposing enough.

Fortunately, another Japanese company — Dai-Nihon Giken, manufacturer of lots of anime merchandise — has stepped in to fill that intimidation gap with armor designed to fit on the MK3 modeled on the Landmate power suits from Shirow Masamune’s 22nd century manga saga “Appleseed.”

iPad Smart Bezels Patent Filed

Apple has filed for a new patent related to iPad smart bezels. The idea is to transform the bezels on its tablet into areas that are capable of recognizing touch input, thus extending the range of functions and gestures available to users. This would certainly make the bezels much useful, though in the filing indicates that the tablets will have larger bezels. The iPads have had larger bezels in the part, but in recent models Apple has made them thinner. Either it would find a way to make this functionality work with significantly thinner bezels, or this is going to be one of those patented technologies that never see the light of day.

    Not too long ago it was rumored that Apple is working on a new mobile payments service that will facilitate the purchase of physical goods through millions of its mobile devices. It was also said that Apple executives have already met with several key players in the industry to discuss plans, concrete proof of its mobile payment service plans is yet to surface though. According to a new report by re/code, apparently eBay owned mobile payments juggernaut PayPal is interested in joining forces with Cupertino on this project.
