Being seen in public wearing Google Glass is a statement.
Some, though, see it as a statement that you are tone-deaf, socially blind, and congenitally self-righteous.
Casinos have banned it and one Seattle restaurant owner described Google Glass wearers as “man children stinkin’ up the joint.“
But now one joint has come to Glassholes’ rescue. As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, the Stanford Court, in San Francisco’s snooty Nob Hill, is welcoming Glass wearers.
Indeed, it’s not just opening its arms. It’s opening its pockets, by offering a free cocktail to anyone who DOES wear Glass in its Aurea Lounge.
Naturally, there’s an element of brown-nosing to the monied. A hotel spokesperson told the Chronicle: “The complimentary drink is geared toward the local tech crowd who own a pair, and might feel like an outcast or nuisance due to the recent string of negative press. [We] want them to feel at home.”

Apple is a company that does things without really explaining the need for their actions, despite the numerous criticisms that they have received in the past. After all, by addressing these complaints it just opens the door to even more questions and let’s face, you just can’t please everyone.
Interestingly enough after unveiling the 8GB iPhone 5c earlier today, Apple has since released a statement explaining why they decided to unveil a lower capacity iPhone. (more…)

If you’re a fan of Apple and you want to learn more about the company that usually plays with its cards close to the chest, you’re probably looking forward to Yukari Iwatani Kane’s “Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs”. The book is supposed to talk about how Apple has fared over the years after Steve Jobs’ passing in 2011.
There will always be critics about everything, whether it be about a book, a restaurant meal, a smartphone, and so on, but in this case it seems that Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook, is the most critical about Kane’s book, going as far as calling it “nonsense”. (more…)

GTA 5 was probably one of the biggest selling games of 2013, and rightfully so given that the franchise has managed to build up a pretty huge and loyal following over the years that it has been around.
However this time around, Rockstar did not mention anything about releasing GTA 5 for the PC, which is something they have typically done since the first GTA game. As it st ands Rockstar is still keeping mum on the topic of GTA 5 for the PC, but in the meantime it seems an email has been making its rounds which is basically a scam that gamers need to look out for. Buying meat is hard. Unless you’re a butcher or a chef, it can be difficult to tell what’s what. Does a Boston butt actually come from a cow’s butt? Where is the tenderloin? Smart graphic design can make it a little easier to answer these questions.

When the human heart is seriously physically damaged, modern medicine’s solution can seem a bit brutal: rip it out and put another one in.
Harvard researchers may have just come up with a more elegant approach. They’ve created a layer of heart cells that actually beats on its own and could one day be used as a patch to repair major heart defects.
The research, presented Tuesday at the 247th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), was conducted by Ali Khademhosseini and Nasim Annabi from the Harvard Medical School, along with a team from the University of Sydney in Australia led by Anthony Weiss.
In their previous research, the team had worked with gelatin-like substances called hydrogels that are made from proteins to mimic heart tissue. But the problem was that even though the researchers could make the hydrogels take on the properties of d… [Read more]

People with hemophilia, or those taking anticoagulants to help prevent dangerous outcomes such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or ischemic stroke, are unfortunately at a higher risk of bleeding easily. To better monitor these patients, health care professionals typically take blood coagulation tests in hospitals and clinics — which can be a real burden both financially and logistically.
But soon, thanks to startup Qloudlab, based in the microengineering lab in Switzerland’s EPFL tech university, these patients may be able to use the touch screens on their phones or other devices to test their blood coagulation, all in the comfort of their own homes — or wherever.
