Laser Goggles: Protection from Itself

The laser-crazy toymaker Patrick Priebe recently shared what he admits to be the dumbest thing he’s ever made: lasers mounted on a pair of goggles. There are actually two pairs of lasers on the goggles, with the lower-powered red beams used for aiming.

Patrick was inspired by Cyclops, but any X-Men fan will tell you that Scott’s optic blast is more of a sledgehammer than a laser beam – it won’t burn you, but it will push you through a mountain. On the other hand, anyone who’s a fan of life will tell you not to argue with a madman packing lasers and flamethrowers.

Facebook Messenger iOS Update Brings Groups, Forwarding And More

Facebook Messenger iOS Update Brings Groups, Forwarding And More

Facebook Messenger is the social network’s standalone app for people who prefer to chat with their friends and family through Facebook. While its possible to chat through the main Facebook app as well, Messenger aims to offer a much better experience. The Facebook Messenger for iOS has now been updated, and it comes with a couple of new features.

Users can now create chat groups within the app. They can essentially put together people that they want to message in a single thread and even assign them a name, such as “Family” or “Colleagues.” This feature keeps often contacted people all in one place, which makes it easier for the user to chat with them. Group photos can also be set, just to add a bit of color to the whole arrangement.

The app also includes a forwarding feature now. This allows users to send conversations or images to their Facebook contacts, even if those contacts weren’t a part of the original message thread. To forward, all users need to do is a simple tap, and its done. Other improvements have also been made to make the app faster and more reliable.

Facebook Messenger for iOS is available as a free download from the App Store.

Microsoft Makes Changes To Policy After Hotmail Snooping Criticism

It was recently revealed in a court filing that Microsoft had accessed a blogger’s Hotmail account as part of an investigation against an employee suspected of having leaked confidential Microsoft property. The blogger received a tip from a former Microsoft employee Alex Kibkalo, who shared pre-release Windows 8 RT source code, among other confidential items. Microsoft found out about the leak and accessed the blogger’s Hotmail account to see if Kibkalo’s emails were really there. While this landed Kibkalo into hot soup, Microsoft came under severe criticism for accessing a user’s communications without their knowledge.

BlackBerry Clinches Initial Win Against Typo Keyboard Case

The name BlackBerry and good news aren’t exactly synonymous these days, but there’s something to cheer about for the Canadian company.
