Reporters Without Borders (RSF) released its annual "Enemies of the Internet" index this week—a ranking first launched in 2006 intended to track countries that repress online speech, intimidate and arrest bloggers, and conduct surveillance of their citizens.Some countries have been mainstays on the annual index, while others have been able to work their way off the list.Two countries particularly deserving of praise in this area are Tunisia and Myanmar (Burma), both of which have stopped censoring the Internet in recent years and are headed in the right direction toward Internet freedom.

Google Does Away With Banner Ad ExperimentIt is safe to say that banner ads can be pretty intrusive, but unfortunately that is just one of the ways websites survive, through these banner ads. In fact Google had recently attempted at introducing gigantic banner ads of their own on their search results page.

As you can see in the image above, a Google search for “southwest airlines” will result in a giant Southwest Airlines banner splashed across the top of the page. Naturally this is great for advertisers who want to ensure they get the top view and pushing other results further down the page, but thankfully that experiment has come to an end. (more…)

    New Samsung S Band Revealed In Leaked Slides

    New Samsung S Band Revealed In Leaked SlidesBack in 2013 when Samsung announced the Galaxy S4, they also revealed that the handset would be getting a companion accessory in the form of the Samsung S Band. This is basically a health tracking band that acts like devices like the Jawbone UP, however the device never made it to the market and apparently Samsung has a newer model in the works.

    Thanks to the folks at SamMobile, they have managed to get their hands on several slides for the upcoming product that shows it off in all of its glory. Unlike the Gear Fit which was announced at MWC 2014, the S Band will not pack a display meaning that it acts purely as an accessory for collecting motion data. (more…)
