Sailfish OS For Nexus 4 Released

Sailfish OS For Nexus 4 Released

Jolla’s phone isn’t exactly easy to come by, so you probably might be having a hard time getting your hands on one to try out the Sailfish OS. Fret not, the folks at Jolla have now released Sailfish OS for Nexus 4. The official OS image is now available for download, the only caveat is that its compatible with the Nexus 4. It doesn’t support the Nexus 5 or any other Android device at this point in time, so you’ll need a Nexus 4 to try Sailfish OS.

These laser goggles let you live out your X-Men dreams

Many X-Men fans want to be Wolverine, but the cool kids know that Cyclops is the real star. How can you beat lasers for eyes? Patrick Priebe is most certainly aware, as he built a real-world set of laser-blasting goggles to emulate Cyclops’ optic…

Why Are Screens Better Than Real Life?

Why Are Screens Better Than Real Life?

I have three children, and left unsupervised, they will stare at screens until their eyeballs liquefy and seep into the carpet. And so, I spend every single day of my existence wringing my hands over how much screen time is too much screen time for these people. Sometimes I set a timer. Sometimes I say, "TIME IS UP" and go to take the screens away, and then my kids freak the fuck out, and I give them back the screens so they can put their stupid Minecraft characters to bed, which always takes two minutes longer than it should. And then I worry that I’m a simp because I gave into their screaming, but man, do I hate hearing them scream. Sometimes, when I’m tired, I just let it go, because it’s cold outside, and I’ve run out of board games to play and tedious craft projects to do. Every parent knows that a screen works flawlessly for subduing annoying kids.

HTC Aims To Capture 10 Percent Of The Global Smartphone Market

HTC Aims To Capture 10 Percent Of The Global Smartphone Market

Despite launching one of the most well received smartphone lineup last year, HTC didn’t particularly have a great time. It posted losses quarter after quarter as it came under increasing pressure from rivals. It has built up on whatever it was able to achieve last year and has now placed its fate into the hands of the 2014 flagship. Earlier this week the company launched its New HTC One M8, and in a bid to beat Samsung to the punch, it has released it before the Galaxy S5. Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, now hopes that the company will be able to capture 8-10 percent market share “in the long term.”

Blink and You'll Miss This 188 MPH RC Car

Blink and You'll Miss This 188 MPH RC Car

Last week Samvir Thandi blew our minds with a model rocket car that hit 285 mph. But it was basically just a rocket engine with wheels that you aimed—hopefully accurately—and fired. Nick Case’s remote control speed demons actually have electric motors, and his latest creation—quite possibly the world’s fastest RC car—just hit 188 mph.

‘Cast Screen’ Button Appears In Android Quick Settings For Some

Cast Screen Button Appears In Android Quick Settings For Some

It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see Chromecast creep deeper into Google’s mobile ecosystem. The $35 dongle instantly became a hit when it was released late last year, with Google selling “millions” of units in the U.S. alone. Earlier this week it finally released Chromecast in nearly a dozen international markets. Some Android users, who have newer Motorola or Nexus devices, report that a “Cast Screen” button is showing up in Quick Settings. It doesn’t do anything right now, but its possible that the feature is incomplete at this stage.

In most cases, users who have spotted this button are running Android 4.4 KitKat. Moreover, it seems to appear if certain Chromecast enabled apps are launched, such as AllCast. No one has been able to make sense of what it actually does, presumably its triggering an incomplete casting feature, but as of now this native screen casting feature hasn’t been made able to work.

It possible that further down the road Google might allow users to mirror their Android display to a TV through Chromecast. While there are solutions available to do that, nevertheless a universal casting trigger will eliminate the need for third party apps or standalone apps that beam local content to Chromecast. We’ll have to wait and see if and when this feature is completed.

The Cefaly Headband wants to get rid of your headaches

    Cefaly
If you have a headache brewing, it’s hard to think about anything else. The constant throb of your brain takes the forefront of any situation, making even the simplest tasks feel like climbing Mt. Everest. While you can take pain medication to reduce this annoyance, it’s not going to do you much good if you have frequent headaches and eventually become immune to the pills.

If you already know why you’re getting headaches, then you can try and find ways to treat yourself at home without having to traipse to the hospital on the regular. The Cefaly headband makes micro-impulses to stimulate the trigeminal nerve endings (this is normally where headaches start). You will need to have a medical prescription to purchase this $295 headband, but it is said that 71% of the users in a study said that their headaches were reduced after using this.

If you do end up getting a prescription and purchasing this, you’ll need to clean your forehead, apply the electrode, put on the headband, start it up, and adjust your intensity. Hopefully after a few of these 20 minute sessions you’ll be headache free. The electrodes are purchased separately, and a set of three will cost you around $25. These can be used up to 20 times, which isn’t terrible if the trade-off is no longer having to deal with headaches.
