In the 2000 AD comics, anyone who had the balls to disarm the brutal Judge Dredd and attempt to use his Lawgiver pistol against him would be left flailing, with the weapon smart enough to know when it wasn’t being wielded by the lawman. It’s a concept that’s now set to become a reality thanks to the Sentinl Identilock.
Though it got beat to the punch by arch-competitor LG, Samsung has just released its debut smart LED bulb, literally called the “Smart Bulb.” It looks nothing like the multi-tiered model we saw at the FCC, but retains the Bluetooth-only spec –…
While CEOs are there to help oversee the operations of a company, it’s nice to hear that sometimes they don’t mind getting their hands dirty by actually helping with the development of a product. Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs was notorious for being very hands-on, and it looks like HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, is equally involved.
In a recent interview with the folks at Engadget, it was revealed that Chou was integral in the design process of the company’s latest smartphone, the HTC One M8. With a background in product management, it’s easy to see why Chou had the know-how and the desire to involve himself in the phone’s creation process. (more…)

Is virtual reality set to become the next big thing in terms of entertainment? Or will it end up like 3D technology where it has been relegated to something of a novelty feature? Well if Facebook’s interest is any indication, it looks like virtual reality does appear to be poised to become the next big thing.
Now the Oculus Rift is definitely not the only virtual reality headset in the market at the moment and Sony has entered the fray themselves with Project Morpheus, a virtual reality headset of their own. Now if you were unable to attend GDC 2014 and were wondering what Project Morpheus is all about, Sony has since uploaded Project Morpheus’ entire GDC presentation. (more…)

MIT Researchers Develop New Encryption System That Is Allegedly More Secure
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen the Snowden reports were revealed to the public, many were understandably outraged. After all it seemed like what everyone thought about security was a lie, especially since the NSA had no problems getting into emails, messages, phones, equipment, and more.
In fact there were even reports on how the NSA paid encryption companies to make their software more vulnerable so that hacking in would be easier. Then there were also reports on how the NSA is in the process of developing a quantum computer that can supposedly break any encryption. (more…)

When it comes to emoticons, we don’t really give it much thought. After all they’re just meant to be cute representations of emotions and sometimes they’re just there to add a little bit of flavor when texting someone. However it seems that recently Apple has been facing pressure to add cultural diversity in its Emoji.
Back in 2012, Apple updated Emoji to add same-sex couples which basically shows where the Cupertino company stands when it comes to homosexuality. This was a step in the right direction but apparently some thought that the next step would be to add more cultural diversity, where as it stands most of the characters represented appear to be caucasian. Woman Gets 3D Printed Skull Implant
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve seen how 3D printing can be incredibly useful not just for making products or creating novelty items, but how it can also be used in the medical community. Back in 2013 we talked about how 3D printers have managed to 3D print skull implants and it seems that over in the Netherlands, one woman was the recipient of such an implant.
The operation took place about 3 months ago, but the Dutch News recently reported on how the operation was successful and how the woman has been going about her day perfectly fine with her 3D printed skull implant. The implant was printed by an Australian firm while the operation was conducted at the Utrecht University’s Medical Center in the Netherlands. (more…)

The Offline Glass from Mauricio Perussi on Vimeo.
With most of us being addicted to our phones, even when we’re out with friends we’re still constantly checking our messages, emails, social media, and so on, which kind of defeats the point of being at a social gathering to begin with, right? In fact it’s hard to imagine what we did back in the day when we didn’t have phones and tablets distracting us all the time!
Now bars are usually seen as places where people go to socialize over a few drinks and it seems that there has been a beer glass concept created by the Fischer and Friends ad agency in Brazil that aims to help us put our phones down and enjoy a drink with our friends. (more…)
