Facebook is sitting on boatloads of money and the company isn’t afraid to use some of that cash to buy up companies that have interesting tech. Such is the case with a new purchase that sees Facebook buying up Oculus VR, the company behind the slick Oculus Rift VR headset. The purchase reportedly cost Facebook $2 billion (USD).
Many people think the buyout is a bad thing because Facebook is Facebook, and also because selling off the company goes against the independent spirit of the company’s initial funding via Kickstarter. I think the buyout could be a good thing. Facebook certainly has the capital to help Oculus develop low cost VR headsets and other gear, and the reach to bring them to market. Perhaps the purchase will mean that a production rollout will come faster.
Facebook is also a place that many people go to play casual games, and harass others with invites to play games. I could see Facebook working with developers to get casual games on the social network using the Oculus VR device.

As the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 comes to a frustrating and unsuccessful close, the likelihood of locating the plane’s final resting place are astronomically small. However, where an international fleet of search vessels and scanning satellites have failed, this autonomous submarine from Bluefin Robotics could very well succeed.

When it comes to watches and interesting timepieces, there are many different models out there in the market for you to pick from. The thing is, which particular model would be the most suitable one for you? It really depends on a whole lot of factors, ranging from your budget to your personality as well as needs. One thing is for sure though, Casio, through the years, have always proved their G-SHOCK range of watches to be worthy of their calling, coming in a rugged form factor that is more than capable of handling their fair share of knocks, drops, and tumbles, and they continue to work. The Japanese company has recently unveiled a new collection of entirely modern watches that will feature an all-over coating of a classic tiger and woodland camouflage prints in order to match the rough-and-ready nature of the watches. Do expect this camo series by G-SHOCK to be introduced to the masses in two waves later this spring.
The first watch of the two that will appear would be the XL GDX6900CM, where it sports a multi-angle tiger camo printed case, band and dial, and will arrive in two colorways: tan and grey. There is an emphasis on superior performance and unrivaled functionality, where the GDX6900CM sports a 10-year battery and auto Super Illuminator LED light for high visibility under low-light conditions. In addition, other functions include a trio of multi-function alarms, 1/100th stopwatch, countdown timer, 12/24-hour time formats and 48-city world time. You will also be able to enjoy G-SHOCK’s legendary 200M water and shock resistant structure with this bad boy, where it has also achieved a shock resistance passing military standard, MIL-STD-810G.
As for the other timepiece, it would be the GD120CM, as it comes in a new formidable case design that has a 7-year battery while wearing a woodland camouflage multi-angle print. It has a large case size of 51.2mm, and yet carries the entire range of functionality as the GDX6900CM, where you can choose from red, tan and grey shades. The camouflage GDX6900CM men’s watches will retail for $150 a pop, while the camouflage GD120CM men’s watches will retail for $130 from next month onward.

Last year we saw a fabric oven mitt that looked just like Nintendo’s infamous Power Glove. Pete Hottelet is raising funds on Indiegogo for a very similar product. Also named the Power Mitt, Pete’s take is made of silicone rubber and thus should be more heat-resistant than the other mitt.
As you can see, Pete’s glove also has separate sheaths for each finger making it look more like the original Power Glove.
For now, Pete is only offering right-handed gloves for average-sized hands. He said that if he gets over 1,000 orders through the fundraiser he’ll get a mold for a larger glove, and if he gets over 1,500 orders he’ll make a left-handed glove.
To the privileged right-handed people with perfectly sized hands: let’s help our mutated brethren adorn their weird limbs with a power glove. Pledge at least $39 (USD) on Indiegogo to get a Power Mitt as a reward and combat handedness prejudice.
