Dance Required For Vending Machine To Dispense Ice Cream

Dance Required For Vending Machine To Dispense Ice CreamJapan is a country that has the highest number of vending machines per person, where such vending machines do sell just about anything that you can think of, from food to electronics and the like. Using them is a no-brainer – drop the correct amount of yen, make your selection, and voila! It is time to enjoy the fruit of your labors. Well, Seventeen Ice, a brand that set up its first ice cream vending machine in Japan three decades ago, intends to celebrate that momentous date by introducing a new vending machine that will dispense the ice cream of your choice each time you dance for it.

Yes, dance for your ice cream, and not take the lazy way out by dropping a few coins. It is somewhat similar to the Dance Dance Revolution arcade game, where you will have to move your body to any of the 17 choreographed videos that the machine holds in order to start licking on your hard earned ice cream. This special machine will be placed for one day only on April 26th at the Shibuya Shop Plaza in Tokyo.

This is definitely one of the stranger vending machines that we have come across, especially the mode of its dispensation. Others too, have interesting content within – such as marijuana.

FBI Adds Facial Recognition To Its Arsenal

FBI Adds Facial Recognition To Its ArsenalThe FBI certainly has their fair share of methods to track down people whom they deem to be worth tracking, either for security reasons or reasons that are known to them alone. In fact, the FBI has plans to amass up to 52 million photos in its NGI Face Recognition Database by 2015 – which is a scary thought, since that would make up one sixths of the U.S. population already. Give them another five years, and perhaps the entire nation will be part of their Face Recognition database.

While the FBI’s massive biometric database might contain records on as many as one third of the U.S. population, it is the facial recognition aspect of this database which raises questions of privacy at the ilk. FBI’s legacy fingerprint database is certainly augmented with other kinds of biometric data, ranging from palm prints and iris scans. All of these data will be linked to personal and biographic data like one’ name, home address, ID number, immigration status, age, and race, among others.

The database has the ability to process 55,000 direct photo enrollments each day, in addition to conducting tens of thousands of searches every single day. Do bear in mind that non-criminal face images too, will be mixed alongside criminal face images in this database. Basically, as long as you apply for a job that requires fingerprinting or a background check, you can be sure that your prints will be sent to and stored by the FBI in its civil print database, in addition your face print and fingerprints, too, will now be “harvested”.

OSIRIS-REx Wants to Lasso an Asteroid to Explain Life on Earth

NASA has a plan to better explore how our own local star system, and life within it, got started. It wants to intercept, study, and sample a passing asteroid. The only thing more impressive than this mission’s astronomical level of precision is how the space agency somehow shoehorned "Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer" into a functional acronym.

Turkey And Twitter Have Not Arrived At Any Tax Deal Yet

Turkey And Twitter Have Not Arrived At Any Tax Deal YetTurkey and Twitter has had a roller coaster relationship in the past month, with the government there laying the banhammer on Twitter, before it was asked to unblock the service. What is the latest development on the situation? Twitter will apparently close some accounts in Turkey, and they will not set up an office there at the moment despite the government wishing otherwise, at least according to a senior Turkish official after they conducted talks that concerned a dispute which saw the Turkish government ban Twitter for a fortnight.

Twitter was not the only victim to fall under Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s government last month, as YouTube too, was in the same boat as Twitter. That move drew international condemnation, and it was 11 days ago that the Twitter block was lifted, although YouTube remains blocked in that part of the world. Several accounts that Turkey was not too happy with will be closed, and it remains to be seen whether Twitter would open an office tehre, or fork out money for Turkish tax, which happens to be two main requests from the Turkish government.

The Turkish government official shared, “The two sides understood each other fully after the presentations, and a decision was made to establish a system for cooperation in the future. Some accounts will be closed. At this stage Twitter will not immediately establish a company but the necessary communication will be established via lawyers in Istanbul.”

Amazon Smartphone Spotted

Amazon Smartphone SpottedBGR has apparently gotten hold of the recently talked about Amazon smartphone, which is no mean feat actually. The Amazon smartphone has been a development in progress for a number of years already, so it is really interesting to see it finally come to fruition – making this the first of several own-brand smartphones. From afar, this flagship smartphone looks like a generic touchscreen handset template, but there will be two major focuses on this device – Amazon products and services, as well as a custom 3D interface.

Do bear in mind that what you see above happens to be a prototype device, where it comes in a protective shell that is meant to prevent people without the proper authorization from checking out the physical design of the handset. Other areas of the photos, too, have been blocked out or obscured for security purposes.

The first Amazon smartphone will allegedly run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, where it will be accompanied by the likes of 2GB RAM, powered by a customized version of Google’s Android operating system. This means if you have given Amazon’s tablets a go before, it will be somewhat similar in nature, too. With 720p HD resolution for the alleged 4.7″ display, this would not be able to compete with the high end devices from other manufacturers. Other than that, the main camera at the back is said to feature a 13MP shooter, while there is also a front-facing camera of unknown resolution count. So far, there has been no name attached to this prototype – anyone wants to warrant a guess?
