Last month we picked up a post from an often reliable Chinese forum source who claimed that Apple is working on a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air. The notebook is reportedly going to be ultra slim partly because it won’t have a fan, and is expected to have a high resolution display apart from a buttonless trackpad. This has been reiterated once again, and now we’re also hearing about the possibility of a low cost iMac.
The predictions come from famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who reiterates most of what we heard about 12-inch Retina MacBook Air last month. Kuo was actually the first to predict a 12-inch MacBook Air late last year. It is said to “redefine notebook user experience.” Its unclear what would become of the existing models, which haven’t been refreshed with Retina displays so far.
Not much is known about the low cost iMac for now. Kuo just says that its coming later this year, and that it will help Apple compete with the likes of HP and Lenovo particularly in markets across Asia. Technical specifications aren’t available at this point in time, and it is also not known what cuts Apple might make to keep the cost down.
Both HP and Lenovo released a new crop of All-in-One desktop PCs this year, the new models were first unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas back in January.

There has already been a lot of speculation about the 2014 Apple TV set-top box. The expectation now is that Amazon’s Fire TV is likely to compel Apple to retaliate, and finally release a much needed revamped set-top box. We have already read a great deal about the features it may offer. A research note from one well known Apple analyst claims that the next set-top box will rely heavily on motion control technology, eliminating the need for the user to interact with the set-top box through a remote.

‘Selfie’ Gets Body Image Warning
Posted in: Today's ChiliI am quite sure that at one point or another in your life, you would have most probably snapped a photo of yourself, where it is otherwise known as a selfie, getting into trouble every now and then. Now, selfies are fine and dandy when it is just you, but try not to ruffle feathers by posing with your country’s leader next to you. Researchers at the University of Strathclyde, Ohio University and University of Iowa surveyed 881 female college students in the US, where the ladies were asked to answer some questions concerning their Facebook usage pattern, exercise as well as eating regimes, and one’s body image. Basically, the research suggests that if you spend plenty of time on Facebook to ogle and your friends’ photos, it has a high tendency of letting the ladies feel insecure about how they look like in the eyes of others.

Comcast Wi-Fi Phone Service Rumored
Posted in: Today's ChiliComcast may be looking to establish itself as a wireless carrier, if word on the street is to be believed. Apparently the company is in early stages of building a wireless service that would mainly use Wi-Fi network to function. In this case the service would be quite similar to Republic Wireless, which already offers a Wi-Fi / cellular hybrid service in the U.S.
A report from The Information claims that Comcast is going to use Wi-Fi from public hotspots and wireless routes to hands most of its services. In areas where Wi-Fi coverage is available, the service would tap into it. But if Wi-Fi coverage is unavailable, the service will automatically switch to spectrum that may be leased from large carriers such as Verizon or AT&T.
Republic Wireless already uses this method, which allows it to price plans as low as $5 per month, plus it has been around long enough to work out the kinks in Wi-Fi to cell handoff. Comcast will need to battle with these challenges initially should it launch a wireless phone service. Comcast doesn’t necessarily have to pit itself against major U.S. carriers to make it in this business.
Its retail locations and customer service centers already provide it with a nationwide presence, the company can lean on these resources if it launches a wireless phone service. Though it may be a tricky time for Comcast to pursue this, given that it has its hands full with the Time Warner Cable acquisition bid.
