That Beeping Sound You Hear Is The Future

Nokia X Custom Android ROM Revealed

Nokia X Custom Android ROM RevealedWhen the Nokia X was announced at the end of February this year, many people were surprised to find out that this happens to be the first Android-powered device from Nokia, who have stood by Windows Phone staunchly before that. While it is not exactly a true blue Android-powered device as it runs on a forked version of the mobile platform, this does not mean that the Nokia X would not be on the receiving end of a custom Android firmware. Sure, the stock Nokia X is unable to support Google’s mobile services like the Play Store or Hangouts, but at least one can now enjoy the benefits of a custom ROM for some spice in life.

Senior XDA developer dhacker29 happens to be the one behind this custom Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ROM for the Nokia X, where the firmware relies on source code from Code Aurora that comprises of vanilla Android, in addition to the rest of the specific enhancements and optimizations for Qualcomm’s chipset that is already present in the smartphone itself.

The existing build is stable enough for normal, everyday use, with stuff such as network connectivity, camera, FM radio, GPS and location services running without a hitch. Do bear in mind though that certain navigation issues were discovered, which is no surprise considering how the Nokia X has just one hardware button. Good to know that a second version of this custom Android ROM has on-screen navigation buttons.

ALYT Smart Home Manager Debuts

ALYT Smart Home Manager DebutsNow here is an Indiegogo project that you might want to look into – the ALYT Smart Home Manager, where it requires $100,000 in funds in order to deliver a cutting edge Android-powered platform to the masses. ALYT stands for Affordably Link Your Things, where it is a unique do-it-yourself (DIY), open source, Smart Home Manager that runs on the Android environment. WIth ALYT, one is able to manage home security systems, energy usage, entertainment systems, and home automation through an Android-powered smartphone or tablet.

This does seem to usher in an era where a smart home no longer seems to be out of reach, and the worlds of science fiction and reality meet. Consumers will find that this wireless device has its fair share of advantages, where among them include exceptional affordability (relatively speaking) when it comes to high tech home security, seamless operations and video verification during power or communications failures, exceptional connectivity via Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, ZigBee, 3.5G Cellular, Infrared and DLNA, and an easy setup procedure that does not take more than mere minutes.

Should the ALYT project raise enough funds, you can look forward to it shipping later this Fall. I suppose when we have smartphones with transparent displays ala Tony Stark’s LG device in the Iron Man movies, it would look cooler when manipulating devices like the ALYT.

Diablo 3 Nephalem Rifts Cleared In Under 4 Minutes

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls went live at the business tail end of last month, and you can be sure that fans of the video game franchise have taken to it with aplomb. Obviously, us humans have this innate need to strive to be the very best, and such a trait also shows up in the world of video games. In Reaper of Souls, gamers were treated to huge, randomized dungeons that are known as the Nephalem Rifts, and you won’t find these to be a Shangri-La for sure. A run in one of those dungeons would normally take more than 10 minutes, give or take, depending on the difficulty level. Check out the video above that shows off a Korean gamer who managed to complete a relatively large dungeon in less than 4 minutes, and on Torment difficulty to boot.
